Kali Uchis Kicks Off ‘Sincerely' Era With ‘Sunshine & Rain'
FilmMagic
The past two years have arguably been the most eventful in Kali Uchis' life and career. The Grammy-winning singer returned in 2023 with her third studio album Red Moon in Venus, and she kicked off 2024 in a big way with her fourth album Orquídeas and the birth of her first child two months later.
Now, Uchis is laying the groundwork for her next album Sincerely, marking a third straight year where the 'Telepatía' singer will be releasing a full-length project. To give fans a taste of the upcoming LP, she's released 'Sunshine & Rain…' as the lead single from the album.
The song is a tender ode to a loved one in her life, presumably a lover like her partner Don Toliver, though her love has also been overflowing for her baby son over the past year. The heartfelt track opens with a home video audio snippet of Uchis' mother wishing her a good morning as the Colombian crooner serenades someone close to her in her life. 'Through sunshine and rain, as seasons change / We all need somebody that makes the Earth feel heavenly / Maybe I'll be that somebody 'cause you're that someone to me,' she sings on the chorus.
With Sincerely being her first album as a mother and her debut with Capitol Records, the project in many ways marks the beginning of a new chapter for Uchis. 'I have boundless gratitude for my silent ascent throughout the years and am very much looking forward to what's next," she remarked of the label move earlier this month, per Stereogum. She went on to hint at the album's focus on her personal world and home life in a social media video announcing the album's release. 'I dream of a home that even time will lie down and be still for; a place where everything works out the way it should,' she mused.
Sincerely is set for release May 9.

Lil Nas X arrested, hospitalized after reports of possible overdose, police say
Lil Nas X was hospitalized after his arrest in Los Angeles. The "Old Town Road" rapper, 26, and two-time Grammy winner – whose real name is Montero Lamar Hill – was arrested just after 6 a.m. on Thursday, Aug. 21, according to Los Angeles Sheriffs Department inmate records. In a statement to USA TODAY, the Los Angeles Police Department said that around 6 a.m., officers responded to the 11100 block of Ventura Blvd. for a man walking in the street. Upon arriving, police said "the suspect charged at officers and was taken into custody." The department did not confirm the identity of the man in the statement. "He was transported to a local hospital for a possible overdose and placed under arrest for battery on a police officer," the statement continued. USA TODAY reached out to reps for Lil Nas X for comment. The social media sensation's Instagram page has also been scrubbed except for 11 posts. One of Hollywood's most high-profile LGBTQ+ stars in the music industry, known for his eccentric forms of music promotion and signature humor, Lil Nas X has receded from the heights of his past superstardom in recent years. Lil Nas X jokes from hospital bed amid face paralysis: 'I can't even laugh right' In 2018, he broke out with his popular country-tinged single "Old Town Road" after dropping out of college. The track featured a buzzy remix with genre patriarch Billy Ray Cyrus, and the collaboration later became the longest-running No. 1 song in Billboard Hot 100 history. Two other Hot 100 No. 1s followed, "Industry Baby" with fellow rapper Jack Harlow and the solo "Montero (Call Me by Your Name)." The singer released his aptly-titled debut album "Montero" in 2021. He recently released the EP "Days Before Dreamboy" in late March, ahead of the release of his upcoming second studio album "Dreamboy," which is expected to drop later this year. He also boasts 11 career Grammy nominations. But earlier this year, the "That's What I Want" hitmaker faced health struggles. He posted an Instagram video of himself from a hospital bed late in April, telling his followers he "lost control of the right side" of his face. "This is me doing a full smile by the way," he said in the video, laughing in disbelief. "I can't even laugh right, bro. Oh my God!" He then joked about his condition on his Instagram stories, but assured fans he was OK. "Stop being sad for me!" he wrote. "Imma look funny for a lil bit but that's it," he said, adding crying emojis. Contributing: Taijuan Moorman, USA TODAY

Fivio Foreign Says He ‘Can't Say a Nas Bar' Despite Them Having a Song Together
The Jim Jones vs. Nas debate—started by Capo himself—continues. On Sunday (Aug. 17), Jones debuted his new podcast, Artist 2 Artist, where he sat down with New York rapper Fivio Foreign. At one point, Jones brought up fellow New Yorker Nas, which prompted Fivio to share his own take on the venerated Queens artist. 'I'm not saying that the man is wack, he's not a legend,' Fivio said at around the 46:30 minute mark. 'I got a song with the n***a—I got a song on the album and the album got a Grammy. But I can't sit there and say a Nas bar to you or a song.' He then proceeded to name a song. 'I like 'One Mic,'' he said, referencing the 2001 Stillmatic album cut. 'I understand. That's what I want the people to know—but I can 'cause Nas was my era. … I came up fucking with Nas. I know the Nas shit. … But moving forward, I started a whole new era in a whole new genre and a generation of people. I just be doing me.' The discourse surrounding Capo and Nas began in late June, when Jones appeared on Fat Joe and Jadakiss' podcast and boasted about his achievements. 'They forget, I got a hell of a catalog. Gold records, platinum records. ... Check my track record. Then check everybody else track record," he said. "If you want to go to the Billboard entries, pull up Nas' Billboard entries and pull up my Billboard entries." Jones, as a solo artist, has had two of his songs reach the Billboard Hot 100, one of which made it into the Top 10. Nas has 27 Hot 100 entries and two Top 10 hits — though in Jones' defense, Nas was a featured artist, not the primary one, on both of them, while Jones was the sole artist on his No. 5 hit, 2006's "We Fly High." Jones has nine albums that have charted on the Billboard 200 albums chart, while Nas has 24. Of Nas' entries on the album chart, 16 landed in the Top 10, and six reached No. 1. The Jim Jones/Nas debate continued days after the Dipset capo's initial statement. On Shannon Sharpe and Chad "Ochocinco" Johnson's podcast, Nightcap, Sharpe challenged Jones. 'Were you smoking when you said you were better than Nas?' Sharpe asked, which prompted Jones to declare that he's 'way more influential than Nas.' Jones was once again asked about the comparison on the BagFuel podcast, where he said he made Nas go 'viral.' Jones added, 'He's never been talked about like this ever in his life." As Fivio pointed out, he and ASAP Ferg appeared on Nas' song 'Spicy' from his 2020 album, King's Disease, which won the Grammy for Best Rap Album in 2021. Fivio also recently hopped on Jones' 2024 song, 'Cinema,' alongside Dyce Payso and Keen Streetz.
