Grinzinger Moon makes city debut to continue winning streak that began in Towong maiden
A winning streak that started at Towong in March will go on the line at Caulfield on Saturday.
Wangaratta trainer Ben Brisbourne will test Grinzinger Moon in the Catanach's Jewellers Handicap (1200m) after four straight wins either side of the Murray River.
Grinzinger Moon went fairly in two unplaced runs in the spring but Brisbourne said a natural change of tactics in two February jumpouts was the catalyst for the three-year-old's winning run.

'I always trained her as a horse that would get over 14(00m) or a mile and I spent six months teaching her to relax behind horses and pick them up as my horses race,' Brisbourne said.
'She had a couple of starts last prep that were pass marks so I put her away and brought her back in.
'In her first jumpout, she jumped so well from the barriers and put herself in a forward position.
'Normally, when mine do that, they would be half weak in the finish but she found two more gears and looked really impressive.
'We thought, 'well, she obviously wanted to do it that way' so we trained her that way.'
Wins at Benalla and Yarra Valley preceded a minor setback when the filly developed a foot abscess, which required a short break.
The daughter of Puissance De Lune returned with a strong win at Albury on May 16.
Brisbourne noted all of Grinzinger Moon's wins were against older horses.
• Femminile chasing Derby double in new colours
'I think her times have matched up wherever she's gone and (owner) John Wheeler has just let me take her through the grades to teach her to be a winner,' Brisbourne said.
'She's stepped up every time.
'Though she's a three-year-old filly, she's gone up against the older horses.
'This will be the first time she will be in a handicap against her own age group.
'She's got a good running style for that track and I'm pretty happy with how the race has come up.'
Grinzinger Moon is a $13 chance in early betting on the Catanach's Jewellers Handicap.

Melbourne Cup plans grow for US stayer Parchment Party
Don't miss out on the headlines from Horse Racing. Followed categories will be added to My News. Melbourne Cup-qualified American stayer Parchment Party has boosted potential Flemington claims with a second stakes win in New York. The Pin Oak Stud-owned four-year-old son of Constitution, trained by Bill Mott, on Thursday (AEST) won the Listed Birdstone Stakes (2800m) at Saratoga. Parchment Party won a Melbourne Cup golden ticket in June with a victory in the Group 3 Belmont Gold Cup Invitational (2800m). SUBSCRIBE NOW! Owner Dana Bernhard, of Pin Oak Stud, told the Saratoga Live broadcast 'it's our plan' when asked about possible Melbourne spring carnival participation. Pin Oak Stud-owned World Beater, trained by Mott's son Riley, coincidently won the Cox Plate-qualifying Group 1 Saratoga Derby Invitational last week. The interest in two horses qualified for Australia's biggest races could sweeten the cost and logistics to travel from the US to Melbourne via quarantine at Newmarket, UK. 'We're leaning in that (Melbourne) direction,' Bill Mott told Saratoga Live. 'We're trying to make all the early plans that we need to make.' Parchment Party could become the first US-trained horse to start in the Melbourne Cup. Five US-bred horses have won a Melbourne Cup with French-trained Australian-owned Americain the most recent in 2010. Victoria Racing Club chief racing officer Leigh Jordon welcomed Parchment Party's progress. 'It was great to see Parchment Party win the Birdstone Stakes and the excitement from the ownership group following the race,' Jordon said. 'They are currently looking at travel options for the horse and the prospect of Parchment Party becoming the first American-trained horse to run in the Lexus Melbourne Cup has created an incredible buzz. 'We're proud to have strengthened our relationship with the New York Racing Association by making the Belmont Gold Cup a golden ticket into the Lexus Melbourne Cup. It is part of the (VRC's) ongoing commitment to growing the international reach of the race and build meaningful relationships across the world.' Top sports doctor reveals concerning concussion timeline for Aussie codes
Don't miss out on the headlines from AFL. Followed categories will be added to My News. One of Australia's leading sports doctors suspects combating the full extent of concussion remains 'years and years' away. Dr Peter Harcourt was inducted into the Sport Australia Hall of Fame on Thursday after 40 years of medical service. He oversaw seven Olympic Games and spent time in the AFL and at Basketball Australia tackling the biggest medical hurdles. Harcourt says concussion remains one of the top challenges in world sport and while Australia's football codes have made progress, 'there's still a long way to go'. 'Concussion is the big one at the moment and I think sport is making some pretty big progress,' Harcourt said. 'Certainly, you can see that in the way the game is being played in AFL and in NRL and other competitions like that. 'I think understanding exactly the full depth of it and the mechanisms of it, prevention, the treatment, there's still a long way to go. 'This is going to take years and years to pull it apart and understand what the risks are and how you actually combat that.' Dr Peter Harcourt AM was inducted into the Sport Australia Hall of Fame on Thursday at the MCG. Picture: Hamish Blair Several AFL players, including premiership stars Jeremy McGovern and Angus Brayshaw, have been medically retired due to concussion in recent seasons. Cronulla Sharks co-captain Dane Finucane also last year retired following advice from medical professionals. Harcourt said the awareness of long-term damage had prompted players and sporting clubs to change the narrative around head knocks. 'There's no holding back organisations these days in terms of tackling something that is really critical for the welfare of their athletes,' he said. 'The way we managed it 40 years ago was it was a self-limiting condition that would fully resolve – that's the way you thought about it. 'These days obviously you don't because you're worried about the long-term risks associated with that sort of trauma. 'I think the culture in the player groups has changed in that they will come forward and tell you when they're not well. 'There's been a lot of awareness. I'm not saying that it wouldn't happen (hiding concussions), but I think it's much less than what might've happened 10-15 years ago.' Port Macquarie best bets, inside mail for Friday, August 8, 2025
Racenet and The Daily Telegraph form analyst Shayne O'Cass provides his best bets and race-by-race analysis at Port Macquarie on Thursday. â– â– â– â– â– PORT MACQUARIE TIPS BEST BET Race 5 No.16: REAL MAGIC Kiwi filly who ran well on debut; spelled, and has been trialling up rather nicely. NEXT BEST Always goes out there and gives her best. Fit, just need the breaks. VALUE BET Race 4 No.4: KITSILANO Neat return, step up in trip suits. Won't be a maiden for much longer. BEST EXOTIC Race 5 quinella Nos.14, 16 QUADDIE Race 5: 14,16 Race 6: 3,6,7 Race 7: 2,4,10,14 Race 8: 1,4,6,7,8 JOCKEY TO FOLLOW Luke Rolls will be popular, as always, in the TAB Jockeys Challenge LAY OF THE DAY Race 2 No.1: MEGA FIGHT â– â– â– â– â– PORT MACQUARIE INSIDE MAIL RACE 1: COUNTRY BOOSTED MAIDEN HANDICAP (1100m) KINGS CUP (1) drew 11, which is probably one of the reasons why Paul Snowden accepted for Newcastle on Saturday. Such was the impressive nature of his Gosford trial, Kings Cup could very well win either race. SHE'S A WILD ONE (6) has the race experience and thus the race fitness edge having finished second at Moree first-up to a moderately handy type. VOLARE (12) has a ''bad' draw but ''good'' talent. BET: KINGS CUP to win, or if scratched, She's A Wild One to win RACE 2: BENCHMARK 58 HANDICAP (1800m) HEART OF PLATINUM (6) has raced 13 times for a win and five placings, Two placings are here at home (from four runs) and she was third at her only track/trip start. Gets back and runs on so will always need the perfectly timed finish – but no doubt about her ability. One could imagine BOLD SPLENDOR (9) getting up on the speed here and given her fitness, she could just stick on. BET: HEART OF PLATINUM to win, exacta 6 to beat 9. RACE 3: COUNTRY BOOSTED CLASS 3 HANDICAP (1500m) SHOW 'EM HOWL (2) has got Country Championships written all over him. He is in an astute stable up there with Robert Agnew and really was quite incredible in the way he won a 58 here at his only run at home thus far. Ran two ripper races in Sydney and deserves a bit of forgiveness for the $1.60 loss at Taree. SUPREME COMMAND (1) is a 65 rater who gets to go around with 57.5kg after the claim. Ran fourth to Bodhi By last start. CLUEDO (3) has barrier two and Aaron Bullock. BET: SHOW 'EM HOWL to win. KITSILANO (4) is a 19-start maiden but this could be the day for the son of Vancouver. To be fair, he has placed four times and a lot of the outcome has been decided by his pattern, that is, he often gets back but usually finds the line with a bit of purpose. Terrible draw but has Ben Looker on. KHANT FAIL (9) has placed at five of her 11 starts; all of them were for John Sargent. First run here for Neil Godbolt. Has to be respected. THE FINAL SAY (13) is back to country racing today. BET: KITSILANO to win, quinella 4, 9. RACE 5: MAIDEN PLATE (1200m) REAL MAGIC (16) was a tad unlucky on debut behind Gerry Harvey's handy horse, Chidiac, back on December 10. Failed here the next time, spelled, and has come back and trialled very well indeed. The Per Incanto breed only get better as time goes by and she might be one that has and will. TAPAGAL (14) is an epic blue blood being by Capitalist out of Fast And Sexy. Trials have been OK to varying degrees. Will get every chance from barrier three and Winona Costin riding. BET: REAL MAGIC to win. RACE 6: F&M BENCHMARK 58 HANDICAP (1200m) GOT THE SMARTS (3) is an above average mare with a record of one win, three seconds and a third from her nine starts. One thing we know about her is that she has a powerful finish and that she has been dealt some pretty ordinary draws in her time. Has talent beyond country racing. ALL TOO WILD (2) is the logical danger, perhaps even the one to beat if she comes. That's a big if. Five-year-old mare TROIS (6) was impressive winning her debut at Tamworth on July 18. BET: GOT THE SMARTS to win. VALENTINO PRINCE (14) is dropping back to country grade after a long stretch of most unsuccessful runs at the provincials. That said, he doesn't run too many really bad or poor races, he could still bob up and win one at Newcastle or wherever but for now, it does seem like a good idea to drop him in class and build up some confidence. OAKFIELD PLUTO (10) won on debut with Aaron Bullock on from gate two. Bullock on again, only this time it is barrier 3. BET: VALENTINO PRINCE each-way, box quinella 2, 4, 10, 14. VEECEE (4) could be in Sydney for the Highway on Saturday but maybe the heavy rain will keep him at home and he runs here instead. That's not to say he is a duffer, time will tell. If he is absent, Veecee's jockey Luke Rolls might win the race anyway via Tony Ball's pretty reliable gelding TELEGRAPH (8). The now seven-year-old has a decent set of numbers right across the board, including a track/trip record of one win and two thirds from five goes.
