Hank Hill is alive and well ... and back from a stint at Saudi Aramco

The Nationala day ago
While recent headlines about Saudi Aramco focus on the oil company's second-quarter financial results, the oil giant is also receiving attention for a reference in the revival of popular US show King of the Hill.
The animated show, which ran on network television from 1997 to 2009, has returned – this time to streaming platform Hulu – after more than 15 years.
The show, which quickly gained popularity in the late 1990s, portrays blue-collar conservative man Hank Hill and his family, living in the traditional, albeit changing fictional town of Arlen, Texas, where he proudly sells propane and propane accessories.
In the first episode of the revival, Hank said he has just returned from spending several years working in Saudi Arabia.
'I was the assistant manager in charge of Arabian propane and Arabian propane accessories for the Aramco,' Hank tells a man as he travels home after a long flight to Texas.
As Hank's wife, Peggy, speaks with passengers on a plane, we learn that the they've been living in Dhahran, Saudi Arabia, where Saudi Aramco's headquarters is located and which contains a community consisting of Saudi Aramco workers from overseas.
Peggy tells the passengers that Hank became a big fan of hummus and falafel while living overseas, and there is a flashback of what life was like for the Hills in Saudi Arabia.
For a show that spent its original run portraying the quirks and idiosyncrasies of a middle-class Texas family, the first episode of the revival referring to the Hills' time spent in Saudi Arabia might come as a surprise, but given the size of the energy industry in Texas, the idea is firmly in the realm of possibility.
According to Saudi Aramco's website, its US-based company, Aramco America, has more than 500 employees working in the country, and consists of three Aramco research centres in Boston, Detroit and Houston.
'Our history in the US dates back more than 70 years,' reads the company's biography page, which also highlights Saudi Aramco's 'first international downstream joint venture' with US oil brand Texaco in 1989.
That joint venture, according to Aramco, eventually led to the company owning North America's largest crude oil refinery in Texas.
Globally, Saudi Aramco employs more than 75,000 people, and through the King of the Hill revival, that now includes Hank Hill of Arlen, Texas.

Savola Group reports strong revenue growth and significant profit improvement for H1 2025

Jeddah, Kingdom of Saudi Arabia – Savola Group – the leading strategic investment holding group in the food and retail sectors across the MENA region, today announced its interim financial results for the six months ended 30 June 2025, delivering strong revenue growth and a substantial improvement in profit after excluding the impact of prior‑year one‑off transactions. The Group achieved revenues of SAR 13.7 billion in H1 2025, compared to SAR 12.3 billion in the same period of 2024. This growth was primarily driven by: Retail Segment: +6% revenue growth, supported by store network expansion and the Customer Experience Revival (CXR) program at Panda Retail Company. Food Processing Segment: Higher volumes and commodity prices in edible oils, particularly in the Saudi market, plus the consolidation of United Sugar Company of Egypt —despite lower sugar volumes and prices. Frozen Foods Segment: 4% revenue increase. The increase came despite lower revenues in the Food Services segment. Strong Financial Performance during H1 2025 Savola Group reported a net profit of SAR 294.9 million for H1 2025, versus SAR 484.1 million in the same period last year. The year‑on‑year decline reflects the absence of the SAR 447.4 million share of profit from Almarai and SAR 54.3 million from discontinued operations, partially offset by lower financial charges (SAR 181.7 million) following debt repayments in 2024. After excluding the impact of these transactions, H1 2025 net profit of SAR 294.9 million represents an increase of SAR 130.8 million versus SAR 164.1 million for H1 2024. The improvement after exclusions was mainly driven by: Stronger performance in Retail and Food Processing segments; Reduction of losses at Herfy (Food Services); Improved results from associates (excluding Almarai and United Sugar Company Egypt) Higher other operating income from reversal of accruals (SAR 52.7 million), partly offset by a SAR 7.9 million net loss on derecognition of non‑current assets due to a regulatory project; Lower finance costs, zakat, and income tax; Partially offset by higher operating expenses mainly due to the effect of consolidating United Sugar Company of Egypt and additional lease arrangements. Q2 2025 Performance Revenue: SAR 6.1 billion (+18% YoY) Net Profit: SAR 105.7 million vs. net loss of SAR 6.3 million in Q2 2024 after excluding prior‑year one‑offs Driven by continued growth in core segments, a Herfy turnaround, and higher other operating income Savola Group's 2024 strategic transactions —including a rights issue, capital reduction, debt repayment, and the distribution of its Almarai stake—have strengthened the Group's balance sheet and created a foundation for sustainable earnings going forward. About Savola Group Founded in 1979, Savola Group is a publicly listed company and a leading strategic investment holding company focused on the food and retail sectors across the MENA region (Middle East, and North Africa). Its core platform, Savola Foods, produces and exports a wide range of food products including edible oils (such as Afia & Shams, and Alarabi brands), sugar (Alosra sugar), pasta (Almaleka and Italiano brands), Bayara and Afia nuts, spices, snacking and multiple ghee brands to more than 50 countries. The Group also owns Panda Retail Company, one of the largest grocery chains in Saudi Arabia, and holds strategic stakes in companies such as Herfy Food Service and Alkabeer Frozen Food. Largest-ever fuel volumes spur ADNOC Distribution's H1 net profit by 12%

UAE's largest fuel and convenience retailer ADNOC Distribution reported double-digit growth in its EBITDA and net profit for the first half of 2025, during which it achieved record fuel volumes of 7.62 billion litres, up 5.6 per cent YoY, and a 14.9 per cent jump in non-fuel retail business. Exceeding analyst expectations, the company achieved its highest-ever first-half EBITDA of US$566 million, up 10.0 per cent YoY, and a 12.2 per cent YoY increase in net profit to US$358 million. Non-fuel retail business continues to drive strong growth, with a 10.4 per cent YoY rise in transactions for the first half of 2025. The continued outperformance of non-fuel retail over fuel retail reinforces the company's strategic focus on diversifying revenue streams and capturing growing demand for convenience services. ADNOC Distribution added 47 new service stations in the first half of 2025, bringing its total network to nearly 940. A majority of the new stations are in Saudi Arabia, where the company is successfully leveraging its CAPEX-light Dealer Owned-Company Operated (DOCO) business model. The model has enabled ADNOC Distribution to double its Saudi network YoY, from 69 to 140 stations. Building on this momentum, ADNOC Distribution has revised its expansion guidance upwards to 60-70 new stations by the end of 2025, with 50-60 of these located in Saudi Arabia. Bader Saeed Al Lamki, CEO of ADNOC Distribution, commented: 'Our strong H1 2025 results demonstrate the successful execution of our 2024-28 growth strategy, driven by operational excellence and customer-focused innovation. 'The sustained growth in EBITDA and net profit highlights our ability to scale effectively, drive value creation, and expand our leadership in mobility and convenience retail. By leveraging advanced technologies, unlocking new operational efficiencies, and bringing our commitment to quality to more communities than ever before, we are well-positioned to deliver sustainable, long-term growth.' With a net debt to EBITDA ratio of 0.80x at the end of H1 2025, the company said it expected an annual payout of US$700 million (at 20.57 fils per share) or a minimum of 75 per cent of net profit, whichever is higher, through 2028. At a share price of AED3.70 as of 6 August, it represented an annual yield of nearly 6 per cent. ADNOC Distribution has embraced advanced AI technologies to drive growth and operational efficiency. By leveraging innovations such as predictive fuel demand models, intelligent assortment, and hyper-personalised offerings, the company said it was 'transforming its operations while enhancing customer satisfaction across its value chain'. During the first half of the year, ADNOC Distribution's E2GO fast- and super-fast EV charging network reached the milestone of over 300 charging points installed across the UAE. The company aims to grow the network to 500+ charging points by 2028, and said it is on track to meet its target of adding 100 new charging points by the end of 2025.
