2025 PFL World Tournament 8 results: Thad Jean masterclasses Logan Storley in tournament final

USA Today02-08-2025
Thad Jean is the 2025 PFL Welterweight World Tournament winner – and he might be soon one of the promotion's biggest stars.
Over the course of five rounds, Jean (11-0) largely had his way with former Bellator interim champion Logan Storley (18-3) en route to a unanimous decision (49-46, 49-46, 48-47) victory. The bout headlined Saturday's 2025 PFL World Tournament 8 at Jim Whelan Boardwalk Hall in Atlantic City, N.J.
The opening round was all Jean, as he showed off not only striking prowess and poise but some grappling skills as well. Despite Storley's wrestling notoriety, Jean mounted him in the opening 90 seconds. Storley worked his way up and out of danger – at least, momentarily.
Jean pummeled Storley in Round 2 after a front kick to the face. With referee Gary Copeland practically breathing on the fighters, the fight was close to being stopped. But Storley hung tough and did just enough to evade.
While Storley's cardio maintained, he was unable to generate offense like Jean. Jean utilized both technique and flashiness to pick apart Storley for the remainder of the fight.
With the victory, Jean earns $500,000 and is named the 2025 welterweight tournament winner.
Jean, 27, is one of the promotion's top homegrown talents to date. He came through the PFL Challenger Series at 4-0. He competed on PFL undercards until 8-0, when he was a late replacement to the 2025 tournament bracket. He defeated Mukhamed Berkhamov and Jason Jackson in the first two rounds of the tournament to set up the Storley fight in the final.
Storley, 32, was imported into PFL after the promotion's merger with Bellator. He went 1-1 in the 2024 season format but didn't qualify for the playoffs. In 2025, he defeated Joseph Luciano and Masayuki Kikuiri en route to the fight vs. Jean.

UFC 319 'Embedded,' No. 2: Dricus Du Plessis takes in Michael Jordan's banners

The UFC is back in the "Windy City" for the first time in more than six years for UFC 319, its ninth pay-per-view of the calendar year, and the popular "Embedded" fight week video series is here to document what's happening behind the scenes. UFC 319 (pay-per-view, ESPN, ESPN+) takes place Saturday at United Center in Chicago. In the headliner, middleweight champion Dricus Du Plessis (23-2 MMA, 9-0 UFC) puts his title on the line for the third time when he meets unbeaten – and favored – challenger Khamzat Chimaev (14-0 MMA, 8-0 UFC). In addition, wrestling standout Aaron Pico (13-4 MMA, 0-0 UFC) makes his highly anticipated UFC debut after years in Bellator when he takes on unbeaten featherweight Lerone Murphy (16-0-1 MMA, 8-0-1 UFC) in the co-main event. Plus, the popular Michael Page (23-3 MMA, 2-1 UFC) meets former middleweight title challenger Jared Cannonier (18-8 MMA, 11-8 UFC) and more in the home of the Bulls and Blackhawks. The second episode of "Embedded" follows the headliners and featured fighters while they get ready for fight week. Here is the UFC's description of the episode from YouTube: Champ Dricus Du Plessis visits a famous Al Capone site before taking in the United Center atmosphere; Aaron Pico arrives in Chicago for his first UFC Fight Week; Lerone Murphy has a boxing session; Kai Asakura relaxes for a day at the sauna; Carlos Prates visits his mom; Khamzat Chimaev walks through Chicago; Michael 'Venom' Page has a striking session. Thad Jean targets Cedric Doumbe following 2025 PFL championship win

Thad Jean has set his sights on one of the most dangerous strikers in MMA after capturing the 2025 PFL welterweight title. Jean (11-0) is looking to throw down with former two-time Glory Kickboxing champion Cedric Doumbe. The interest comes on the heels of Jean's big win over Logan Storley to win the 2025 PFL welterweight tournament earlier this month in Atlantic City. Jean knows there are many top names wanting to take his unbeaten record, but out of all the contenders, Doumbe excites Jean the most. "I would love that Cedric Doumbe fight," Jean told MMA Junkie. "Personally, if it was up to me, I would definitely go that Cedric Doumbe route first. I've been looking at him for a while now actually." Doumbe has also shown interest in the fight with some recent comments on social media. Jean wouldn't mind visiting France to fight in enemy territory. His only request is the timeline. "If they're talking about December, then yeah, I'll do it," Jean explained. "If they're talking about anything closer, I'm not going to do it. I'm just going to take a little break. I'm not trying to damage my kidneys with the weight cut because two weight cuts within five months, it's a bit much for the kidneys. If it's in December, I'm taking it, let's go. If we're going to Paris, let's go to Paris. If they're coming over here (South Florida), let's do it." Jean burst onto the MMA scene earlier this year. He was a relatively unknown prospect at the start of 2025, but a knockout win over Mukhamed Berkhamov, a decision win over former Bellator champion Jason Jackson, and the title-winning performance over Storley put Jean on the map as one of the more exciting fighters in the PFL today. Although it might seem that a lot has changed, it's business as usual for Jean. "Not for me personally, but I feel like it did for those around me and those who are skeptical on the outside looking it," Jean said. "I mean, it did help my confidence when it comes to going against just a wrestler itself. Logan Storley is a really good pressure wrestler, and for me to go out and be able to be as calm as I was, and fight the fight that I did for all five rounds definitely played me personally with going back into the training room, 'Ok, this is how I have to improve. This is what I can do.' So, yeah, it definitely set me up for the future skill wise, but for people on the outside looking in I feel like they're noticing, 'Oh, yeah. He's just starting out in his career, and he's now 11-0, he's beaten two world champions, and the sky is the limit. Where is this kid going to go? He can go wherever he wants to.' "That's exactly what it is: I can go wherever I want to, and I'm just going to keep going up."
