A husband and daughter sustained stab injuries in the Icelandic capital on Saturday
A French woman has been arrested in Iceland after her husband and daughter, both residents of Ireland, were found stabbed to death in their hotel room in Reykjavik, Icelandic national broadcaster, RUV, have said.
The family had French citizenship but had been living in Ireland. The husband and daughter were found dead in their hotel room on the fourth floor at around 7am on Saturday by a staff member. They had both received stab wounds, RUV said.
A woman was also found alive and had also sustained stab wounds. She was brought to Landspitali University Hospital, the main national hospital, which is located in the capital. She then appeared in Reykjavik District Court on Saturday, and was remanded in custody until Friday, June 20.
The woman, aged in her late 50s, her husband, who was also in his late 50s, and their daughter, who was around 30 years of age, travelled from Dublin to Iceland on Saturday June 7, with return flights booked for the following Saturday.
The incident occurred at the Edition Hotel in Reykjavik.
Ævar Pálmi Pálmason, deputy chief superintendent of the Reykjavík Metropolitan Police's central division, is leading the investigation.
He said that the Metropolitan Police has contacted the French embassy in order to make contact with the relatives of the deceased.
He added: 'We are also in contact with French police authorities, who have so far shown no interest in travelling to Iceland, though that cannot be ruled out.'
The deputy chief superintendent declined to comment on how the woman sustained her injuries.
Police have also said that the period of detention may be extended when she appears in court again, but could not comment on what charges may be brought.
The Department of Foreign of Affairs has been contacted for comment.
