Govt notifies rules to strengthen Armed Forces' joint command
New Delhi: The Centre government has notified the rules under the Inter-Services Organisations (Command, Control and Discipline) Act 2023, which enable greater jointness and Command efficiency in the Armed Forces.
The rules formulated under the Inter-Services Organisations (Command, Control and Discipline) Act 2023 have been notified through a gazette notification and have come into effect from May 27.
In a media release on Wednesday, the government said this significant step aims to bolster the effective command, control, and efficient functioning of Inter-Services Organisations (ISOs), thereby strengthening jointness among the Armed Forces.
The Bill for this was passed by both Houses -- Rajya Sabha and Lok Sabha -- of Parliament during the Monsoon Session of 2023.
It received the assent of the President on August 15, 2023, and the Act came into force with effect from May 10, 2024, as per the Gazette Notification dated May 08, 2024. Subsequently, the ISOs were notified through Gazette Notification No. SRO 72 dated December 27, 2024.
The Act empowers the Commanders-in-Chief and Officers-in-Command of the ISOs to exercise command and control over the service personnel serving under them, ensuring effective maintenance of discipline and administration within the organisations. This is achieved without altering the unique service conditions applicable to each branch of the Armed Forces.
The newly notified subordinate Rules, framed under Section 11 of the Act, are intended to facilitate the effective implementation of the provisions laid down in the legislation.
These Rules are a critical enabler for the functioning of the ISOs and establish a comprehensive framework for discipline, administrative control, and operational synergy.
With the notification of these Rules, the Act is now fully operational. This will empower the heads of the ISOs, enable the expeditious disposal of disciplinary cases, and help avoid the duplication of proceedings.

Trichy: MDMK principal secretary Durai Vaiko has expressed disappointment at party chief and his father, Vaiko , not being renominated as Rajya Sabha MP. However, he said at a press conference in Trichy on Friday that the party has chosen to move on for the larger interest of Tamil Nadu and well-being of the DMK-led alliance. Stating that Vaiko is the brand and identity of MDMK, Durai said they hope the DMK would compensate them for the 'disappointment' by treating MDMK with 'dignity' in seat allocation for the ensuing assembly election. "Post is not a matter for our leader (Vaiko) as he rejected opportunities not once but thrice in the past to become a Union cabinet minister. We believed that DMK would fulfill the assurance given to us as part of the alliance, by allocating a Rajya Sabha seat. Now, we feel disappointed and sad, but we choose to move on for the alliance to stay intact," Durai Vaiko said. The MP said that when MDMK joined the DMK alliance in 2019 along with Communists and VCK, they were promised one Lok Sabha seat and one Rajya Sabha seat. As Vaiko developed cardiac issues back then, he was urged to become a Rajya Sabha MP due to his health conditions. In the 2024 Lok Sabha election, MDMK's key functionaries demanded a Rajya Sabha seat again, but as there was more than a year left in the existing RS term, MDMK believed that DMK would certainly allocate them an RS seat later, he said.

Hyderabad: Telangana Congress president B Mahesh Kumar Goud on Friday said the allegations of BRS MLC K Kavitha and later by BJP senior MLA T Raja Singh on BJP-BRS merger efforts vindicated the Congress' stand that BRS and BJP are secret partners, and the pink party helped the BJP in the Lok Sabha and MLC elections. Mahesh Goud also demanded that Union minister G Kishan Reddy reply to allegations made by Raja Singh that some leaders in the saffron party were ready to support BRS-BJP merger in return for a "big package". Alleging that former CM K Chandrasekhar Rao has revived ties with former BRS miniter Eatala Rajender, now a BJP MP, in the backdrop of notices in the Kaleshwaram irrigation probe, the TPCC chief said: "It is learnt that BRS MLA and former irrigation minister T Harish Rao met Rajender at a farmhouse, following which KCR spoke to Eatala over phone." He accused Eatala of working for the BRS while being in BJP and asked him to make his stand clear if that was not the case. The TPCC president said that even if the BRS and BJP merged, there would be no impact on the Congress. "The BRS already scored a zero in Lok Sabha elections and the BJP tally of 8 MPs will remain the same even if there was a merger. The Congress is enjoying the confidence of the people due to its welfare schemes," he said.

Assam cops may interrogate Gaurav Gogoi over 'Pak links'
File photo: Gaurav Gogoi (Picture credit: ANI) GUWAHATI: Congress deputy leader in Lok Sabha Gaurav Gogoi, recently appointed president of the Assam unit of the party, is likely to be summoned soon for interrogation in connection with a case to do with his alleged links with Pakistan, a highly-placed police source said. The source said a letter would be written to the Lok Sabha Speaker seeking permission to interrogate Gogoi, if required. Gogoi's party colleague and former Rajya Sabha MP Ripun Bora, was interrogated by an Assam police SIT for four hours Thursday in connection with the case. He was questioned regarding his statement during a press conference Sunday, where he 'defended' Gogoi over Pak-link allegation against him. Bora had said that CM Himanta Biswa Sarma was trying to portray Gogoi as an ISI agent only because BJP knows the present govt will lose assembly elections next year if Gogoi is made the opposition's CM candidate. Gogoi told the media, "...SIT sought information from Ripun Bora. What did they do in the name of investigation if Bora has to give them all info?" He said state's people have already understood the politics hatched in the name of investigation. "We have been talking about the ongoing syndicate of coal, sand, and betel nut and scams by the CM and a few of his close ministers, and we will take the issues to the people," he added.
