ViTrox banks on AI for continuing growth
Last week, ViTrox, a maker of automated vision inspection equipment and system-on-chip embedded electronics devices for the semiconductor and electronics packaging industries, reported results for the second quarter of this year (2Q) that met market expectations.
CIMB Research has maintained a 'hold' call on the stock with an unchanged target price of RM3.80 based on price-earnings multiple of 40.8 times for next year, broadly aligned with the domestic automated test equipment industry's five-year average.
'Our valuation reflects a more optimistic outlook for the electrical and electronics sector.
'It is underpinned by ViTrox's solid AI-related order pipeline and regional diversification, which continue to support earnings visibility,' it said.
Taiwan, Malaysia, and Vietnam contributed one-third of revenue in the first half of this year (1H25), up from 24% in 1H24.
CIMB Research said the company's management 'is optimistic about securing pioneer status tax incentives in 2H25, supported by multiple new product introductions slated for rollout in 2H25.
'Notably, ViTrox has commenced shipments of its next-generation AXI system under the QX Series, designed for artificial intelligence servers, telecommunications, and automotive vision inspection,' it added.
Maybank Investment Bank (Maybank IB) Research said a briefing with the company's management reaffirmed the company's growth trajectory for 2H25.
The company highlighted robust demand across all core segments.
'Despite macro noise, management noted that 2Q25 growth was not solely frontloaded from US tariffs, with 3Q25 already seeing continued order inflows,' Maybank IB said.
The research house maintained a 'hold' call on the stock but with a higher target price of RM4.11 from RM3.89.
This is on a 6% rise in earnings for FY26 to FY27 based on better demand.
While the company expects the tax incentives to be granted by either 3Q or 4Q, higher tax provisions would remain a near-term drag.
'While we are positive on ViTrox's fundamentals and market positioning, valuations are increasingly demanding, trading at a premium to its peers, likely pricing in a full demand recovery,' the research house pointed out.

Cautious market outlook for Hartalega
CIMB Research said near-term catalysts remains limited as tariff-related uncertainties and expansion of Chinese players' overseas capacity could further weigh on the industry. PETALING JAYA: The market remains cautious on the outlook for glovemaker Hartalega Holdings Bhd despite efforts on cost optimisation and the gradual recovery in demand as inventories from restocking diminishes. The company released its first quarter ended June 30, 2025 of financial year 2026 (FY26) results on Tuesday that were below market expectations due to lower demand and weaker average selling prices (ASPs). While the company told analysts at a briefing that it expects gradual recovery in FY26, observers have largely maintained a cautious stance due to oversupply from Chinese glovemakers leading to competitive ASPs and a looming RM101mil tax issue stemming from additional assessment for the years 2017 to 2022. CIMB Research, which maintained a 'hold' rating on the stock with a lower target price (TP) of RM1.45 from RM2.30, said near-term catalysts remains limited as tariff-related uncertainties and expansion of Chinese players' overseas capacity could further weigh on the industry. 'However, we see limited downside to the stock at current levels, with price-to-book value valuations now back to levels last seen during the glove supply glut in 2023, when industry-wide losses were prevalent,' it added. MBSB Research has kept its 'neutral' recommendation on the stock with a TP of RM1.24 from RM2.45. The research house pointed out to the thinning profit margins due to continued pricing pressure from Chinese glovemakers in the non-US markets. 'Note that the blended ASP contracted by 5% year-on-year. 'Given the pressure on both revenue and cost, we observed that the profit margin contracted to 2.4% from 6.8% a year ago,' it said, adding that the tough operating environment has translated to downward earnings revision of more than 50% for FY26 and FY27. Phillip Capital has also maintained a 'hold' rating with a TP of RM1.34 from RM1.64, reflecting lower ASP assumptions of US$19 to US$21 per 1,000 pieces from US$20 to US$22 as well as reduced sales volume in line with the company's latest guidance of six billion to six-and-a-half billion pieces. Maybank Investment Bank Research has maintained a 'sell' call with a TP of RM1.35 from RM1.41. The reserach house noted that that the company would continue to focus on its core nitrile glove segment and cost optimisation efforts, including workforce redeployment together with investing RM200mil to RM300mil over the next 18 to 24 months in automation and energy-saving upgrades. UOB Kay Hian Research expects the challenging outlook to continue pressuring sales and while the company expects US demand to recover, intensifying Chinese competition and oversupply dynamics continue to impact earnings. It has maintained a 'hold' call with a TP of RM1.40 from RM1.55.

Water rate hike to benefit companies in sector
CIMB Research said the tariff adjustments help negate a sharp rise in electricity costs and other water-related operating expenses for water treatment plant operators. PETALING JAYA: With an upcoming revision of water tariff rates, investors looking for exposure to water infrastructure-related stocks should look to the listed operators and the ones involved in water-related infrastructure construction, analysts say. The rate revision covers nearly all of Peninsular Malaysia and Labuan from Aug 1. CIMB Research said the immediate beneficiaries include Ranhill Utilities Bhd and PBA Holdings Bhd , being the only listed water operators on Bursa Malaysia. The research house has selected Gamuda Bhd as the preferred play for water-related infrastructure construction pending updates on the private sector's role in the country's water sector transformation. It noted that Gamuda 'is in a strong position to secure construction work worth RM4bil from the water supply schemes for Ulu Padas in Sabah, and Northern Perak', with work for the latter scheme to be carried out on a privatisation basis for a minimum of 40 years. Gamuda can be expected to be in the running for more jobs under the second phase of the Rasau water supply scheme in Terengganu after taking on the main contractor role for the scheme's water treatment plant worth RM2bil. For bulk water transfer, Engtex Group Bhd , one of only two domestic producers of large-diameter mild steel concrete-lined pipes up to 3m in diameter and the sole local producer of ductile iron pipes of up to 1.2m is well-positioned to meet future demand for large-diameter pipe infrastructure, the research house added. For flood mitigation, the research house suggests IJM Corp Bhd and Malaysian Resources Corp Bhd, with 'buy' recommendations and target prices of RM3.70 and 83 sen, respectively. 'In our view, the latest revision in water tariffs provides more room for the water operators to upgrade water infrastructure, accelerate the replacement of ageing pipes, and reduce non-revenue water. The tariff adjustments also help negate a sharp rise in electricity costs and other water-related operating expenses for water treatment plant operators,' it said. CIMB Research said despite the revision in the water tariff, funding from the private sector would still be required to help reduce the government's financial obligations to facilitate water-related investments required under the Water Sector Transformation Plan 2040.

Data centres to bolster YTL Power
CIMB Research reduced its 2025 to 2027 core net profit forecasts for YTL Power by between 7% and 17%. PETALING JAYA: Despite a cut in YTL Power International Bhd 's overall profit forecasts, CIMB Research is still upbeat on the group's data centre business. The research house raised its forecast on earnings before interest, taxes, depreciation and amortisation (Ebitda) margins for YTL Power's co-located data centre segment. 'Its 160 megawatt (MW) of new capacity is factored in for YTL Power's financial years 2027 (FY27) and FY28 and upon gaining better understanding of the company's operating expenditure, we believe our previous 50% Ebitda margin assumption for the co-located data centre business was too conservative. 'Consequently, we have raised this forecast to 70%. Additionally all its existing capacity of 188MW has been leased out,' CIMB Research said. The research house said it believes YTL Power will soon start developing new phases for this segment of its business. 'We now assume an extra 160MW of capacity will go live in stages across FY27 and FY28. Thus, we project core net profit from co-located data centres will rise from RM115mil in FY26 to RM431mil by FY29. 'Excluding the 160MW in co located data centre expansion, YTL Power's fair value would be RM4.08,' the research house said. However, the research house cut its earnings forecast for the artificial intelligence (AI) data centre segment, now assuming 12MW is deployed on Nvidia's DGX Cloud from 20MW previously. The research house said YTL Power will use the remaining capacity to commercially offer its large language model and other AI solutions. Meanwhile, CIMB Research reduced its 2025 to 2027 core net profit forecasts for YTL Power by between 7% and 17%, bringing forward Ebitda per megawatt hour compression for Power Seraya but keeping long-term margins intact, while lowering AI data centre earnings. 'However, we maintain our 'buy' rating and raise YTL Power's target price by 14% to RM4.55 on higher fair value for the co-located data centre business and the Wessex Water business in Britain. Key rating catalysts are from the new 160MW co-located data centre expansion in FY27 and FY28,' the research house said. In addition, CIMB Research said projected strong Wessex Water earnings growth due to a 21% water tariff hike in Britain in April , and potential new Malaysian power plant projects also bode well for YTL Power.
