Ministry of Culture Expands Maha Gamil's Aswan Gold Murals Nationwide

The Ministry of Culture has adopted Maha Gamil's Aswan Gold mural project, expanding the urban art initiative to governorates beyond Aswan. Aug 20, 2025 Maha Gamil, the Aswan-based street artist whose vibrant murals have recently gone viral, has been commissioned by Egypt's Ministry of Culture to lead a nationwide public art campaign. The initiative, inspired by Gamil's collaborative work with her husband, Ali Abdelfattah, and their celebrated 'Aswan Gold' murals, aims to bring locally rooted, large-scale urban art to cities across the country. The Ministry of Culture announced that it will adopt the project to beautify urban facades and highlight Egyptian identity, with plans to expand it across the governorates. Minister of Culture Dr. Ahmed Fouad Hano emphasised that the initiative will focus on tourist destinations, allowing each region to showcase its unique heritage. Gamil's artistic journey began in 2011 while she was a Fine Arts student. Defying societal norms that discouraged women from painting public walls, she began working under the cover of night, supported by friends as lookouts. Her breakthrough came when locals defended her early work, affirming its value within the community.

Ketamine Queen' to Plead Guilty in Matthew Perry's Death

Yara Sameh Jasveen Sangha, known as the 'Ketamine Queen,' has accepted a guilty plea in connection with the overdose death of 'Friends' star Matthew Perry. Sangha, 42, will plead guilty to five counts, including a count of distributing ketamine that led to a person's death, as well as a charge of maintaining a 'drug involved' premises. She faces at least 11 years in prison at her sentencing, which is expected to be held sometime in the coming months. Sangha is the last of five defendants to plead guilty in connection with Perry's death. The late actor was found dead at his home in October 2023. Sangha has been in federal custody since August 2024 and was due to go on trial in Los Angeles on September 23. Perry's doctor, Salvador Plasencia, agreed in June to plead guilty to supplying him with ketamine, though not with the fatal dose. Three other defendants — Erik Fleming, Kenneth Iwamasa and Mark Chavez — previously agreed to plead guilty to conspiracy to supply ketamine. According to prosecutors, Sangha and Fleming supplied Iwamasa, who was Perry's assistant, with 51 vials of ketamine shortly before the actor's death. Iwamasa then injected Perry, leading to his death. After learning of Perry's death, Sangha allegedly sought to cover her tracks, instructing Fleming to "delete all our messages.' Federal authorities raided Sangha's home in North Hollywood in March 2024 and found 79 vials of liquid ketamine. They also discovered MDMA tablets, counterfeit Xanax pills, and a gold money counting machine among other drug paraphernalia, according to the plea agreement. As part of the plea, Sangha also admitted to supplying ketamine to Cody McLaury in August 2019. McLaury, 33, died of an overdose hours later. read more New Tourism Route To Launch in Old Cairo Ahmed El Sakka-Led Play 'Sayidati Al Jamila' to Be Staged in KSA on Dec. 6 Mandy Moore Joins Season 2 of "Dr. Death" Anthology Series Don't Miss These Movies at 44th Cairo Int'l Film Festival Today Amr Diab to Headline KSA's MDLBEAST Soundstorm 2022 Festival Arts & Culture Mai Omar Stuns in Latest Instagram Photos Arts & Culture "The Flash" to End with Season 9 Arts & Culture Ministry of Culture Organizes four day Children's Film Festival Arts & Culture Canadian PM wishes Muslims Eid-al-Adha Videos & Features Story behind Trending Jessica Radcliffe Death Video News Israeli-Linked Hadassah Clinic in Moscow Treats Wounded Iranian IRGC Fighters Arts & Culture "Jurassic World Rebirth" Gets Streaming Date News China Launches Largest Ever Aircraft Carrier News Ayat Khaddoura's Final Video Captures Bombardment of Beit Lahia Business Egyptian Pound Undervalued by 30%, Says Goldman Sachs Videos & Features Tragedy Overshadows MC Alger Championship Celebration: One Fan Dead, 11 Injured After Stadium Fall Arts & Culture South Korean Actress Kang Seo-ha Dies at 31 after Cancer Battle Lifestyle Get to Know 2025 Eid Al Adha Prayer Times in Egypt News The Jessica Radcliffe Orca Attack? 100% Fake and AI-Generated

AUC CELEBRATES THE GRADUATION OF THE INAUGURAL COHORT OF EGYPT'S FIRST FILM INDUSTRY BUSINESS CERTIFICATE

Basant Ahmed The American University in Cairo's (AUC) School of Continuing Education (SCE) announced the graduation of the first cohort of the Film Industry Business Certificate, launched this summer in partnership with the international Silver Screen Film School in Romania. The program is the first of its kind in Egypt which provides hands-on training in production, marketing, budgeting, distribution and film financing, equipping participants with the business skills needed to succeed in today's rapidly evolving film industry. Courses were taught by award-winning filmmakers and producers from Silver Screen Film School alongside AUC business experts. 'The certificate bridges a long-standing gap in film education, merging creativity with the vital business skills needed to thrive in the film industry,' said Mahmoud Allam, dean of SCE. 'We're proud to introduce a program that speaks directly to the needs of aspiring filmmakers, producers, marketers and entrepreneurs across the region. This collaboration is a strong example of how SCE continues to connect education to emerging market needs.' Participants in the inaugural cohort included aspiring producers, marketers and creative entrepreneurs. They learned and received training on how to pitch projects, manage financing, navigate distribution and build personal brands using AI tools. Speaking about their experience and why did they pick this program, several graduates noted that it was unique and different because it does not focus only on the creative and artistic side, but teaches film students how to turn ideas into real projects. Yasmine Waali, filmmaker and a graduate of the program, said, 'When I heard about the certificate, I was really excited. I had studied filmmaking, but never learned the business side formally. I picked it up through experience at festivals and production houses. As filmmakers, we truly need this knowledge.' Similarly, Rehab Elghatrifi, a TV director and another graduate of the program noted, 'The organizers were incredibly supportive, and the mentors — especially in production, marketing and film distribution — exceeded my expectations. You truly brought in the best people, and they shared their knowledge so generously.' Mariam Hamdy '06, '14, co-founder of the Silver Screen Film School alongside Octavian Dăncilă, a Romanian senior film programmer noted that the program is designed not just for emerging talent, but also for anyone who didn't previously have access to this kind of specialized film education, whether they're shifting careers or reigniting a passion. Hamdy added that the program aims to fill a gap in the market and respond to a growing niche within the film industry. 'This program is designed to combine world-class mentorship from both Silver Screen and SCE's strength in applied learning and professional development,' said Doaa Salem, senior director of outreach and partnerships at AUC's SCE. "We see this certificate as the first step in building a stronger, more resilient film ecosystem, and we're committed to supporting its continued growth.' read more Gold prices rise, 21 Karat at EGP 3685 NATO's Role in Israeli-Palestinian Conflict US Expresses 'Strong Opposition' to New Turkish Military Operation in Syria Shoukry Meets Director-General of FAO Lavrov: confrontation bet. nuclear powers must be avoided News Iran Summons French Ambassador over Foreign Minister Remarks News Aboul Gheit Condemns Israeli Escalation in West Bank News Greek PM: Athens Plays Key Role in Improving Energy Security in Region News One Person Injured in Explosion at Ukrainian Embassy in Madrid Videos & Features Story behind Trending Jessica Radcliffe Death Video News Israeli-Linked Hadassah Clinic in Moscow Treats Wounded Iranian IRGC Fighters Arts & Culture "Jurassic World Rebirth" Gets Streaming Date News China Launches Largest Ever Aircraft Carrier News Ayat Khaddoura's Final Video Captures Bombardment of Beit Lahia Business Egyptian Pound Undervalued by 30%, Says Goldman Sachs Videos & Features Tragedy Overshadows MC Alger Championship Celebration: One Fan Dead, 11 Injured After Stadium Fall Arts & Culture South Korean Actress Kang Seo-ha Dies at 31 after Cancer Battle Lifestyle Get to Know 2025 Eid Al Adha Prayer Times in Egypt News The Jessica Radcliffe Orca Attack? 100% Fake and AI-Generated
