Chad Bowden, USC football reportedly offered Luke Wafle more than $2 million
On Thursday, USC football landed yet another massive commitment, landing four-star edge rusher Luke Wafle. The Trojans continue to flex their muscles on the recruiting trail, putting together an absolutely loaded 2026 class.
In the modern era of college football recruiting, however, landing elite players is quite expensive. According to a report from On3, the Trojans are paying more than $2 million for Wafle.
"The Trojans were tracking for Wafle's commitment coming out of last weekend's official visit to Los Angeles," they wrote on Thursday. "Ohio State upped its NIL package and began to trend Wednesday morning. USC then made a counter-offer to that and ultimately got the pledge locked in. We're hearing Wafle's package is between 2.2 and 2.6 million dollars over two years."
On3 USC recruiting insider Scott Schrader added some more details.
"What we're told at WeAreSC from a very trusted source, is while Wafle's NIL deal with USC is an extremely strong opportunity, it's not a two-year deal. At the last minute USC changed it to a three-year deal.
"On Sunday morning (June 15) I checked in on the status or vibe with Luke Wafle. At that time I was told by a source he would likely commit to USC on Monday. I posted we expected some huge news by the end of the week. Even though I was told it would be Monday, I know how this stuff works sometimes, so I said 'later this week.'
"Obviously it didn't happen on Monday and a few days passed. I checked in again Wednesday afternoon and was told 'Thursday.' That's what prompted a 'Still Happening' thread on our message board at WeAreSC.
"Then on Wednesday morning we learned with an assist from [On3 national recruiting insider] Steve Wiltfong, that it looked like Ohio State would get Wafle. I checked myself and was told USC was out….at least at that time.
"Not long after that, we've learned from Steve and USC sources that were definitely still in the battle. I was getting ready to watch [USC QB commit] Jonas Williams at the Elite 11 Finals, but checked in again last night it still looked good for the Trojans.
"On Thursday morning we submitted a USC prediction for Wafle and USC has an 87% chance of getting him per the On3 RPM.
"The trend of USC getting dunked on with NIL sort of ended with [USC freshman defensive lineman] Jahkeem Stewart in December, but USC getting Wafle as predicted, it's kind of an exclamation point on where things currently stand with the USC football program."
While the notion that 17 year-old kids are being promised millions of dollars before they even play a snap of college football is certainly controversial—to say the least—the fact of the matter is that with general manager Chad Bowden at the helm, USC is doing everything that it can to best position itself to succeed in the sport's new era. That is something that simply was not the case a year ago.

Where Auburn stands in Claude Mpouma's recruitment ahead of his June commitment date
Auburn remains in the mix to land the four-star lineman from Illinois ahead of his commitment date. Four-star offensive tackle Claude Mpouma included the Auburn Tigers in his top five schools this week, and has set a commitment date. Where does Auburn stand in the mix? The offensive lineman from Chicago, Illinois, announced on social media that he will announce his pledge on Sunday, June 29, and that Auburn is among the top programs that remain in contention to land him. The Tigers join Ohio State, Florida, Michigan, and Nebraska in the race for Mpouma's signature. A successful visit to the Plains earlier this month is a key reason why Auburn remains high on Mpouma's radar. In an interview with Jeffrey Lee of On3, Mpouma said that offensive line coach Jake Thornton and defensive line coach Vontrell King-Williams, who is an alum of the high school that Mpouma attends, is selling Auburn well and that Auburn is a "top three" school for him, and that they are not the No. 3 school for him. What makes Auburn special to Mpouma? 'The culture. They're pretty big on that,' Mpouma said in an interview with Auburn Live. 'I feel like that's a big thing, too. That's something I respect a lot.' Now that we know Auburn is one of the top schools to land Mpouma, what are the odds that they close the deal? On3's Recruiting Prediction Machine currently gives Nebraska a slight edge over Auburn, 33% to 24%. He has zero crystal ball predictions from 247Sports, but those predictions could start filing in this week ahead of his commitment date. Mpouma is a 6-8, 260-pound offensive tackle from Chicago, Illinois. He is considered a four-star prospect by every major recruiting outlet and ranks as high as No. 12 among offensive linemen rankings in 2026. Auburn's recruiting class ranks No. 57 in 247Sports' 2026 recruiting rankings, so a commitment fro Mpouma would do wonders for a class that is currently struggling in the rankings. USC football countdown to kickoff continues—Tony Boselli in focus
The countdown to USC's 2025 football season is officially on! The Trojans kick off their new campaign 71 days from today. You need something to help you while away the days and hours in the spring and summer. This is one way to do so. In this new series, countdown to kickoff, we will be counting down the days by highlighting a notable Trojan who wore each number. Today, we take a look at Hall of Fame offensive lineman Tony Boselli. Position: Offensive line Years played at USC: 1991-1994 Career highlights: Boselli was a dominant force at offensive tackle for the Trojans during the early 1990s. In his four-year USC career, Boselli earned first-team All-American honors twice and first-team All-Pac-10 three times. As a senior in 1994, he won the Morris Trophy as the top offensive lineman in the Pac-10 Conference. After USC: The Jacksonville Jaguars selected Boselli with the second overall pick in the 1995 NFL Draft. He was the first draft pick in the expansion franchise's history. Boselli's professional career was not super long, but boy was it dominant. Despite playing just seven seasons in the league—six with Jacksonville and one with the Houston Texans—Boselli made five Pro Bowls and was named first-team All-Pro three times. Boselli was inducted into the College Football Hall of Fame in 2014 and the Pro Football Hall of Fame in 2022. Earlier this year, he was named the Jaguars' executive vice president of football operations.

LSU football loses top quarterback target, four-star passer to SEC rival
LSU 2026 quarterback target Bowe Bentley committed to Oklahoma, per On3's Hayes Fawcett on Friday. The Tigers made a push for the four-star passer during the spring, landing in Bentley's top two alongside the Sooners. However, after taking official visits to both within the last month, he decided to head to Norman. Ranked No. 7 at his position and No. 11 out of Texas by On3's Industry Rankings, Bentley had a host of SEC offers to choose from. There have been multiple reports that say the Celina, TX native traveled to campus Friday to tell head coach Brent Venables and the staff in person. LSU's 2026 class still ranks first in the conference and second nationally, but it remains in search of a quarterback. There are two top-10 uncommitted passers remaining, but the Tigers aren't considered finalists for either, nor anyone in the top 30. LSU will now move its focus to flip targets. Just because Bentley committed doesn't mean he'll stop hearing from schools. Expect LSU to stay in his ear and possibly host him for another trip, and possibly for a game in Death Valley.
