Yogi pushes for scheme to make farmers self-reliant
Lucknow: Chief Minister
Yogi Adityanath
on Monday gave directions to start '
Mukhyamantri Krishak Samridhi Yojana
' with the aim of increasing the income and economic empowerment of
small and marginal farmers
of the state.
The outline of this ambitious scheme was presented in the review meeting of the cooperative department chaired by the CM on Monday.
Yogi described the scheme as a "visionary" and "farmer-friendly" initiative. He also directed to ensure active participation of NABARD as well as cooperative banks in the proposed scheme.
Yogi said that the state govt is constantly trying to free the farmers from the burden of debt, increase their agricultural productivity and make them self-reliant. "In such a situation, efforts should be made to provide easy loans to farmers at affordable rates.
This scheme will prove to be an effective step in this direction," he said.
The Chief Minister said that the implementation of the scheme should be effective and timely. For this, emphasis was laid on increasing the loan distribution capacity of cooperative banks, providing financial assistance for modernization of branches and ensuring ease of loan to farmers. He directed that a detailed proposal of the scheme should be prepared and submitted soon.

According to the state govt, 37,500 metric tonnes of storage capacity has been developed by constructing 375 warehouses under the Agriculture Infrastructure Fund (AIF) scheme. Under the National Agriculture Development Scheme, a capacity of 1,17,350 metric tonnes has been created through 1,060 warehouses since 2017. Construction of 100 new warehouses is proposed in the year 2025-26.
Apart from this, under the country's largest food storage scheme, warehouses of 500 to 1000 metric tonnes capacity are proposed at 24 centres in 16 districts.
Expressing the need to further increase the storage capacity, the CM directed that an appropriate policy be prepared to ensure the participation of the private sector.
The CM also asked to speed up the selection process through Institute of Banking Personnel Selection (IBPS) for quick recruitment of vacant banking and non-banking posts in the cooperative sector. This will improve the efficiency and quality of service of cooperative institutions.
The participation of Multipurpose Primary Agricultural Credit Societies (M-PACS) in commercial activities also came up for discussion at the meeting. The CM was informed that they have been linked to activities like PDS, Jan Aushadhi, CSC, PM Kisan Samman Kendra and MSP. Under the progress of computerization, 1,539 M-PACS committees are being computerized in the first phase, 1,523 in the second phase and 2,624 in the third phase.
Giving information about the steps taken in the field of cyber security, it was told that Uttar Pradesh Cooperative Bank Limited and 50 district cooperative banks of the state are being connected to NABARD's CBS cloud platform.
The Chief Minister said that while making cooperative institutions self-reliant, farmers' access to technology, credit and marketing should be ensured. He said that making the farmers of the state prosperous and empowered through cooperation is the top priority of the govt, for which the sequence of policy reforms should be continued.

PhysicsWallah's acquisition of Drishti IAS called off: Report
New Delhi: The much-talked-about acquisition of UPSC coaching institute Drishti IAS by edtech unicorn PhysicsWallah has reportedly been called off. The deal was in advanced stages but ultimately fell through due to multiple reasons, according to a report by Entrackr. In April this year, multiple reports said that PhysicsWallah was actively exploring acquisitions to strengthen its position in the civil services preparation segment. The proposed acquisition of Drishti IAS was estimated to be worth between Rs 2,500 and Rs 3,000 crore. Drishti IAS, a well-known name in UPSC coaching, especially among Hindi-medium aspirants, was one of the leading players being considered by PhysicsWallah, along with other institutes like Chaitanya Academy, Rau's IAS Study Circle, and Sarrthi IAS. According to the report, Drishti IAS evaluated the proposal after being approached by PhysicsWallah. However, considering its strong financial performance and independent growth, the company decided not to go ahead with the deal. The report added that Drishti IAS is currently not looking to raise external funds or be acquired. Founded in 1999, Drishti IAS has built a strong presence in the civil services coaching space. In the financial year 2023–24, the Delhi-based institute reported revenue of Rs 405 crore and a profit after tax of Rs 90 crore. The report indicate that the institute is also expected to post healthy growth in FY25. PhysicsWallah, originally focussed on online coaching for engineering and medical entrance exams, has recently been expanding into UPSC and other competitive exams. The acquisition of Drishti IAS was seen as a strategic step to strengthen its offline footprint and diversify its educational offerings -- particularly ahead of its planned stock market debut. However, as of now, both PhysicsWallah and Drishti IAS have not officially responded to the matter. Meanwhile, reports indicate that PhysicsWallah filed its draft IPO papers confidentially in March 2025, aiming to raise around Rs 4,600 crore. If successful, it will become the first Indian edtech unicorn to be listed on the stock exchange.
