Caretaker charged after allegedly taking jewelry from seniors in her care for 10 years in Mon County
On April 27, deputies with the Monongalia County Sheriff's Department began a criminal investigation into Julia Fowler, 51, of Albright, who had been hired by a family to care for an elderly person suffering from cognitive decline at a home in Morgantown, according to a criminal complaint.
Family members had reported that jewelry was going missing from the residence; after the investigation began, the elderly victim's family members were 'able to identify 26 pieces' of jewelry which were sold by Fowler to a pawn shop in Westover, according to the complaint.

Those pieces were sold to the pawn shop for a total of $6,986, but family members said the jewelry was worth approximately $20,000 to $25,000, deputies said.
Deputies also learned that Fowler had 'taken care of several elderly individuals' over the course of approximately 10 years, and all have reported jewelry missing during Fowler's employment,' according to the complaint.
Fowler has been charged with multiple counts of financial exploitation of the elderly. She is being held in the North Central Regional Jail on $100,000 bond.
