Police bust ketum syndicates in Selangor, KL, and Penang, arrest 14 suspects in coordinated raids
Twelve suspects were arrested in Selangor and Kuala Lumpur following two raids on April 24 and May 6, conducted by the General Operations Force (GOF) Central Brigade as part of 'Op Taring Mitra'.
In a statement yesterday, Central Brigade commander SAC Hakemal Hawari confirmed that authorities seized ketum leaves, processed ketum water, equipment for processing and several vehicles, with a total estimated value of RM657,400.
In a separate raid in Penang, two 23-year-old men were arrested today at a house in Batu Maung, where police recovered 85 kilograms of ketum leaves and 1,500 packets of ketum water worth RM9,300.
According to Barat Daya police chief ACP Sazalee Adam, the suspects had been renting the property for six months to produce and sell the ketum water at RM5 per packet.
Both suspects are being remanded and the case is being investigated under Section 30(3) of the Poisons Act 1952, he said. — Bernama

Meanwhile, the hardware store owner Pang Chin Tian, 59, who went viral over the weekend for allegedly flying the national flag upside down, said he is ready to face any legal consequences. Pang admitted the mistake was unintentional and took full responsibility for the incident, which occurred last Saturday. He vowed to be more careful in the future when displaying the national flag. 'It was not intentional. I admit it was my fault. At the time, the flag hadn't been fully installed yet. Once we realised the mistake, we corrected it immediately. Unfortunately, the viral video only showed part of the incident,' he said. Police arrested Pang last Saturday and released him on bail after recording his statement on Sunday. KL cop rejects claims of beating, forced confessions in Palestinian kidnap trial
KUALA LUMPUR, Aug 12 — A police officer denied in the High Court here today that two suspects in a Palestinian man's kidnapping case were severely beaten by police, resulting in serious injuries such as a torn tongue during their arrest at a chalet in Hulu Langat three years ago. ASP Mohamad Jazlan Sharif, 42, currently attached to the Intelligence and Operations Division of the Dang Wangi police headquarters Criminal Investigation Department, testified under cross-examination by defence lawyer Norma Goh Kim Lian. The eight accused in the case are Tengku Arif Bongsu Tengku Hamid, 44; Mohamad Naziree Mustapha, 44; Faizull Hardey Mohd Isa, 45; Muhammad Iqmal Abdul Rahis, 30; Mohd Zaidi Mohd Zain, 59; Nidarahayu Zainal, 39; Raibafie Amdan, 44; and Edy Ko'im Said, 45. Goh: I state to you that during the time in room 110, the fifth and sixth accused, Mohamad Naziree and Faizull Hardey, were severely beaten by your team, sustaining serious injuries, including a torn tongue and bodily injuries. They were beaten and forced to confess involvement in the kidnapping, which they denied. Do you agree? Mohamad Jazlan: I do not agree. Cops deny NFA in probe into alleged child molest case

(Facebook pic) KUALA LUMPUR : Police have denied shelving their investigation into a foreign worker who allegedly molested a nine-year-old girl at a convenience store in Kajang in February. Kajang police chief Naazron Abdul Yusof denied the case had been classified as requiring no further action (NFA), saying investigations were ongoing under the Sexual Offences Against Children Act for physical sexual assault on a child. 'Action is being taken to complete our investigations,' he told FMT. Last Friday, Naazron said the police were seeking witnesses to assist in their investigation into the case. He said a police report was lodged on March 12 by the victim's father, claiming his daughter was molested on Feb 27. He said the victim had only revealed the incident to her family on March 11. Earlier today, Bersatu's Wan Ahmad Fayhsal Wan Ahmad Kamal said the child's father had informed him that the police had classified the child molest case as NFA. At a press conference in Parliament, the Machang MP also said the father is set to be charged for spreading a video of himself confronting the foreign worker and the owner of the shop he worked at. He claimed the video clearly showed the foreigner admitting to sexually assaulting the girl. Wan Fayhsal, a Bersatu Supreme Council member, said the opposition will provide the father with a lawyer to fight his charges in court and to seek justice for his daughter. When asked if it's true the father will be charged, Naazron simply said: 'Investigations are ongoing.'
