Orlando Pirates lead tributes to Tendai 'Fire' Ndoro

The football communities of South Africa and Zimbabwe are in mourning following the death of former Orlando Pirates and Zimbabwe Warriors striker Tendai 'Fire' Ndoro, who passed away in Johannesburg at the age of 40.
Ndoro, who lit up the Premier Soccer League (PSL) with his pace, flair, and clinical finishing, died on Monday after a long battle with illness, including diabetes and a recent tumour diagnosis.
Best known for his time at Orlando Pirates between 2015 and 2017, Ndoro became a fan favourite with his trademark sharp eye for goal.
His standout season came in 2016/17, when he scored 12 league goals, narrowly missing out on the Golden Boot to Cape Town City's Lebogang Manyama.
Orlando Pirates led the flood of tributes on social media, stating: 'Orlando Pirates are deeply saddened to learn of the passing of our former striker, Tendai Ndoro… We extend heartfelt condolences to his family, friends, and loved ones during this difficult time.'
Nicknamed 'Fire', Ndoro was found dead at his apartment in Sandton, Johannesburg.
He had reportedly been hospitalised in Durban in recent weeks due to health complications.
His sudden death has stunned former team-mates, fans, and clubs across the continent.
Ndoro began his professional career with Chicken Inn FC in Zimbabwe's Castle Lager Premier Soccer League, where his goal-scoring prowess caught the eye of scouts in South Africa.
He moved to Mpumalanga Black Aces, before sealing a high-profile switch to Orlando Pirates.
He later featured for Ajax Cape Town and Highlands Park, finishing his PSL career with 112 appearances, 36 goals, and 12 assists.
Outside South Africa, Ndoro also played for Al-Faisaly in Saudi Arabia and Nico United in Botswana.
He earned nine caps for Zimbabwe, including representing the country at the 2017 Africa Cup of Nations in Gabon.
In a twist of fate, Ndoro was recently linked with a mentorship role at Eswatini First Division side Stumbo XI, hoping to inspire a younger generation.
Talks were reportedly ongoing when he passed away.
Fans have taken to social media to honour the man affectionately known as Fire, remembering his goals, humility, and passion for the sport.
'An unforeseen addition to the Angels and footballing Gods to look upon us this coming weekend! May his soul repose peacefully. Rest well, Buccaneer,' wrote one fan.
Tendai Ndoro's untimely death marks the end of a life and career that touched many across southern Africa.
He may be gone, but his fire on the pitch will never be forgotten. Post your condolences below, by …

Nasreddine Nabi on his way back to Kaizer Chiefs?

Kaizer Chiefs have defied the odds at the start of the 2025/26 Betway Premiership season, winning both of their opening fixtures despite the absence of head coach Nasreddine Nabi, who is currently in Tunisia due to a family emergency. Nabi's wife was reportedly injured in an accident at home, prompting his immediate return to Tunisia. In his absence, assistant coach Khalil Ben Youssef has taken charge of day-to-day operations. Despite the disruption, Kaizer Chiefs have looked sharp and organised – beating Stellenbosch FC in the opener and then Polokwane City, scoring three unanswered goals across both matches. Ben Youssef emphasised that Nabi remains actively involved, even from abroad. 'We are in contact every day. We prepare every session and every game together. Coach Nabi may not be physically here, but his presence is still felt in everything we do.' The team's technical staff, long accustomed to working closely together, has helped maintain tactical consistency. According to reports, Nabi is soon expected to begin the long journey back to South Africa and is expected to arrive before the end of the week. Kaizer Chiefs now sit top of the standings on goal difference, level on six points with Durban City, Marumo Gallants, and Sekhukhune United. The club will look to continue their early dominance when they host Richards Bay at FNB Stadium on Tuesday in their third league match of the season. Kick-off is at 19:30. Tickets for the Glamour Boys' second home match of the season are available online at and or Shoprite, USave and Checkers supermarkets at R60. Oscar Piastri to have Australian Grand Prix grandstand named after him

Oscar Piastri will have a grandstand named after him at the Australian Grand Prix from next year, an honour the McLaren driver said was 'surreal'. The Piastri Grandstand will sit opposite the pit lane at the Albert Park circuit in Melbourne, the home race of 24-year-old Piastri. 'It is pretty surreal, it still feels weird racing at home – it is very cool racing at home,' the world championship leader said on social media. Other notable drivers with stands at Albert Park include Jack Brabham, Arthur Waite, Alan Jones, Daniel Ricciardo and Mark Webber. Piastri currently tops the drivers' standings with 284 points, narrowly ahead of McLaren team-mate Lando Norris, with 10 grands prix left in this campaign. Australia hosts the first race of next season. The naming of a grandstand is an honour typically reserved for sporting legends with a long line of achievements. Former F1 driver Webber said it was a reflection of Piastri's promising results so far as he pursues a first world crown. 'Clearly he is very comfortable at the elite level and making his presence felt, which is brilliant, and representing Australia in the way that the country likes to be represented,' he said in a statement.
