Sarawak JPJ personnel's vehicles under scrutiny for regulatory compliance
State JPJ deputy director Nor Azlan Ibrahim said the initiative is aimed at setting a good example for the public on regulatory adherence and road safety.
'We want our officers and staff to serve as role models for the public. Therefore, all their vehicles must comply with the regulations under the Road Transport Act 1987 and the Road Transport Rules,' he said in a statement today.
He advised Sarawak vehicle owners to visit the nearest JPJ branch for information about legally allowed vehicle modifications.
Earlier, Nor Azlan took part in the JPJ Director's Operation No. 5/2025 held at Jalan Tunku Abdul Rahman here alongside JPJ Sarawak head of Operations Section Saifullah Ali.
Nor Azlan said the internal checks have been implemented since last year and any personnel's vehicle found to be non-compliant will be issued a notice for investigation and possible summons if they refuse to adhere.
'This action serves as an initial reminder. If they are still non-compliant, we will proceed with stricter action without further warning,' he added.
He said that, as an enforcement agency for road laws, JPJ will not tolerate any breaches of regulations committed by its personnel.
Nor Azlan also urged the public to comply with road rules, including safety standards and vehicle modifications, to ensure Sarawak's road environment remains safe and conducive.

252 notices issued in Selangor JPJ operation on Kesas highway
SHAH ALAM: The Selangor Road Transport Department (JPJ) issued 252 notices during an integrated operation on the Shah Alam Expressway (Kesas). Motorists stopped during the operation cited forgetfulness as a reason for not carrying their driving licences. Selangor JPJ director Azrin Borhan said 580 vehicles were inspected in the five-hour operation. 'Of the 252 notices issued, 76 were for not having a valid driving licence,' he said. Another 51 notices were issued for expired Motor Vehicle Licences. Forty-nine vehicles were found without valid insurance coverage. Eight drivers were penalised for not holding a Goods Driving Licence. Seven motorists were fined for failing to display registration numbers. Five vehicles were flagged for missing reflectors. Ten other technical offences were recorded during the operation. Azrin noted that some motorists had not renewed their licences for up to two years. 'Most of them were motorcyclists,' he said at a press conference near the Kemuning Toll Plaza. Twelve vehicles, including eight motorcycles and four cars, were impounded. 252 Notices Issued By Selangor JPJ In Integrated Operation On Kesas
SHAH ALAM, Aug 7 (Bernama) -- Motorists stopped during a Selangor Road Transport Department (JPJ) operation on the Shah Alam Expressway (Kesas) yesterday cited forgetfulness as one of the reasons for not carrying their driving licences. Selangor JPJ director Azrin Borhan said the operation, which began at about 8.30 pm and lasted nearly five hours, saw a total of 580 vehicles inspected and 252 notices issued. "Of the 252 notices issued, 76 were for not having a valid driving licence, 51 for expired Motor Vehicle Licences, 49 for vehicles with no insurance coverage, eight for not holding a Goods Driving Licence, seven for failing to display registration numbers, five for missing reflectors, and 10 for other technical offences.

Man arrested after driving against traffic in Kluang
KLUANG: A 51-year-old man has been arrested after allegedly driving against traffic and nearly colliding with an oncoming vehicle in Kluang. Police acted after a 24-second video of the incident went viral on social media. Kluang police chief Assistant Commissioner Bahrin Mohd Noh said investigations found the incident happened at 4pm last Monday, at the Taman Megah intersection at Km57.4 of Jalan Batu Pahat-Mersing. Investigations also revealed that an SUV driven by the man exited Taman Megah by using an entry ramp to enter the lane heading towards Mersing. "The SUV nearly collided with a car that was about to enter the same lane," he said in a statement. Based on the information received, a team of officers from the traffic investigation and enforcement division of the Kluang District Police Headquarters (IPD) arrested the driver for investigation. A urine screening test found the man to be negative for drugs, and the case is being investigated under Section 42(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987 for reckless driving.
