Egypt's Aviation Minister, German ambassador talk airport partnerships
During the meeting at the ministry's headquarters, El-Hefny welcomed the ambassador and affirmed the deep historical ties between the two countries. He said the ministry was working according to a comprehensive national strategy to develop the sector and improve services in line with global best practices.
El-Hefny stated that the ministry 'gives great importance to expanding partnerships with the private sector and benefiting from leading international expertise' in areas like training and modernising airport systems. He added that Egypt encourages foreign investment and offers promising opportunities in its civil aviation sector.
For his part, the German ambassador described Egypt as a strategic partner for Germany in the Middle East and said his country looks forward to strengthening cooperation, especially in air transport, which is witnessing notable development in terms of infrastructure and operational services.
Scholz added that many major German companies are showing great interest in expanding in the Egyptian market and contributing to airport development projects, given their advanced technology and the promising investment environment that Egypt offers.
At the end of the meeting, both sides agreed to continue coordination, activate joint cooperation frameworks, and exchange technical expertise to support sustainable development in Egypt's civil aviation sector and solidify Egypt's position as a leading regional hub for air transport.

Egypt's PM inspects Downtown Towers, Lagoons project in New Alamein
Egyptian Prime Minister Mostafa Madbouly on Sunday inspected the Downtown Towers and Downtown Lagoons projects in New Alamein City to review their progress, his office said. Following meetings at the government's headquarters in the new coastal city, Madbouly toured the sites accompanied by Minister of Housing, Utilities, and Urban Communities, Sherif El-Sherbiny, and other ministry officials. At the Downtown Towers project, Madbouly said the aim was to make the area one of the most famous and attractive destinations globally and locally, through unique architectural designs situated around a lakes area. He added that the area would embody sustainability and the characteristics of a smart city with international standards. The housing minister explained that the project is being implemented by the Chinese company CSCEC, similar to the Central Business District towers in the New Administrative Capital. The project includes the construction of five fully-finished residential towers, featuring an 'iconic' tower 250 metres high (68 storeys) and four other towers each 200 metres high (56 storeys). Madbouly also reviewed the progress of the Downtown Lagoons project, which is situated between the towers. El-Sherbiny explained that the trial filling of the largest of the project's 11 lakes has begun to test its equipment, components, insulation, and engineering works. He noted that the project also includes islands, a tourist promenade, and paths for bicycles and electric cars.

Taarek Refaat Egypt has firmly secured its position as the world's leading exporter of frozen strawberries for the second consecutive year, shipping over 353,000 metric tons in 2024 and generating $383 million in export revenue, according to the Export Council for Food Industries. Double-Digit Growth in Demand and Revenue Egypt's frozen strawberry exports have grown at an average annual rate of 26% in value and 24% in volume from 2020 to 2024. The most recent export cycle (2023–2024) witnessed a 14% year-on-year increase in export value, signaling a sharp uptick in global demand for the Egyptian product. 'This sustained growth is no accident—it's the result of a coordinated effort between public and private stakeholders to enhance product quality and meet stringent international food safety standards,' the Council said in a statement. Top Markets: China Leads the Way The five largest importers of Egyptian frozen strawberries in 2024 were: China – $41.9 million (11% of Egypt's total exports) Germany – $41.8 million Russia – $31.1 million United States – $30.9 million Poland – $30.5 million Together, these five markets accounted for 46% of Egypt's total frozen strawberry exports, highlighting the product's appeal across Asia, Europe, and North America. A Case Study in Agro-Export Success Industry experts say Egypt's dominance in the frozen strawberry market reflects several strategic advantages: A long harvest season enabling extended processing windows Competitive labor and logistics costs Government support for export certification, traceability, and food safety systems Modern cold chain infrastructure and packing facilities The Export Council emphasized that Egypt's success in this category should be leveraged to expand into new markets, particularly in Asia and Latin America, while also investing in value-added agricultural processing and product diversification. 'There is a real opportunity to build on this momentum,' the Council stated. 'We must continue enhancing Egypt's global export brand by adding more processed food lines, penetrating emerging markets, and increasing market share in strategic regions.' Global Recognition and National Impact Frozen strawberries are now among Egypt's top-performing agricultural exports, contributing significantly to foreign exchange earnings and employment in the Delta region, where much of the strawberry cultivation and processing is based. Turkish Giant "Hayat" Expands in Egypt's SCZONE with $44M Investment
Taarek Refaat In a significant boost to Turkish-Egyptian economic ties and regional industrial integration, Hayat Egypt, a subsidiary of Turkish conglomerate Hayat Holding, has broken ground on a new production line for nonwoven hygiene products in the Ain Sokhna Integrated Industrial Zone—part of Egypt's Suez Canal Economic Zone (SCZone). The expansion, covering 30,000 square meters, represents a $44 million investment (equivalent to EGP 2.2 billion), and is expected to create over 400 direct jobs. Scheduled to become operational by March 2026, the new facility will dedicate 75% of its production to exports, underscoring Egypt's growing role as a regional manufacturing and export hub. The groundbreaking ceremony was attended by Waleid Gamal El-Dien, Chairman of SCZone; Governor of Suez Tarek El Shazly; Turkish Ambassador to Egypt Saleh Mutlu Şen; and Hayat Egypt General Manager Şenol Keserlioglu, alongside senior officials from the industrial developer Orascom Industrial Parks. According to SCZone data, 18 Turkish companies are currently operating in the zone, with combined investments reaching $793.8 million.
