Jay Kelly FIRST LOOK: George Clooney stars as Hollywood actor who 'always plays himself' in new Netflix comedy - days after the Oscar winner furiously hit back at claims he lacked versatility
In the first trailer for the film the Oscar winner, 64, is seen questioning his life choices, despite being fawned over by fans and staff.
On a trip to an Italian film festival in his honour, joined by his manager played by Adam Sandler, he's hailed as the 'hero of cinema' before being brutally asked about always playing himself.
To which he snaps back: 'You know how difficult it is to be yourself? You try it'.
George's character is seen continually reminding himself that he is 'Jay Kelly' as he and his pal embark on a whirlwind trip through Europe as it appears the glamour of showbiz has lost its appeal.
The star-studded cast also features fellow Oscar winners Laura Dern, Jim Broadbent as well as Isla Fisher, Billy Crudup and Barbie director Greta Gerwig.
The movie is directed by Greta's husband and fellow Barbie scribe Noah Baumbach, who wrote the script alongside British actress Emily Mortimer.
The offical synopsis reads: 'Two middle-aged friends rediscover their youthful spirit during a chaotic weekend reunion, facing hilarious mishaps and heartfelt moments that force them to finally grow up'.
The actor has had an illustrious career spanning 40 years, in which he's bagged an Academy Award for his role in Syriana in addition to a wealth of other accolades.
But earlier this week during a recent interview with Variety, the Ocean's 11 star was asked about the doubts about his range as an actor, with George furiously snapping back: 'Do people say that I only play myself? I don't give a sh*t.'
He went on: 'There aren't that many guys in my age group that are allowed to do both broad comedies like O Brother [Where Art Though?] and then do Michael Clayton or Syriana. So if that means I'm playing myself all the time, I don't give a sh*t.'
Echoing a quote from his character in upcoming project Jay Kelly, he added: Have you ever tried playing yourself? It's hard to do.'
The Hollywood hunk continued: 'I've been the beneficiary of having my career not be massively successful in lots of different directions. I didn't really get successful, in the kind of success that can be blinding, until I was 33 years old [when ER began]. I'd been working for 12 years at that point. I had a real understanding of how fleeting all of it is and how little it has to do with you, quite honestly.'
It comes after back in March, George quietly revealed the real reason he has quit starring in romantic comedies for good.
The film star used to be one of the most sought after romantic comedy stars, but in recent years he has largely stepped away from the once-popular genre.
George opened up about his changing career in an interview with 60 Minutes that that focused on his Broadway debut in Good Night, And Good Luck, a play adapted from the Oscar-nominated 2005 film that he directed, co-wrote and co-starred in.
According to the A-list star, he has simply aged into a new phase of his career that doesn't align with most youth-focused rom-coms.
'Look, I'm 63 years old, I'm not trying to compete with 25-year-old leading men,' he admitted.
'That's not my job,' he continued, before declaring, 'I'm not doing romantic films anymore.'
Part of what has made Clooney so popular — which often translates to box-office success — is that he's charming enough to make non-romantic comedies feel as if they are rom-coms.
Although his blockbuster heist comedy thriller Ocean's 11 isn't a traditional romantic comedy, the tension and humor that he brought to it with his costar Julia Roberts made every scene that they shared feel like a rom-com.
One of George's most acclaimed films in the genre was an earlier collaboration with his Ocean's series director Steven Soderbergh on Out Of Sight.
Even though that film had elements of a crime comedy and a thriller, his burgeoning on-screen romance with Jennifer Lopez comfortably sits with the best romantic comedies.
George also worked with the Coen brothers on the screwball comedy Intolerable Cruelty with costar Catherine Zeta-Jones, but his Cary Grant–like charm and screen presence means that even some of his more traditional romantic dramas get just enough comedy to feel like rom-coms.
His last official rom-com to date was the 2022 box-office success Ticket To Paradise, which grossed nearly $169 million against a $60 million budget.
He and Julia Roberts reunited for the film, in which they play divorced parents who team up to put a stop to their daughter's destination wedding in Bali.
Clooney also notes in his 60 Minutes interview that his life has changed in other ways, as he's now a married man with children, rather than one of Hollywood's most eligible bachelors, as he was at the height of his commercial potential.

Sault review – GCSE-level drama performance borders on the pretentious
It's no surprise that Sault's All Points East performance is their first UK festival slot ever. An elaborate storyline, conveyed through GCSE-level acting and colossal set design, lands on the deaf ears of an audience who came to listen, not watch. External factors cause a rocky start. Their set time is changed at the last minute to 5pm, clashing with every other stage. As crowds reluctantly drag themselves to the East Stage, they wait until 6pm for anything to happen: a full hour of inactivity. Worse, Cleo Sol, Chronixx and Sault are billed as Providence, meant to perform until 11pm, holding audiences hostage without set times, clarity, or other stages to go to. A towering pyramid looms in the crowd, visually impressive but obscuring the main stage for many. Then an equivocal drama performance begins. As a collective, Sault revel in mystery: aside from Cleo Sol and Inflo, its members are anonymous. But the actors' dialogue is inaudible, and the audience grows restless. Finally, a traditional African choir opens before the collective launches into Glory and Free. The aesthetic – simultaneously Star Wars Tatooine futuristic and biblically ancient – looks polished, and fits with Sault's knack for blending classical and contemporary genres in their music. Standout moments include Warrior, with Chronixx joining on stage, Son Shine and Wildfires, perfect for London summer evenings. Yasiin Bey (formerly Mos Def) also delivers a seamless guest verse on Stop Dem. For the rest of the show, the dancers appear to be the focus, but the visual impact is impaired by the massive pyramid. Hits like Masterpiece are diminished. Pray for Me and SOTH feel overly artistic, bordering on pretentious. Theatrics might work in an intimate venue, but for the festival crowd, the inaccessible themes feel alienating. After another awkward drama piece, Chronixx brings the evening back with a captivating reggae set. But things unravel when Bey returns for a surprise 30-minute set, spinning like a whirling dervish while questioning societal progress in his freestyles. Neighbours gently explain, 'This guy sang Ms Fat Booty.' When Cleo Sol finally appears at 10pm, she thanks the crowd 'for your patience'. Real name Cleopatra Nikolic, she looks pharaonic atop the pyramid with an ethereal voice, but by then, the crowd has thinned significantly. Spellbinding singing can't save Sault. The interstitial skits occupy nearly as much time as the performance, and the audience members strain to wrap their heads around something they shouldn't have to understand.

Rochelle Humes sizzles in a pink bikini as she enjoys a family holiday in Marbella after being dragged into Myleene Klass and Frankie Bridge feud
Rochelle Humes showed off her incredible figure in a pink bikini as she posed for sizzling Instagram snaps during sun-soaked family holiday in Marbella on Sunday. The former Saturdays singer, 36, looked amazing in the triangle top which she teamed with a matching wrap skirt. Rochelle, who has recently been dragged into Myleene Klass and Frankie Bridge feud, shielded from the sun under a £480 Miu Miu hat and a pair of sunglasses. Leaving her dark tresses loose, the This Morning presenter beamed as she posed on a balcony. The star later slipped into a pink strapless bikini which she paired with a colourful shirt and matching trousers. She is currently on holiday with husband Marvin Humes, 40, and their three children - Alaia Mai, Valentina and Blake. It comes as it was revealed that Rochelle gave Mylenne's 'cheating' ex-husband a place to stay following their bitter breakup, it has been claimed. Radio presenter Myleene, 47, hit the headlines after accusing her former husband Graham Quinn of cheating on her with another celebrity, who she has refused to name, shortly before their 2011 wedding. Now it's been claimed Saturdays singer Rochelle lent a helping hand to Graham following the breakdown of his marriage to Mylenne. The Sun reports the former Hear'Say singer believed Rochelle and her husband Marvin had 'taken his side' in the split as a result. A source told the publication: 'Rochelle was doing what she saw as looking out for a friend in a time of need. 'Rochelle and Marvin are still clearly very much friends with Graham. 'Myleene is of the view that Rochelle took sides from the beginning of her marriage breakdown.' The insider added that Rochelle and Mylenne 'do everything in their power' to avoid each other amid their rift. Radio presenter Myleene, 47, hit the headlines after accusing her former husband Graham Quinn of cheating on her with another celebrity, who she has refused to name, shortly before their 2011 wedding Daily Mail has contacted reps for Rochelle and Mylenne for comment. Rochelle's spokesperson declined to respond. Graham was a tour manager for JLS and was recently snapped in Ibiza with Rochelle and Marvin. Myleene first started going out with her Irish bodyguard in 2001 and they were together for 12 years until they announced their split in 2013. She said she walked in on the moment ex Graham and the woman were taking each other's clothes off on the balcony of her home. Refusing to name the woman, Myleene hinted that the person in question has built a career off a 'family brand' and clarified that it was before they had got married. As mystery continues to swirl around the celebrity in question, Myleene declared she doesn't regret her honesty in the interview. Graham's inner circle hit back at the shock claims and told Daily Mail's Grant Tucker that the former Hear'Say bodyguard, who shares daughters Ava, 17, and Hero, 13, with Myleene was 'not going to dignify these fantasies with a response'. They also believe it was 'vindictive and calculated' of the singer to launch the bombshell on what she would have known was the week of Graham's 51st birthday. Despite the drama, Myleene flashed her gorgeous smile as she made her way through Leicester Square, London on Sunday. The TV personality put on a leggy display in a beige dress which she tied a black scarf around her waist and a Moschino belt. Meanwhile, Mylenne is also said to have fallen out with Frankie Bridge. Mylenne, Rochelle and Frankie all used to hang out together, with Loose Women hosts Myleene and Frankie attending Rochelle's hen do in 2012. Yet the following year, Myleene is said to have believed she was being 'blanked' by Frankie and confronted her at the 2013 Glamour Women of the Year awards - which is when the pair requested not to work together. However, due to a staff shortage around Christmas last year, Myleene and Frankie ended up on the same Loose Women panel - resulting in an 'awkward' episode with 'minimal interaction'. This week Myleene hinted at more revelations as she issued cryptic warning to those that 'have reason to' be afraid, after she made her explosive claims about her ex. After opening up about the scandal in an interview for Paul Brunson's We Need To Talk podcast, Myleene took to Instagram Stories to state she has 'receipts,' and 'won't keep her mouth shut.' The post also included a snap of her MBE, after receiving the honour for her services to women's health, miscarriage awareness and charity last month. While Myleene used the post to reflect on her recent achievements, she also declared she's 'finally found her voice' after opening up about her cheating ordeal. Due to a staff shortage around Christmas last year, Myleene and Frankie ended up on the same Loose Women panel - resulting in an 'awkward' episode with 'minimal interaction' She wrote: 'Wow. What a week it's been! Firstly, thank you. I have quite literally tens of thousands of messages of love and support for me and my family. I took a long time to learn there's strength in vulnerability. 'In a varied week where my interview with @paulcbrunson and @needtotalk went viral and reached the people who needed to hear it, where I was part of the incredible @stjohn_ambulance team who helped to save a persons life and where my children and I somehow managed to rescue our passports from the bottom of the Adriatic, it's been a mixed bag! 'All this to say, at 47, I've finally found my voice and it's clear, unapologetic and brutally honest. 'To those that fear its truth, you probably have reason to, I have receipts, to those that need to hear it, I've got you and I fully intend to continue using it to change the laws and legislation that neglect women and children in this country and around the world.' Myleene then ended her post with a Bible quote, that said: 'And the truth will set you free' John 8.32,' before adding her own words: 'And then some.'
