Is Italy vs Ireland on TV? Kick-off time, team news, channel and how to watch Six Nations clash

Independent14-03-2025

Ireland know a win is a must if they are to preserve they faint Six Nations title hopes as they take on Italy on Super Saturday.
The grand slam dreams were dashed by a drubbing at the hands of France in the penultimate round to leave Les Bleus in control of their own destiny as they prepare to take on Scotland in the championship denouement.
Ireland's hopes of an historic third straight title require a French slip-up in Paris and England failing to take a full five points against Wales.
All Simon Easterby's side can do, though, is put the pressure on by beating an Italian team that have struggled defensively in their last two outings.
Here's everything you need to know.

Sir Chris Hoy candidly opens up on ‘death sentence' cancer diagnosis and vows to prove ‘life goes on'

SIR CHRIS HOY vowed to prove "life goes on" for cancer sufferers before his return to race car driving. The British Olympic legend revealed last October that he'd been diagnosed with stage four prostate cancer the previous year. 4 4 4 The six-time gold medallist's diagnosis was a terminal one and doctors gave the Scot between two to four years to live. Hoy, 49, is determined to live every day to its fullest, so much so that he decided to give race car driving a go again. The Scot took part in the Dark Horse Stars class of the Mustang Challenge, which is on the bill of the famous Le Mans 24, this weekend. And Hoy, who raced in the full Le Mans in 2016, hopes him living out his final days doing what he loves will inspire other cancer sufferers to do the same. He told TNT Sports: "I was diagnosed with stage 4 cancer almost two years ago now, and it shocked me, it rocked my world. "It changed everything in one sentence, you're told that's not curable, but it's treatable. "So suddenly, you have this death sentence, and it's terrifying, but I'm here to show that life goes on for many people in that situation." After completing the race, a delighted Hoy took to Instagram to write: "What a few days at LeMans. 4 "After my cancer diagnosis 20 months ago I never imagined I'd be back racing here again, so when the opportunity arose courtesy of Ford performance and Jay Ward to take part in the Mustang Challenge Invitational I grabbed it with both hands. "The circuit de la sarthe is a special place and the magic never fades, it really is a privilege to drive on this historic track. Fans 'in floods of tears' as Sir Chris Hoy gives rousing speech at BBC SPOTY despite brave cancer battle "As my team mate for the week, Chris Harris said, you never turn down the chance to drive at LeMans. "Speaking of Chris Harris, it was a blast to hang out, talk cars and learn from him. "What a job he did in Race 2, P12 from 31st on the grid, making 11 places in lap one amidst the carnage and bringing the Tour de 4 liveried #77 home in style! "I managed P20 from the same grid position in race 1, very happy to have had some awesome battles throughout the 45-minute race and get a proper hit out after frustrations in qualifying. I was diagnosed with stage 4 cancer almost two years ago now, and it shocked me, it rocked my world." Sir Chris Hoy "Massive thanks to Academy Motorsport team for all their hard work and support, what a great bunch they are. "And finally, best of luck to all the drivers in the 24 heures du mans, I wish you a safe and successful race." Hoy will attempt to raise £1million for UK cancer charities with a charity bike ride in September. He said: "The bike ride is to try and get as many people together as possible. "Not just people suffering with cancer but anybody. "To show we can keep on living, make the most of every day and live in the present, because that's all any of us have."

Russell savours 'special' Premiership title win

Finn Russell says winning a first Gallagher Premiership title is "special" and "has not sunk in" as the fly-half guided Bath to victory against Leicester Scotland international kicked 13 points and intercepted a pass before setting up Max Ojomoh to score Bath's crucial second try in the 23-21 it was Bath's third trophy of the season, having won the Premiership Rugby Cup and Challenge Cup, it was the club's first league title since 1996 and Russell's first since claiming the Pro 12 with Glasgow Warriors in 2015."It's not sunk in yet," Russell told BBC Radio 5 Live. "Winning the Challenge Cup was brilliant but at the start of the year the goal was to win the Premiership. It's 10 years since I won it at Glasgow in my second season there, and now I've won it here in my second season. "It's special. This group, the city, the club deserves it. The work we've put in over the last few years, more years than I've been here, and then what we do on the pitch is try to represent the city as best we can."After last year's defeat [against Northampton], we bounced back really quickly and we managed to get the job done."Russell, who will now tour with the British and Irish Lions, has been a key figure in a dominant season for Allianz Stadium, Twickenham, the 32-year-old was influential again, none more so than when he picked off Handre Pollard's pass to race towards the line, before flinging the ball inside for Ojomoh to finish under the why he gave that pass rather than score himself, Russell said: "He's a kid from Bath that grew up watching his dad [Steve] lifting this trophy. Giving him a little bit of limelight in the final was nice."Russell says he will enjoy "a couple of quiet ones" to celebrate and was filmed giving his boots to a bath fan in the Twickenham stands after the game.

Truth behind Donald Trump rumour as US President tipped to drive McLaren F1 car

Donald Trump will not be driving a Formula 1 car next week, can confirm. That was the fanciful claim made during a live broadcast from the Canadian Grand Prix on French television this weekend, sparking widespread confusion online. Of course, it sounds like an entirely ridiculous rumour, despite Trump being acquainted with McLaren chief executive Zak Brown. And a McLaren spokesperson has confirmed as much, telling when we approached the team for comment: "Not true, he won't be driving our car." The claim was reported on French television channel Canal+ during their live coverage of practice in Montreal. And, naturally, the rumour made its way onto social media where it began to get some traction. The claim was that Trump might be set to get the chance to drive an F1 car at the Circuit of the Americas in Texas. It was not specified which car it would have been, other than that it was said to be a McLaren, which would surely have to be specially modified to fit the US President. The fanciful rumour was perhaps made more believable by the specific mention of McLaren. Trump was hosted by the team at the 2024 Miami Grand Prix and is said to have a personal relationship with the team's American chief executive Zak Brown. ---
