Montgomery County high school on lockdown following assault involving student, police say
MONTGOMERY COUNTY, Md. () — A high school in Montgomery County was placed on lockdown Wednesday afternoon following a reported assault, the Montgomery County Department of Police (MCPD) stated.
In a social media made shortly before 2 p.m., MCPD said Watkins Mill High School was on lockdown following a reported assault on campus.
DC Council advances changes to Emergency Rental Assistance Program
Details remain limited, however, a student was taken to a hospital with a non-life-threatening injury as police continued to investigate.
Shortly before 2:30 p.m., police said the school was transitioning to a shelter-in-place.

Man hospitalized after single-vehicle crash in Montgomery County
MONTGOMERY COUNTY, Md. () — A vehicle crashed in Montgomery County early Saturday morning, leaving one man seriously injured and temporarily closing part of Norbeck Road, police said. MCPD's Summer Traffic Task Force targets impaired drivers
MONTGOMERY COUNTY, Md. (DC News Now) — On Saturday, May 31, there was a fatal collision at the intersection of Sam Eig Highway and Fields Road. Officials with the Montgomery County Police Department (MCPD) say it was caused by a suspected drunk driver. Ten days before the deadly accident, police launched a Summer Traffic Task Force initiative to try to prevent tragedies like this from happening this summer. 'We're in graduation season,' Captain Warren Jensen, leader of MCPD's Traffic Operations Division, said, 'Memorial Day, Fourth of July, summer parties, post-prom, things like that; so we decided it was a good idea to go ahead and step up our enforcement.' PHOTOS: Black bear travels to Herndon after traversing Maryland Jensen said last year's alarming impaired driving fatal collision numbers led them to implement this traffic enforcement initiative. 'Fifty-five percent of all of our fatal collisions involved some sort of substance, and obviously, that's a completely unacceptable number,' he said. Jensen says this is the department's first time doing a traffic enforcement initiative in the summer. 'We've ended up with about 15 officers on average,' he said. 'Sometimes it's 20, depending on staffing.' That number includes officers from other agencies — including the Gaithersburg Police Department, Park Police, Maryland Transportation Authority, Rockville Police and Maryland State Police, Jensen said. MCPD says the two-car collision on May 31 at the intersection of Sam Eig Highway and Fields Road left an 88-year-old woman seriously injured. She later died. Police say the 18-year-old who ran into her is believed to have been impaired at the time. 'The case is still in its infancy,' Jensen said, 'so they're not ready to speak about exactly all the details yet. It's obviously a tragic situation, and alcohol is absolutely suspected.' Losing a loved one in a fatal collision is a pain Richard Leotta knows all too well. His son, Noah, was an MCPD officer who worked in the traffic division until 2015 when he was struck and killed by an impaired driver. 'Hopefully with the enhanced enforcement,' Leotta said, 'people will recognize to think twice and plan ahead, so they can get a safe and sober ride home.' 5 teens arrested in crash with multiple stolen vehicles
The Brief Five teens, ages 13 to 15, were arrested after fleeing from a stolen vehicle in Montgomery County on Tuesday evening. Police recovered four stolen cars, including a Kia and three Hyundais, at the scene of a crash and subsequent traffic stop. All teens were charged with possession of a stolen vehicle and later released to their guardians. MONTGOMERY COUNTY, Md. - A group of five teens were arrested and four stolen vehicles recovered after a crash in Montgomery County Tuesday evening. What we know On Tuesday around 7:30 p.m., Montgomey County police responded to the intersection of Heathfield Drive and Parkland Drive after reports of a crash. Officers found three cars, empty and idling. The cars, one Kia and two Hyundais, were determined to be stolen. Police at the scene saw a dark colored Kia speed away with multiple people inside. The Kia stopped at Weller Road, where five teens got out of the car. The Kia was also determined to have been stolen. The five teens – one 13-year-old, three 14-year-olds and a 15-year-old, were taken into custody and charged with possession of a stolen vehicle. They were released to their guardians.
