Quest Software has appointed a new executive team to support its expansion priorities in AI readiness, cybersecurity, and platform modernisation.
Key executive hires
The company has announced the appointments of Ashish Joshi as President and Chief Financial Officer, Maureen Perrelli as Chief Channel Officer, and John Bertero as Senior Vice President and Chief Revenue Officer. These leadership positions have been filled in response to increased demand for artificial intelligence, secure identity management, and updated data platforms in the enterprise sector.
Ashish Joshi will oversee Finance, Legal, and Compliance. Joshi previously served as Chief Operating Officer and Chief Financial Officer at Redwood Software and has a background in scaling software-as-a-service enterprises.
Maureen Perrelli brings experience from her prior roles at Oracle, GE, Secureworks, NCR, and Brivo, and will now lead Quest Software's global channel strategy. She is responsible for developing the company's partner ecosystem to address the requirements of businesses seeking AI enablement.
John Bertero, who has a track record of managing high-performing sales teams, assumes responsibility for all global sales operations with a focus on customer-centric solutions.
Investment and strategy
These appointments follow a capital investment of USD $350 million intended to accelerate product development around embedded AI capabilities and readiness technologies. This investment supports Quest Software's plans to help enterprises unlock greater value from AI while strengthening its partner network, which focuses on strategic alliances across data, identity, and Microsoft environments, including Active Directory and Entra ID.

Organisations using Microsoft Active Directory as their primary identity management system face a significant cybersecurity risk as the advent of quantum computing begins to challenge established cryptographic protections, according to Certes. Certes has released a technical analysis outlining how the introduction of post-quantum cryptography (PQC), designed to resist powerful quantum computing attacks, reveals vulnerabilities in legacy systems such as Active Directory. The report indicates organisations could be exposed to attacks if underlying identity infrastructure does not evolve alongside cryptographic standards. The analysis warns that most businesses still rely on authentication systems originally built for classical computing environments. These systems employ protocols and structures including Kerberos authentication, domain trusts, and key distribution mechanisms, all of which may be unsuitable as the threat landscape evolves with quantum technology. Expert warning This isn't a hypothetical risk anymore," said Simon Pamplin, CTO at Certes. "The cryptographic standards being pushed out today are being fast-tracked to combat real and present quantum risks. But the problem is that most organisations still depend on Active Directory; a system never designed to survive this level of cryptographic upheaval. Quantum computers are predicted to eventually possess the capacity to break the cryptographic algorithms that underpin many of today's security solutions. In anticipation, new PQC algorithms are being developed and deployed. While these are expected to provide a more secure foundation for future digital infrastructure, Certes warns that existing directory services such as Active Directory were not created with quantum resilience in mind. Certes' technical team notes that, despite advances in other areas of cybersecurity, the core identity and access management systems within many enterprises remain based on decades-old technology. This dependence could create opportunities for attackers to exploit the gap between new cryptographic protections and legacy identity protocols. The firm contends that even organisations investing in modern security features such as multi-factor authentication or cloud-based platforms may remain at risk if their identity backbone is not upgraded to keep pace with cryptographic developments. What's most alarming is the false sense of security," added Simon. "Many CISOs are focused on perimeter security modernisation, MFA here, a cloud migration there, but underneath, the enterprise's digital identity is still built on sand. Industry recommendations Certes is calling on senior decision-makers, including Chief Information Security Officers (CISOs) and IT strategists, to closely review and update their security models. The company advises organisations to assess the specific vulnerabilities associated with integrating PQC into Active Directory environments, map out all current cryptographic dependencies ahead of any PQC-related implementation, and re-evaluate their digital identity strategies to look beyond legacy directory services. The organisation is actively providing guidance to clients in sectors such as finance, healthcare, defence, and government. Certes states that solutions exist today to support data protection in the face of quantum threats, and that its current focus is helping customers establish robust, future-proof strategies to secure critical assets before new attack methods become widespread. The analysis concludes that the intersection of post-quantum algorithms and enterprise authentication, particularly where Active Directory is concerned, poses an urgent and complex challenge for organisations dependent on traditional security architectures. New research from Secureframe has identified the five most significant emerging cyber threats for 2025, focusing on the risks posed to critical sectors including healthcare, infrastructure, and small and medium-sized businesses. The report by Secureframe analyses recent high-profile breaches along with global threat trends and highlights an environment increasingly shaped by AI-driven attacks, organised cybercrime groups, and the rapid exploitation of newly discovered vulnerabilities. Rising threats across sectors Findings within the report indicate ransomware attacks on industrial operators grew by 46% in the first quarter of 2025 alone. Healthcare breach costs have reached an average of USD $5.3 million per incident, marking a 25% increase above the next closest industry. AI-driven criminal tools are enabling the widespread use of advanced phishing schemes, deepfakes, and malware that adapts to targets in real-time. Supply chain vulnerabilities are also being targeted more frequently by cybercriminals, with third-party vendor breaches now a primary vector for large-scale attacks. One cited example was the collapse of the 158-year-old KNP Logistics due to a ransomware incident, underscoring the real-world impact on businesses of all sizes. Organised cybercrime syndicates The report lists organised criminal networks as the number one threat, noting that these groups are expanding their activities through tools such as automation and ransomware-as-a-service platforms. LockBit is highlighted as an active player despite international efforts to dismantle such organisations, while new groups, including Interlock, are emerging to mimic these operations. AI-powered attacks Attackers are leveraging generative AI to craft realistic phishing lures, create deepfakes, and generate malware that adapts in real-time. In one case, AI-generated content helped defraud over 500,000 investors in the JuicyFields scam. Such developments signify a shift in the sophistication of cyber threats, demanding equally advanced detection and response capabilities. Advanced persistent threats Nation-state actors are intensifying long-term, covert attacks primarily targeting energy providers and defence contractors. Groups such as APT33 and APT39 were particularly active across North America and Europe in 2025, with campaigns designed to evade traditional security measures for months at a time. Zero-day vulnerabilities The research outlines that previously unknown and unpatched weaknesses are being exploited at a record pace. An example in 2025 was a critical flaw in Microsoft SharePoint (CVE-2025-53770) which was actively targeted globally before vendors released a remedy. Software supply chain attacks Third-party software platforms are being leveraged as a point of entry for cyberattacks against broader enterprise ecosystems. Secureframe notes that attacks involving compromised SAP SuccessFactors providers resulted in breaches extending into sectors from healthcare to consumer goods. Industry-specific warnings The healthcare sector is seen as especially vulnerable. The report states: "With 92% of organizations reporting attacks in 2024, the sector must prioritize HIPAA-compliant training and secure offline backups." Critical infrastructure operators in the defence and energy fields are advised to implement the NIST 800-172 and CMMC 2.0 frameworks to respond to escalating threats from nation-state actors. Financial services continue to face risks associated with investment fraud and business email compromise, prompted by increasingly refined social engineering attacks. Mitigation strategies Secureframe's report includes a recommended 10-step cybersecurity playbook designed to align with NIST CSF 2.0 and ISO 27001 standards. Suggested actions consist of emergency patching, multi-factor authentication enforcement, privileged account monitoring, third-party vendor assessments, continuous threat detection, and regular employee phishing simulations and tabletop crisis exercises. Methodology The findings were generated through the examination of cybersecurity incidents across multiple industries, using case studies of attacks on healthcare organisations, infrastructure systems, and large corporations during 2024 and 2025.

But only those with a US$200-a-month ($335) 'Pro' subscription get unlimited access to the newly released system. GPT-5 will be the default mode on all versions. Users not paying for ChatGPT will only be able to ask a certain number of questions answered by GPT-5 before the chatbot switches back to using an older version of OpenAI's technology. How will GPT-5 change ChatGPT? GPT-5 responds to questions faster than OpenAI's previous offerings and is less likely to 'hallucinate' or make up false answers, OpenAI executives said at a news briefing before its release. It gives ChatGPT 'better taste' when generating writing, said Nick Turley, who leads work on the chatbot. OpenAI's new AI software can also answer queries using a process dubbed reasoning that shows the user a series of messages attempting to break down a question into steps before giving its final answer. 'GPT-5 is the first time that it really feels like talking to an expert, a PhD-level expert,' OpenAI CEO Sam Altman said. Altman said GPT-5 is particularly good at generating computer programming code, a feature that has become a major selling point for OpenAI and rival AI developers and has transformed the work of programmers. What does it mean for an AI chatbot to 'reason?' GPT-5 could give many people their first encounter with AI systems that attempt to work through a user's request step-by-step before giving a final answer. That so-called 'reasoning' process has become popular with AI companies because it can result in better answers on complex questions, particularly on math and coding tasks. Watching a chatbot generate a series of messages that read like an internal monologue can be alluring, but AI experts warn users not to confuse the technique with a peek into AI's black box. The self-chatter doesn't necessarily reflect an internal process like that of a human working on a problem, but designing chatbots to create what are sometimes dubbed 'chains of thought' forces the software to allocate more time and energy to a query. OpenAI released its first reasoning model in September for its paying users, but Chinese start-up DeepSeek in January released a free chatbot that made its 'chain of thought' visible to users, shocking Silicon Valley and temporarily tanking American tech stocks. The company said ChatGPT will now automatically send some queries to the 'reasoning' version of GPT-5, depending on the type of conversation and complexity of the questions asked. Is GPT-5 the 'super intelligence' or 'artificial general intelligence' OpenAI has promised? No. Tech leaders have for years been making claims that AI is improving so fast it will soon become able to learn and perform all tasks that humans can at or better than our own ability. But GPT-5 does not perform at that level. Super intelligence and artificial general intelligence, or AGI, remain ill-defined concepts because human intelligence is very different from the capabilities of computers, making comparisons tricky. OpenAI CEO Altman has been one of the biggest proponents of the idea that AI capabilities are increasing so rapidly that they will soon revolutionise many aspects of society. 'This is a significant step forward,' Altman said of GPT-5. 'I would say it's a significant fraction of the way to something very AGI-like.' Changes OpenAI made to ChatGPT in April triggered backlash online after examples of the chatbot appearing to flatter or manipulate users went viral. The company undid the update, saying an attempt to enhance the chatbot's personality and make it more personalised instead led it to reinforce user beliefs in potentially dangerous ways, a phenomenon the industry calls 'sycophancy'. OpenAI said it worked to reduce that tendency further in GPT-5. As AI companies compete to keep users engaged with their chatbots, they could make them compelling in potentially harmful ways, similar to social media feeds, The Washington Post reported in May. In recent months, some people have alleged that loved ones were driven to violence, delusion or psychosis by hours spent talking to ChatGPT. Lawsuits against other AI developers claim their chatbots contributed to incidents of self-harm and suicide by teens. OpenAI released a report on GPT-5's capabilities and limits Thursday that said the company looked closely at the risks of psychosocial harms and worked with Microsoft to probe the new AI system. It said the reasoning version of GPT-5 could still 'be improved on detecting and responding to some specific situations where someone appears to be experiencing mental or emotional distress'. Earlier this week, OpenAI said in a blog post it was working with physicians across more than 30 countries, including psychiatrists and paediatricians, to improve how ChatGPT responds to people in moments of distress. Turley, the head of ChatGPT, said the company is not optimising ChatGPT for engagement.
