Daily Mirror11-07-2025
Singer Chris Brown is due to appear at court again today after pleading not guilty to causing grievous bodily harm last month.
The Yo (Excuse Me Miss) singer, 36, is expected to appear at Southwark Crown Court today for a plea and trial preparation hearing.
Last month, Brown appeared at the same court and entered a plea of not guilty to the charge of grievous bodily harm with intent in connection to an alleged incident that took place at Tape nightclub in London in February 2023.
Brown is accused of allegedly attacking Abraham Diaw with a bottle at the Tape venue in Hanover Square, Mayfair, on February 19 2023. During an appearance at Southwark Crown Court on June 20, Brown and his co-defendant, US national Omololu Akinlolu, plead not guilty.
During the hearing, they were further charged with assaulting Mr Diaw occasioning him actual bodily harm, with Brown also facing one count of having an offensive weapon – a bottle – in a public place, but were not asked to enter pleas at the time.
The singer and dancer, who has continued to tour after his arrest in May, has been pictured arriving at court today.
Sporting a brown checked blazer jacket, white shirt and red and yellow striped tie, he had a straight face while walking towards the court.
He added oversized sunglasses with brown lenses and a black thick frame to his ensemble.
As the singer arrived in the UK ahead of his European stint of his Brezy Bowl XX 20th anniversary tour on May 15, he was arrested at the Lowry Hotel, Salford.
He was arrested in connection with an alleged attack on music producer Abraham Abe Diaw. The alleged attack, which prosecutors described as "unprovoked", is said to have taken place at London's Tape nightclub in Mayfair on February 19, 2023.
Speaking last month, Deputy Chief Crown Prosecutor for CPS London North, Adele Kelly said: "We have authorised the Metropolitan Police to charge Chris Brown, 36, with one count of grievous bodily harm, contrary to section 18 of the Offences Against the Person Act 1861.
"The alleged incident occurred in London on February 19, 2023. He will have his first court appearance on Friday, May 16 at Manchester Magistrates' Court. The Crown Prosecution Service reminds all concerned that criminal proceedings against this defendant are active and that he has the right to a fair trial.
"It is extremely important that there should be no reporting, commentary or sharing of information online which could in any way prejudice these proceedings."
The singer is charged with grievous bodily harm, assault occasioning actual bodily harm and having an offensive weapon, a bottle, in a public place.
Last month Brown plead not guilty to the charge of grievous bodily harm. During that hearing, which took place on June 20, he was charged with ABH and having an offensive weapon in a public placee

NATO scrambles war planes as Putin unleashes hell on Ukraine despite peace promise

Vladimir Putin unleashed more missile strikes on Ukraine overnight after European leaders joined Volodymyr Zelensky and Donald Trump for a meeting at the White House yesterday NATO scrambled war planes overnight as Vladimir Putin launched a brutal onslaught on Ukraine despite telling Donald Trump he is committed to peace. ‌ The horrific Russian attacks came even as Donald Trump claimed the Russian tyrant had agreed to peace talks with Volodymyr Zelensky, with hopes a meeting will take place by the end of August. This followed the Trump-Zelensky talks in a White House session aimed at ending the war. ‌ There were immediate doubts over Putin's sincerity due to both his overnight strikes on Ukraine, and his aide Yury Ushakov failing to specify that the Kremlin leader would personally take part in talks with Zelensky. ‌ NATO fighter jets were scrambled due to the intensity of the Russian attacks on Ukraine which involved Tu-95MS strategic bombers unleashing cruise missiles as they flew over the Caspian Sea. 'On the night of August 18-19, 2025, long-range aviation of the Russian Federation once again launched missile attacks on Ukrainian territory,' said a statement from Warsaw's military headquarters. 'To ensure the security of Polish airspace, the Operational Command of the Polish Armed Forces (RFAF) has activated all necessary procedures. 'Polish and allied aircraft have commenced operations, and ground-based air defence and radar reconnaissance systems have reached the highest level of alert.' ‌ The move was 'preventative in nature and aimed at securing airspace and protecting citizens, especially in areas adjacent to the threatened area'. Putin told Trump in a 40 minute phone conversation that he sought peace, yet he hit Kremenchuk with both ballistic and cruise missiles. Russia reportedly deployed five of its hulking Tu-95MS strategic bombers for the overnight strikes, and fired 270 Shahed drones at Ukraine. At least 10 giant explosions rocked the city with 30 across the Poltava region, plunging thousands into darkness with electricity cuts. ‌ 'The entire Kremenchuk is in smoke - close your windows,' warned one report. 'Terrible consequences after one of the most massive attacks on the city.' The city was hit by 'dozens of drones, ballistic and cruise missiles', another said. Administrative buildings of local energy sector enterprises were damaged, while gas storage facilities in Poltava region were hit. 'The enemy launched a massive strike on the Poltava region,' said regional governor Volodymyr Kohut. ‌ 'Hits and debris falls were recorded in the Kremenchuk and Lubny districts. Administrative buildings of local energy sector enterprises were damaged. In the Lubny district, as a result of the attack, 1,471 residential and 119 legal subscribers were left without electricity. Emergency Service and energy units are working to eliminate the consequences of the attack.' Ukraine's Chernihiv region was also attacked by Russian drones. In Dnipropetrovsk, an apartment building and school were hit. ‌ Trump said on Truth Social that he had spoken to Putin and begun preparations for a meeting between Zelensky and the Kremlin dictator. 'I called President Putin, and began the arrangements for a meeting, at a location to be determined, between President Putin and President Zelensky,' he said. This would be followed by a trilateral meeting also involving Trump. The aim appears to be for such a session to take place by the end of this month. ‌ But Putin's foreign affairs guru Yury Ushakov gave a less optimistic outlook, while admitting the call with Trump had been 'frank' as well as 'constructive'. ' Vladimir Putin and Donald Trump expressed support for continuing direct negotiations between the delegations of Russia and Ukraine,' said Putin's trusted aide. 'In this regard, in particular, the idea was discussed that it would be necessary to study the possibility of raising the level of representatives of the Ukrainian and Russian sides.' ‌ He did not say Putin had agreed to meet - only that the Kremlin could 'study' the 'possibility' of future talks involving more senior representatives than previous sessions in Istanbul. 'Vladimir Putin and Donald Trump agreed to continue to closely contact each other on the Ukrainian and other pressing issues of the international and bilateral agenda,' said Ushakov. 'The Russian President once again noted the importance of Donald Trump's personal efforts to find solutions that lead to a long-term settlement in Ukraine. The conversation was frank and very constructive.' ‌ Meanwhile, Ukraine struck the Lukoil refinery in Russian city Volgograd, leaving it in flames. The roof of City Hospital No. 16 was hit by a downed drone. More than 15 explosions were heard in the city and suburbs during the night. The Russian Ministry of Defence said 13 drones had been destroyed over the Volgograd region. The refinery - one of Russia's biggest - is essential to Putin's war effort, supplying his military machine. In all, some 270 Shahed drones, up to five Kh-101 and five Iskander-M missiles hit were unleashed on Ukraine in the wake of the White House peace talks. Ukraine said 230 enemy Shaheds were downed along with two Iskander-M ballistic missiles and four Kh-101 cruise missiles. During the talks, Zelensky thanked Trump 11 times in just four-and-a-half minutes as the US president pledged US security guarantees for a post-war Ukraine.

Trans Met Police volunteer, 27, 'posed as 16-year-old girl online before raping woman' court hears

A trans Metropolitan Police volunteer posed as a 16-year-old girl when he first began talking to the woman he is accused of raping, a court has heard. James Bubb, 27, who now identifies as a woman named Gwyn Samuels, allegedly raped the woman he was in an on-off relationship with over a five-year period. A trial at Amersham Law Courts on Monday heard that the pair had met on the online chat site, Omegle, while Bubb was posing as a teenage girl and that they had spoken about a sexual practice known as BDSM. Jurors previously heard the woman had told police Bubb, of High Street, Chesham, Buckinghamshire, went on to use 'BDSM and kink as a way of creating control' throughout their relationship. The complainant, who cannot be named for legal reasons, told the court on Monday: 'When I met James on Omegle, I didn't know that it was James at first, they introduced themselves as a teenage girl so I was more concerned than anything else, and then kind of just talking to them about maybe this isn't what they should want to look at at their age.' She said: 'As I said, James first presented themselves as a 16-year-old girl.' Jurors previously heard the pair started talking when the complainant had 'just turned 18' and that she had been 'terrified' after Bubb had suggested 'knife-play' during their relationship. In her police interview, she said: 'When a guy is trailing a knife down you telling you the things he could do with it and you are terrified and you don't trust he would stop - the safe word means nothing.' Adrian Amer, defending Bubb, asked: 'All the BDSM you had with James was completely consensual wasn't it?' 'No,' the alleged victim replied. Mr Amer said: 'Did you introduce knife-play?' 'I did not introduce knife-play,' the woman replied. Mr Amer asked: 'In your knife-play, sometimes you were blindfolded weren't you?' 'Yes,' the witness said. 'And James would use a blunt butter knife to run along your body, a blunt butter knife that's correct, isn't it?' Mr Amer asked. 'I have no way of knowing if it was a blunt butter knife, I was blindfolded,' the alleged victim said. Asked to describe the knife that Bubb would use during times where the alleged victim was not blindfolded, she said it was a 'large-ish knife' like the type 'used to cut vegetables'. Regarding the size of the knife, the woman indicated it was shorter than the length of an A4 piece of paper. Bubb has denied one count of rape in relation to the complainant, and two counts of rape, two counts of sexual activity with a child, one count of assault of a child under 13 by penetration, one count of rape of a child under 13 and one count of assault by penetration in relation to another complainant. A not guilty verdict on one of the rape charges in relation to the second complainant was returned on Wednesday after the prosecution offered no evidence. All charges are alleged to have taken place between January 1, 2018 and April 2, 2024. The defendant denies all charges. The trial continues.

NTAs 2025 nominations as Strictly lands three nods despite numerous scandals

The nominations are in for the National Television Awards 2025, and despite the ongoing drama surrounding Strictly Come Dancing, the BBC show is a firm favourite Strictly Come Dancing has become a favourite contender for this year's National Television Awards. The glitzy event returns in just a matter of weeks, and the shows nominated have finally been confirmed by bosses. Each year, hundreds of famous faces gather for one of the best nights in the television calendar as they come together to find out who and what shows will be crowned. This year, comedian and presenter Joel Dommett will return to hosting duties on Wednesday, September 10, at London's O2 Arena. But despite Strictly being surrounded by controversies, including Wynne Evans'"grope," Jamie Borthwick's derogatory actions, and, more recently, a cocaine scandal, which has since resulted in an investigation by the Metropolitan Police, they've come out on top and received three nods. It comes as ITV axes Noel Edmonds' big TV comeback after just one series. Earlier this month, the BBC brought in top law firm Pinsent Masons to investigate allegations of drug taking. Former stars, professional dancers and crew members have been invited to discuss any concerns they may have had. Now, the Met has confirmed that they are investigating the allegations. In a statement shared with the Mirror, the force said: "On Tuesday 12 August, the Metropolitan Police received an allegation about drug-related offences. Police are assessing the information, and further enquiries are taking place to establish whether there is evidence of a criminal offence being committed. We won't be commenting further at this time." Elsewhere, reality star Molly-Mae Hague is competing against Freddie Flintoff, Rob Burrow, Boyzone, and Strictly star Amy Dowden in the Authored Documentary. Meanwhile, former Match of the Day star Gary Lineker has been nominated for Presenter, competing against Claudia Winkleman, Ant McPartlin, Declan Donnelly, Alison Hammond, and Stacey Solomon. This year, BBC Breakfast has been left out of the nominations for the Daytime category. This follows a string of complaints made against anchor Naga Munchetty, who is the subject of a BBC review amidst allegations of "bullying" on both Breakfast and her BBC Radio 5 Live programme. "The review is to ascertain whether a full-on investigation is required and that could come in weeks," an insider claimed to The Sun. The BBC said: "While we do not comment on individual cases, we take all complaints about conduct at work extremely seriously and will not tolerate behaviour that is not in line with our values. We have robust processes in place and would encourage any staff with concerns to raise them directly with us so they can be addressed." Solomon has landed three nods – two of which are in the Factual Entertainment category for Sort Your Life Out, as well as her own show, Stacey and Joe, documenting their life.
