Netflix Breaks A Rule With ‘Untamed' Season 2
Well, I've previously said that if a show performs well enough, it can expand beyond just being a planned-out, one-off miniseries and find renewal. And that's exactly what's just happened on Netflix.
After nearly two weeks on top of its Top 10 list, Netflix has in fact broken its 'limited series' rule and has greenlit Untamed season 2, a sequel to its murder mystery series starring Eric Bana who will return, rather than this being a totally new cast with a totally new mystery. It will, however, be a new national park, indicating most of the cast besides Bana will be left behind.
Bana initially seemed a bit passive when it came to the idea of Untamed season 2, saying it hadn't really been considered at the time, but now? He's pumped:
'I am absolutely thrilled that we get the chance to bring another season of 'Untamed' to life,' Eric Bana told Variety, 'The response to season 1 has been a testament to the incredible effort by our crew to deliver something truly unique. I can't wait to take Kyle on his next journey. Massive thanks to Netflix, John Wells Productions, Warner Bros. Television and our fans.'
And here's co-showrunner Mark L. Smith, speaking to Netflix's blog Tudum:
'Elle and I envisioned it as a stand-alone, six episodes,' Mark L. Smith said. 'But then the more that we got into it, it was just such a great cast … it was just like, 'Oh yeah, how do we keep this going?' "
Untamed
I think having a 'great cast' is somewhat secondary to getting huge viewership, and Netflix saying 'ok do another season,' but the end result is the same. We also already know a bit about the plot of season 2, which will involve Bana's character heading to a different national park besides Yosemite:
'Turner was so comfortable in Yosemite,' Mark said. 'He was the one leading this charge, and people followed him. And now, [we're] putting Kyle on his back foot, making him very uncomfortable … This time we get to follow Turner into a park and let him lead us, and we stumble along with him as he's kind of finding his way.'
Smith does go on to say that maybe they will try to find a way to bring some cast members back to the show, despite being in an entirely new location. The best bet would be Turner's ex-wife, whom he would likely still have a relationship with in some capacity. Many other characters ended up dead, but big supporting character, Naya Vasquez, would take a back-bending plotline to end up in the new park as anything more than a guest star. It's almost certain that season 2 is going to be a 95% new cast.
There is no timeline on when Untamed season 2 will arrive. Given that this was never the plan, and they now have to come up with a new story, best guess is at least a year and a half from now, if not two years, which is streaming standard these days.

3 Must-Watch Movies Coming to Netflix in August 2025: ‘The Thursday Murder Club' and More
July isn't over yet, but Watch With Us is already looking forward to August. Can you blame us? Netflix is scheduled to stream some killer movies like the original Jurassic Park trilogy and the cult comedy classic Wet Hot American Summer. In addition to those films, you should stream The Thursday Mystery Club, a new mystery movie starring Helen Mirren and Pierce Brosnan. If that's not violent enough for you, try The Departed, Martin Scorsese's Oscar-winning crime drama. Netflix subscribers who crave something less violent should stick with Clueless, the 30-year-old comedy with Alicia Silverstone that's gone out of style. 'The Thursday Murder Club' (2025) Murder is more popular than ever these days — at least on Netflix. The streamer has released one hit mystery show or movie after another, with Untamed, Secrets We Keep and Copycat topping the most popular charts this summer. Netflix saved its biggest release for last with The Thursday Murder Club, a highly anticipated feature film adaptation of Richard Osman's bestselling book. For those who haven't read it, The Thursday Murder Club is about four retirees who meet every Thursday at their retirement community in Kent to solve cold cases in their spare time. The fun and games soon give way to an actual murder when a property developer turns up dead. The real police are on the case, but for Elizabeth (Helen Mirren), Ron (Pierce Brosnan), Ibrahim (Ben Kingsley) and Joyce (Celia Imrie), it's a mystery they think only they can solve. But are these amateur sleuths right? Or are they so in over their heads that they may wind up six feet under? Fans of cozy mystery shows like Midsomer Murders and Grantchester will surely enjoy The Thursday Murder Club, which leans more on being a comedy rather than a suspenseful thriller. The cast of British pros can't be beat, and they're supported by an equally impressive roster of actors that includes David Tennant, Richard E. Grant and Naomi Ackie. 'The Departed' (2006) The Departed's plot is ingenious: Irish mob boss Frank (Jack Nicholson) installs one of his men, Colin Sullivan (Matt Damon), in the Boston police department to spy on them. At the same time, the Boston police send one of their own, Billy Costigan (Leonardo DiCaprio), deep undercover in Frank's criminal organization. Both sides realize they've been infiltrated, but they don't know who it is — yet. It's only a matter of time before both Colin and Billy are found out — the only question left to be answered is whose real identity will be revealed first? Loosely adapted from the equally excellent Hong Kong thriller Infernal Affairs, The Departed is a Scorsese movie from top to bottom. The veteran director won his only Oscar so far for his work, and it's deserved just for the suspenseful third act alone. DiCaprio and Damon have never been better as stooges caught in a violent game they tire of playing, and Nicholson has one of his best late-career roles as an oily criminal kingpin whose luck is running out fast. 'Clueless' (1995) Has it really been 30 years since Clueless first debuted in theaters and stole everyone's hearts? We'll refrain from quoting the movie's signature line, 'As if!,' but you get the picture. It's been a while, but time hasn't softened Clueless' satirical bite — or Alicia Silverstone's pitch-perfect performance as the not-so-clueless Cher. Cher is 16 years old and, along with her best friend Dionne (Stacey Dash), queen of her social circle. But when she decides to play matchmaker for new friend Tai (Brittany Murphy), her whole world turns upside down, and she begins to look at everyone, including her ex-stepbrother Josh (Paul Rudd), in a whole new way. Can this spoiled socialite experience the same kind of romantic love she finds for others? Or will she always be a 'virgin who can't drive'? From the fashion to the tunes by Jill Sobule and Counting Crows, Clueless is dated — but in a good way. It's refreshingly '90s, when someone can make a joke about grunge music and still seem relevant. The cast is terrific, but this is Silverstone's show, and she delivers one of the great comedic performances of the decade. Clueless is an eternal rewatchable movie — day or night, summer or winter, it just works, and it should be in your Netflix queue even if you've already seen it a dozen times.

Beyond The Gates Recap: The Duprees Prep For The Articulettes Reunion
Beyond The Gates Recap: The Duprees Prep For The Articulettes Reunion originally appeared on Daytime Confidential. On today's Beyond The Gates recap: Fairmont Country Club: Vernon notices Anita is agitated, and she says she's in a panic in anticipation of going back on stage. She worries she's going to embarrass herself and the entire family. They await her agent's arrival as Vernon does his best to boost her ego. He arrives and says he has a proposition and asks if she would consider singing a solo. Anita says she couldn't as the spotlight belongs to all of them. Anita and Vernon's Mansion: Chelsea arrives to see the grands when she runs into Tracy and Sharon. Chelsea is thrilled and wants to record them for content. Just then, their seamstress arrives but Chelsea is less than thrilled with their outfits. Sharon and Tracy ask for the truth and Chelsea says they will be very familiar to their established fan base. If they want to attract a younger audience, they need to be a little more spicy and electric. The seamstress agrees to help and they get to work. As if no time has passed, they have new outfits for the evening's concert. Sharon and Tracy freak out a bit because they didn't consult Anita but Chelsea thinks she will love the changes. Chelsea puts a wrapped box in front of Sharon and Tracy as it's a part of hers and Kat's next launch. Chelsea begins shooting and asks about what the duo has been doing since the Articulette's dissolution. Sharon and Tracy tell their stories and the two say they've stayed close as sisters all these years. Chelsea shifts to her grandmother and asks how they kept close sisterhood with her. Dani's Place: Naomi arrives to see her mother who is nervous about the possibility of returning to the runway. Dani gets snarky about her daughter's wardrobe and thinks she should change. Naomi wonders if her mother has something with enough coverage to hide the marriage ending secret she's hiding from Jacob. Dani excitedly asks if she can know when her daughter says she's talking about Martin. They discuss the horrible situation but Naomi says she' s'more horrified her father had a man murdered. That information stops Dani dead in her tracks. Naomi tells her mother everything about her father's connection to the dead man in the park. Dani doesn't know how to feel and is infuriated by her family's inconsistent truth telling. She means no shade towards her daughter but can't understand why Naomi was trusted and not her. Naomi says it's because her husband is a cop and they thought she could keep him from digging to deep. Dani asks if Naomi has spoken to Bill since she found out all the details. She says no neither to her father nor husband. Dani says she is not allowed to have marriage problems over this situation when she and Jacob are the last couple standing. Nicole's Pad: Martin and his mother get down to the business of processing his trauma. Nicole tells him to say whatever comes to his mind like he's telling a story. She promises not to judge and hopefully provide insight. Martin says his top priority is saving his marriage and keeping his family together. Nicole asks what it was like for Martin to have two men try to take his power and possibly his life. Martin says he was the one who took a life. Nicole notes that event made him feel powerless to tell the people who could have supported him. He knows his granddad was trying to do the right thing by covering up the whole thing. Nicole isn't so sure as humans who love someone can have the best of intentions with terrible impact. Martin realizes he tried to save his grandfather's life. He shielded the truth from Smitty so he would still look innocent in his eyes. Martin knows Smitty didn't kick him out because of the blood on his hands but the years of lies. He asks his mother how he gets himself back home. Nicole tells her son to take baby steps. She asks about his nightmares, and he indicates his nights are still sleepless. Nicole begins to take her son through some breathing exercises when Dani arrives like a bull in a china shop to turn their frowns upside down. Nicole is mortified she forgot about her mother's concert. Martin can't think about having a good time but Dani encourages both of them to compartmentalize. Dani brought outfits for both of them but Martin says he can't and Nicole concurs. Dani lights into both of them about being petulant teens and convinces them to do their duty. Kat and Chelsea's Digs: Kat and Samantha discuss creating some content for the company. Kat thinks they should do some 'day in the life' videos starring Samantha and their purse products. As she describes the videos, Samantha slips far away. Samantha says she's having issues about her dad and pop. Kat is clearly confused and Samantha says to take a seat. Kat can't believe Martin and Smitty broke up and no one told her. Samantha assumes they didn't want to bother her with her new business and boyfriend. Kat recalls seeing Martin earlier and going on and on about her own issues without inquiring at all about his. Samantha thinks her pop is used to hiding everything from everyone. As someone whose parents' marriage just went to hell, Kat hates burdening Samantha with work. Samantha says it's like a vacation from the trial and tribulations of her current life. Naomi arrives to see Chelsea but Kat says she's not there. Kat indicates Chelsea went to convince Gran to do some social media content prior to the concert. Naomi takes a seat and asks Samantha how she's holding up. Her cousin is holding up and she says devastated with most of the family couples in crisis. Kat thinks Naomi and Jacob need to teach the children the secret to a happy marriage. Naomi flips the script and says they need to concentrate on their Gran and her big night. Smitty and Martin's Place: Smitty talks to Tyrell about the concert and how he'll drop him off and pick him up. Tyrell wants him to come to the concert as grand will not be happy if he doesn't show. Tyrell asks Smitty to help him pick clothing. He still wants his dad to come as he loves the jazz music only her biggest fans know. Smitty still isn't convinced when Tyrell says he's disappointed by his dad backing away from a tough situation… maybe he's been looking up to the wrong person. Smitty thinks Anita's concert is neither the time nor place but Tyrell disagrees. Smitty thinks all the Duprees will hate him for kicking out Martin. He declares he's simply not going. Tyrell says his call and consequences. Anita and Vernon's Mansion: Vernon and Anita arrive home as Chelsea continues to interview Sharon and Tracy. Anita listens in as her bandmates say she is their third sister that married well and moved to the fancy part of town. They get serious saying they went through all kinds of things together which has made them family forever. Chelsea asks if the duo would mind singing something for them. Anita grins as she watches her sisters harmonize together. Afterwards, Vernon and Anita clap and enter. Chelsea ends the video by telling her followers to catch the concert that night. With that, Chelsea makes a quick exit without explaining anything about the outfit changes. Anita looks at the outfits and thinks her granddaughter is a miracle worker. Anita thanks her bandmates for giving her the chance to make things right. She says she only wishes Barbara was there with them. Sharon thinks to move on they need to let go of old baggage. They reminisce about the past, the good and the bad. Tracy says they are about to become The Articulettes 2.0. The women agree to mention Barbara in every interview they give and decide to blame Dante Green for deleting her from the group. The group decides to keep Barbara in their hearts when they go on stage that night. Kat and Chelsea's Digs: Chelsea arrives home and connects with Naomi, Kat and Samantha. She says she connected with Sharon and Tracy while Gran was out of the office. She says she got content with the ChelseaKat logo on display. She sits down with the girls and shows them the video and they are all thrilled. Previous Beyond The Gates Recap: Endings Chelsea and the girls review videos of The Articulettes and can't believe that's their grandmother. Chelsea thinks it's time for R&B to meet Gen Z. Vernon arrives to see Smitty and Tyrell. Smitty isn't sure what's going on but realizes Tyrell made this happen. Vernon realizes he and Smitty need to have a one on one. He agrees but says tonight is about Anita. Vernon agrees but hopes Smitty will put aside his anger for the night and come to the concert to support Anita. Tyrell jumps in and says his dad has to go. Anita tells Tracy and Sharon about her visit with Jim Price and says they have something to vote on. She tells them about his solo request and wanted to bring it to them before giving him an answer. She admits she told him no but wants their input. Martin thinks he will bring everyone down if he goes to the concert. Dani says Anita will eat his liver for dinner if he doesn't show. She also says there will be more speculation in the political world if he doesn't show up at his own grandmother's concert and Nicole agrees… Keep checking back for the latest Beyond The Gates recaps!
