Conor Bradley scores first Liverpool goal since Jota death after perfect tribute
Conor Bradley offered a muted reaction after scoring Liverpool's first goal since the death of the Northern Irishman's good friend Diogo Jota.
Right-back Bradley was on hand to turn home from close range after good work from Rio Ngumoha and Federico Chiesa in the first half of the Reds' opening pre-season game of the campaign at Preston, where emotional tributes were paid to Jota before the match.
After scoring Bradley then turned away and looked to the heavens, before turning to embrace the rest of his team-mates.
Liverpool's players had gathered in the centre circle for a minute's silence prior to the match, while Preston had produced a special free matchday programme in honour of both Jota and his brother Andre, and performances of Preston anthem 'Can't Help Falling In Love' and Liverpool's 'You'll Never Walk Alone' were sang before the game.
Bradley was one of Jota's closer friends within the Liverpool squad, and he attended the Cheltenham Festival alongside Jota, Scottish defender Andy Robertson and Irish goalkeeper Caoimhin Kelleher in March. Due to Jota's enjoyment of sports such as horse racing, Robertson, Kelleher and Bradley would often joke that he was more Scottish or Irish than Portuguese.
Writing on Instagram after Jota's death, Bradley said: "Where do I start what an incredible footballer but an even better person I feel really lucky to have spent a few years with you.
"Was always nice coming into the changing room in the morning and seeing you smiling and laughing and consistently calling me a hanger.
"Always remember the first time you invited me to your room to play FIFA I think everyone knows where this is going, we was playing and by half time I'm pretty sure I was 5-0 down that was the last time I was ever falling into that trap.
"When I first moved up from the academy you were always there for me and always helped me settle in with the lads which I'll be forever grateful for.
"My thoughts are with your wife, children and family for losing both Diogo and Andre. I can't imagine how tough this is for you all, as I know how tough this feels for me today. Love you jots and I'm sure we will meet again."

Isak was left out by Howe as the Sweden international tries to force a move away from St James' Park, with Liverpool seeing a bid rejected earlier in the summer. Howe reiterated his stance that the door remains open for Isak to be reintegrated into the squad if he wants to be but knows only the player is in control. 'I'm certainly not in control of that," Howe said. "And I think there's only one person really that could control that. Nothing's changed. But he has to decide what he wants to do. 'I mean, that's the quickest way. But of course, Alex is in control of what he does. I'm not in control of him. I hope it's resolved quickly, because it's news around us all the time. Players have managed to shut that out and perform. We have to continue to do that. We have to cope without the narrative against us.' Howe refused to speculate on whether the Magpies would have beaten Villa with Isak in the team, having failed to score when playing against 10 men for over half-an-hour. 'I don't think it's the narrative we want to go down, because it's easy to say, but you've got no way of knowing if that's the case,' he said. 'Of course, you're going to miss someone that scored the goals that Alex has, and not just the goals, but the calibre of player that he is. 'So we're not silly enough to think any different, but we just have to look and talk about the players that are here and what they've given today. It's very easy for the players to have a feeling of negativity going into the game or an excuse they're ready, but there was no sign of that in our performance.' The draw meant Villa will now go more than a calendar year without home defeat in the Premier League. They were in the ascendency when Ezri Konsa was dismissed for hauling down Anthony Gordon when the Newcastle forward was through on goal. But they held firm with 10 men and never really looked like conceding. 'We are not happy when we are losing two points at home,' boss Unai Emery said. 'But after the red card we have to feel confident for the next matches. 'Today was a very good test. This is the level we are going to face this year in the Premier League and Europa League.' Pep Guardiola cuts emotional figure in beautiful Wolves tributes to Diogo Jota
Wolves paid tribute to former player Diogo Jota, who died in a car crash alongside his brother in July, ahead of their first match of the new Premier League season against Manchester City Pep Guardiola was visibly emotional as tributes were paid to the late Diogo Jota ahead of Wolves ' clash with Manchester City. Jota, 28, tragically died in a car crash in July alongside his younger brother, Andre Silva. The Portuguese forward spent three years at Wolves before moving to Liverpool in 2020. Saturday's fixture was their first competitive match since his passing and Wolves marked the occasion prior to kick-off. A tifo of Jota was raised on the South Bank, as all inside Molineux took part in a minute's applause. The camera panned to City boss Guardiola, who was clearly moved as he stood and applauded alongside his team of coaching staff. In attendance was also Portugal manager Roberto Martinez and former Wolves star Ruben Neves. Jota's wife, Rute Cardoso, and the couple's three children were at Anfield on Friday, as more poignant tributes were paid. Wolves produced a special 100-page commemorative programme for the game, as they hosted City to get their 2025-26 Premier League campaign underway. In the 18th minute, marking the shirt number which Jota used to wear for Wolves, both sets of fans applauded for 60 seconds. Wolves kept Guardiola's side at bay for the first 34 minutes before the hosts suddenly found themselves 2-0 down at the break. Erling Haaland broke the deadlock in the 34th minute before new signing Tijjani Reijnders, who created the opener, doubled City's lead three minutes later with his first goal for the club. The striking pre-match tifo was created by Wolves supporters group Old Gold Pack, who fundraised over the past month. Co-founder Kieran Newey commented: "We wanted to honour Diogo and show what he meant to Wolves fans and to Wolverhampton. " Football fans come together at times like this to really show the true love they have for players and for football clubs, and we've had donations from across football, but Wolves fans in particular. Diogo was one of the legends who helped turn the club around when we really needed it. "We wanted to show his family, and everyone who loved him, exactly what he meant to us. It's going to be emotional for everyone, in the stadium and watching at home, but we believe we'll get it right." Wolves chairman Jeff Shi said of Jota: "Diogo was a top player and, for me, one of the top three players in the whole 10 years that Fosun and I have been here. But he was also a nice boy who was very warm, very nice and always understanding, but he was also demanding. "As a top player, you sometimes have to demand your teammates to do well, and although he was never a player on the pitch to shout, you could always see what he wanted from you. He was a very positive and optimistic guy and he could even give the chairman confidence, but he was a guy with very clear ideas. "He was smart, intelligent and also very decisive in his actions. I feel he had the potential to become a very good CEO or entrepreneur in the future because he was very clear with what he wanted to do. Diogo will be sorely missed by everyone here at Wolves and our thoughts go out to his family and friends.'
