Mother says her 7-month-old baby was kidnapped outside a California mall after she was attacked
On Thursday, the boy's mother, Rebecca Haro, reported that she was attacked outside a business in Yucaipa. Officers responded to the call at approximately 7:47 p.m. and were told the woman's child was missing. The boy has been identified as Emmanuel Haro.
The mother said her son was kidnapped after she was attacked.
Police brought scent-tracking dogs to try to locate the child, but the dogs were unable to lead authorities to the missing boy.
The mother told NBC LA Friday that she had just removed her son from his car seat at the plaza when she was hit from behind. She is from Cabazon, 90 miles east of Los Angeles, and was in Yucaipa for her older son's youth sports game.
"I noticed a smell from my baby so I wanted to change him before going into the store," she told the broadcaster. "I took him out of the car seat and I laid him on the chair. I had his diapers here and someone said, 'Hola.' I couldn't turn and I don't remember nothing. I got up from the floor and didn't see my child. Someone took him from me."
Police did not release details about the attack or any description of the attacker or attackers.
As the search for the child continues, investigators said on Saturday they 'cannot rule out foul play.'
Police interviewed Jake and Rebecca Haro, the boy's parents. 'During those interviews, Rebecca was confronted with inconsistencies in her initial statement and declined to continue with the interview,' the sheriff's office said in a Saturday update. Authorities said the search for the child continues.
Emmanuel's parents are urging anyone with information to come forward.
'Whoever took my son, please return him,' Jake Haro told KTLA. 'We just want him back. We won't do anything to you. Just give us our son. Keep him safe, don't hurt him, make sure you feed him and change him.'
'If you know anything, please come forward or take him to the cops,' Rebecca told the outlet. 'Please come and bring my son back. I'm begging you.'
Local law enforcement is also asking for the public's help to find the child.
The infant was last seen wearing a Nike onesie, and weighs approximately 21 pounds. The boy stands about 24 inches tall and has brown hair and brown eyes.

The 28-year-old son of Norway's crown princess has been charged with raping four women and several acts of violence, and risks up to 10 years in prison, a prosecutor said on Monday. Marius Borg Hoiby, who was born from a relationship before Crown Princess Mette-Marit married Crown Prince Haakon, has been under investigation since his arrest on August 4 last year on suspicion of assaulting a girlfriend. Norwegian prosecutors said they have charged Marius Borg Hoiby, the eldest son of Norway's crown princess, with multiple offences including rape following a lengthy investigation. Oslo state attorney Sturla Henriksbo said Hoiby could face up to 10 years in prison if convicted, broadcaster NRK reported. Newsmax Will Pay $67 Million to Settle Dominion Defamation Lawsuit
The right-wing cable channel Newsmax has agreed to pay $67 million to settle a libel lawsuit that Dominion Voting Systems had brought against the channel for falsely claiming that the voting machine company had rigged votes in the 2020 U.S. presidential election. The settlement, which the companies completed on Aug. 15, was disclosed in an S.E.C. filing by Newsmax. It noted that Newsmax would make the payments in three installments by Jan. 15, 2027. A Dominion spokeswoman confirmed the deal in a statement, saying, 'We are pleased to have settled this matter.' Newsmax did not offer an apology, saying in a statement on Monday that it stood by its coverage as 'fair, balanced and conducted within professional standards of journalism.' In 2021, Dominion sued Newsmax for $1.6 billion, accusing the cable channel of knowingly broadcasting conspiracy theories that falsely implicated the company in election fraud and vote rigging. Dominion accused Newsmax of making the baseless claims in 18 statements on television, as well as in a social media post. The statements included false claims that Dominion's software had manipulated vote counts, that Dominion had ties to a Venezuelan company and that Dominion paid kickbacks to certain government officials. In April, Judge Eric M. Davis of the Delaware Superior Court ruled that Dominion had presented 'clear and convincing evidence' that the statements from Newsmax were false and defamatory, allowing the case to proceed to a trial. The trial, where a jury would decide whether Newsmax had broadcast the claims despite knowing they were false and the extent of damages to Dominion, had been set for earlier this year but was postponed. Nearly five years after the 2020 election, a wave of litigation over the broadcasting of false claims is nearing a conclusion. In April 2023, Fox News agreed to pay Dominion $787.5 million to resolve a separate defamation lawsuit over the network's extensive promotion of conspiracy theories that falsely linked Dominion to interference in the 2020 election. Newsmax settled a similar case brought by another voting technology company, Smartmatic, in September for $40 million. Some cases are still underway. Fox News faces a $2.7 billion lawsuit from Smartmatic, which is set to proceed to trial in a Manhattan state court unless the parties reach a settlement. Fox has said it is willing to defend itself at trial, and it has criticized Smartmatic's damages claims as 'intended to chill First Amendment freedoms.'
