Yayasan Peneraju Launches YPXLR8, Targets 1,000 Bumiputera In Tech Careers
KUALA LUMPUR, May 15 (Bernama) -- Yayasan Peneraju (YP) today launched its latest strategic initiative, YPXLR8 (YP Accelerate), which targets the participation of 1,000 Bumiputera individuals in technology-based careers.
According to YP, the programme provided an opportunity for those working in non-technology sectors to switch careers through a place-and-train approach to meet the country's demand for a skilled digital workforce.
'Each selected participant will receive financial support of RM1,500 per month for eight months throughout the programme. They will also receive a one-off training credit of RM9,000 to ensure they receive the necessary training,' YP said in a statement today.
Economy Minister Datuk Seri Mohd Rafizi Ramli, in the same statement, said YPXLR8 was a proactive measure to empower Bumiputera talent and support national policies such as the Malaysia Digital Economy Plan and the Fourth Industrial Revolution (4IR) policy.
He said that the launch of YPXLR8 was timely, as digital transformation had become the key driver of change in the global job market.
'If we want Malaysia to keep progressing in adopting AI innovations, the Bumiputera workforce must be equipped with the latest technology skills to meet market demands and remain competitive,' said Rafizi.
Meanwhile, YP chief executive officer Ibrahim Sani said the programme created opportunities for Bumiputeras without a technology background to enter the digital economy through industry training and employment.
'Participants will undergo industry-relevant training through at least eight months of employment with a host company or in a permanent role, where they can develop essential skills through mentorship and hands-on experience,' he said in the same statement.
YP is currently identifying industry partners across various sectors to serve as host companies, offering job and training opportunities to participants in fields such as digital analytics, cybersecurity, business intelligence, and related areas.

Uncertainties over US interest rates will likely see the ringgit trade around RM4.20-4.22 this week
KUALA LUMPUR (Bernama): The ringgit is expected to hover between RM4.20 and RM4.22 this week as traders and investors remain cautious over the trajectory of US interest rates. Bank Muamalat Malaysia Bhd chief economist Dr Mohd Afzanizam Abdul Rashid said the release of the US Federal Open Market Committee (FOMC) meeting minutes next Thursday, Aug 20 (Wednesday, Aug 19, in the US) could offer more clarity on the state of the US economy, particularly after two FOMC members dissented from the recent decision and favoured a 25-basis-point rate cut. Meanwhile, Kenanga Investment Bank Bhd said that markets continued to swing between two and three US Federal Reserve (Fed) cuts over the past few weeks. "We maintain our base case for two, underpinned by evidence that firms are absorbing tariff costs, a trend that is unsustainable and likely to squeeze margins,' it said in a research note. Moreover, the investment bank said further easing would require either a major deterioration in the next jobs report or a significantly dovish tone from Fed chair Jerome Powell. "Hence, we expect the ringgit to range around RM4.22 to RM4.23 against the greenback in the near term,' it added. On Thursday, the ringgit appreciated to the 4.18 level against the US dollar, its strongest level in more than six weeks. The last time it reached a similar high was on July 1, when it hit 4.1805. Meanwhile, on a Friday-to-Friday basis, the ringgit ended the week higher against the greenback, closing at 4.2085/2155 versus 4.2420/2480 previously. The local note traded mostly higher against a basket of major currencies. The ringgit appreciated vis-à-vis the Japanese yen to 2.8653/8702 from 2.8720/8763 the previous week and rose versus the euro to 4.9185/9267 from 4.9381/9451, but declined against the British pound to 5.7050/7145 from 5.7034/7114 The ringgit also trended firmer against Asean currencies. The local note improved against the Singapore dollar to 3.2820/2877 from 3.3014/3064 at the end of last week, inched up versus the Thai baht to 12.9760/13.0032 from 13.1173/1419, gained versus the Indonesian rupiah to 260.2/260.8 from 260.3/260.8 and strengthened against the Philippine peso to 7.37/7.39 from 7.43/7.44 in the preceding week. - Bernama

On the rise: Bursa Malaysia expected to move upwards to the 1,590 level this week
KUALA LUMPUR (Bernama): Bursa Malaysia is expected to rise this week towards the 1,590 resistance level, contingent on supportive global risk sentiment and incremental clarity over semiconductor tariff trajectories, said an analyst. UOB Kay Hian Wealth Advisors Sdn Bhd head of investment research Mohd Sedek Jantan said that given the weekend timing of the meeting between US President Donald Trump and Russian President Vladimir Putin, Malaysia's equity market will absorb any geopolitical repricing effects when trading resumes next week. "Domestically, the investment narrative will be shaped by further disclosures on the 13th Malaysia Plan (13MP) project allocations, while the approach of Budget 2026 -- now under two months away -- will heighten focus on stakeholder engagement sessions as potential precursors to fiscal policy direction ahead of the Prime Minister's parliamentary tabling,' he told Bernama. On the inflation front, Mohd Sedek said Malaysia's July Consumer Price Index (CPI), due for release on Friday, Aug 22, will offer the first high-frequency read on the pass-through impact of the broadened Sales and Service Tax (SST) regime. "We project headline CPI at 1.2 to 1.3 per cent year-on-year, up from 1.1 per cent in June, with core inflation expected to remain contained,' he said. Globally, Mohd Sedek said, investor attention is set to converge on Wednesday's release of the Federal Open Market Committee minutes and the Jackson Hole Symposium (Aug 21-23) -- both considered potential catalysts for repricing policy-rate expectations if a pivot narrative gains momentum. "Pre-Jackson Hole signalling from Washington has intensified, with the Trump administration adopting a more assertive communications posture than the Federal Reserve's (Fed) measured, data-dependent stance. "Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent has escalated his call from a 50-basis-point cut to a cumulative 150-basis-point reduction, amplifying political pressure on the Fed. "This shift, combined with personnel changes at the Bureau of Labor Statistics and the nomination of dovish candidates to the Federal Reserve Board, reflects a coordinated strategy to influence Fed chair Jerome Powell's policy trajectory,' he said. He added that any eventual dovish recalibration could be positioned domestically as both a political and macroeconomic victory, reinforcing the administration's narrative of executive influence over monetary normalisation. On a weekly basis, the FTSE Bursa Malaysia KLCI rose 19.36 points to 1,576.34 on Friday from 1,556.98 a week earlier. The FBM Emas Index gained 129.27 points to 11,731.06, the FBMT 100 Index climbed 132.95 points to 11,512.86, the FBM Emas Shariah Index added 20.67 points to 11,654.85, the FBM 70 Index improved 155.15 points to 16,660.68, and the FBM ACE Index advanced 106.57 points to 4,713.45. By sector, the Financial Services Index rose 499.25 points to 18,080.07, the Plantation Index increased 77.91 points to 7,504.03, and the Energy Index went up 4.11 points to 740.83. Weekly turnover dropped to 11.10 billion units worth RM11.87 billion from 12.65 billion units worth RM11.65 billion in the previous week. The Main Market volume shrank to 7.16 billion units valued at RM11.06 billion compared with 7.66 billion units valued at RM10.61 billion previously. Warrants turnover declined to 3.37 billion units worth RM453.56 million from 3.62 billion units worth RM508.07 million in the preceding week. The weekly ACE Market volume grew to 1.64 billion units valued at RM593.87 million versus 1.37 billion units valued at RM529.84 million previously. - Bernama TAGS:
