Iowa basketball star following teammate to transfer portal destination
Former Iowa basketball standout Josh Dix announced his next destination on Friday morning.
Dix is heading to Creighton where he will reunite with former Iowa basketball forward Owen Freeman who announced his commitment to the Bluejays at the end of last month.
A 6-foot-6, 210 pound guard, Dix averaged 14.4 points, 3.2 rebounds and 2.8 assists per game while shooting 50.7% from the field, 42.2% from 3-point range and 76.6% from the free throw line. Dix scored in double figures in 27 of the 32 games in which he played and started last season.
That includes six performances of 20-plus points and 20 games where Dix connected on two or more 3-pointers. According to On3's transfer portal rankings, Dix is the No. 7 player nationally and the No. 2 shooting guard.
With his announcement, Dix became the fourth former Hawkeye to announce his new transfer portal landing spot. Freeman was the first to reveal he's headed to Creighton, forward Riley Mulvey announced to Siena, guard Brock Harding revealed a TCU transfer.
Forward Pryce Sandfort also announced on Friday his commitment to Nebraska.

Scherzer, Springer lead Blue Jays to 7-3 win over Pirates
PITTSBURGH (AP) — Max Scherzer pitched six strong innings to notch his 220th career win, and George Springer hit an early two-run home run as the Toronto Blue Jays defeated the Pittsburgh Pirates 7-3 on Tuesday night. Scherzer (4-2) allowed one run and four hits with four strikeouts and three walks. The 18-year veteran has pitched at least six innings in five consecutive starts. The Blue Jays (74-53) built a 5-0 lead against Mitch Keller in the first two innings. Springer hit a 423-foot shot to center field for his 20th homer of the season in the second inning. Keller (5-12) was tagged for five runs in 3 1/3 innings after giving up six runs in four innings in a loss at National League-leading Milwaukee in his previous start last Wednesday. The Pirates lost for the eighth time in 10 games as they fell deeper into the NL Central basement. Blue Jays All-Star first baseman Vladimir Guerrero Jr. sat out because of tightness in his left hamstring. An MRI performed earlier Tuesday revealed no damage. ESPN's Football Power Index gives Spartans slim chances of reaching bowl
The computers and numbers behind ESPN's Football Power Index (FPI) are not high on the Spartans reaching a bowl game this season. While the Spartans' win total over/under is set at 5.5 (with some sports book juicing it to the over), the FPI rating system is giving Michigan State a less than 50-50 chance of reaching a bowl game this fall. According to a post from The Big Ten Huddle, the Spartans are given only a 31% chance to reach six wins to become bowl eligible. Among Big Ten teams, only Northwestern and Purdue have lower odds from FPI to reach a bowl game this season. Northwestern comes in at 27.8%, while Purdue is listed at a near impossible 1.8%. Michigan State is the only team from the Big Ten to not reach the postseason at least once in the last three years. The Spartans finished last season with a 5-7 record in year one under head coach Jonathan Smith, and are expecting a better record this upcoming season. The Spartans officially kick off the 2025 season on August 29 against Western Michigan. Kickoff from Spartan Stadium is scheduled for 7 p.m. ET, with the game set to be televised on FS1.
