1xBet and European Cricket Network Kick Off New Era of European Cricket
Since 2012, international bookmaker 1xBet has worked to raise the profile of cricket in India and other Asian countries. Now, as the sport prepares for its Olympic return at the 2028 Games in Los Angeles, 1xBet is extending its support into Europe through a new partnership with the European Cricket Network (ECN).
Cricket, while created in England, has become a major sport in South Asia, especially in India. Tournaments such as the Indian Premier League (IPL) attract large audiences and media coverage. In contrast, many European countries have not embraced cricket to the same extent. However, with its Olympic inclusion ahead, the sport is starting to gain ground across the continent.
1xBet has been a long-time supporter of cricket in regions like India, the UAE, and several African countries. By teaming up with ECN, the company will now help expand cricket's reach in Europe.
Partnership to Cover Leading European Cricket Events in 2025
Under the agreement running from April 1 to October 31, 2025, 1xBet becomes the Official Betting Partner of ECN. The organisation is responsible for several top-level competitions for both male and female teams. These include:
● European Cricket League (ECL);
● European Cricket Championship (men's and women's);
● European Cricket Series (men's and women's);
● European Cricket Internationals (men's and women's);
● Weston Shield (Men's All-Star tournament);
● Meltl Shield (Women's All-Star tournament).
These tournaments have already earned strong followings in India, placing among the top ten most-viewed cricket events in the country. They are known for featuring skilled players and for running professionally managed competitions.
ECN hosts matches in more than 20 European countries. The European Cricket League is shown by broadcasters worldwide, including FanCode (India), Sky Sport (New Zealand), Fox Sports (Australia), SportsMax (Caribbean), ATN (Canada), SportDeutschland (Germany), Streamster (Austria), Swiss Sport TV (Switzerland), and StarTimes (Africa). This international reach brings in a broad viewership for each tournament.
1xBet's sponsorship is expected to support the growth of ECN events and bring them closer to a wider global audience. The funding will also assist teams by improving training facilities and providing better equipment. These changes can encourage more young players to try cricket and develop their skills.
'This partnership is an important development for fans of the sport,' said Irina Kapoor, Head of Marketing at 1xBet. 'The European Cricket Network is helping to grow cricket in countries where it hasn't yet become widely followed — like Germany, Spain, Italy, and France. We're glad to work with ECN and believe our shared goals will help bring new supporters to the sport, especially as it prepares for the Olympics.'
'We're pleased to announce our partnership with 1xBet, a well-established brand in the industry,' said Roger Feiner, CEO of the European Cricket Network. 'Through this partnership, ECN joins the same sponsorship group that includes football clubs like FC Barcelona, basketball's FIBA, Volleyball World, and other major sports organisations.'
Brand Visibility and Audience Engagement
The ECN runs hundreds of matches every year, giving 1xBet repeated visibility during match broadcasts. As part of the agreement, the 1xBet logo will appear throughout all live match streams and on promotional materials connected to the tournaments. Match commentators will mention the brand when discussing results and statistics, keeping the sponsor in regular view.
In addition, ECN and 1xBet will develop content together for social media platforms. They also plan to include activities for fans to take part in during events. One such detail includes the use of a branded coin for the coin toss at the beginning of each match, used to decide which team will bat or field first.
Cricket followers and sports media will be watching closely to see how this partnership develops and how it supports the sport's growth in Europe.
About the European Cricket Network
The European Cricket Network (ECN) was created in 2018 to help cricket develop across the continent. The organisation holds regular tournaments, builds media partnerships, and works on growing public interest in the sport. Each year, ECN delivers live, broadcast-quality coverage of its major competitions, including:
● European Cricket Championship (ECC);
● European Cricket League (ECL);
● European Cricket International (ECI);
● European Cricket Series (ECS);
● European Cricket Championship – Women (ECC-W);
● Weston Shield (men's All-Star tournament);
● Meltl Shield (women's All-Star tournament).
These events help bring attention to cricket in new markets and give players the chance to perform on international platforms.

Trump, Musk to speak after alliance descends into public feud: reports

White House aides scheduled a call between Donald Trump and Elon Musk for Friday (June 6, 2025), Politico reported, after a huge public spat that saw threats fly over government contracts and ended with the world's richest man suggesting the U.S. president should be impeached. The reported call could ease the feuding after an extraordinary day of hostilities — largely conducted over social media — that marked a stark end to a close alliance. Shares in Mr. Musk's Tesla closed down over 14% on Thursday, losing about $150 billion in market value in the largest single-day decline in value in its history. In pre-market European trading on Friday, they pared some of those losses, rising 5% after the Politico report that the two men were scheduled to speak. Mr. Musk had bankrolled a large part of Mr. Trump's presidential campaign and was then brought in as one of the president's most visible advisers, heading up a sweeping and controversial effort to downsize the federal workforce and slash spending. The verbal punches erupted on Thursday (June 5, 2025) after Mr. Trump criticised Mr. Musk in the Oval Office and the pair then traded barbs on their social media platforms: Mr. Trump's Truth Social and Mr. Musk's X. The falling-out had begun brewing days ago when Mr. Musk, who left his role as head of the Department of Government Efficiency a week ago, denounced Mr. Trump's sweeping tax-cut and spending bill. The president initially stayed quiet while Mr. Musk campaigned to torpedo the bill, saying it would add too much to the nation's $36.2 trillion in debt. Mr. Trump broke his silence on Thursday, telling reporters he was "very disappointed" in Mr. Musk. Back and forth "Look, Elon and I had a great relationship. I don't know if we will anymore," Mr. Trump said. As Mr. Trump spoke, Mr. Musk responded on X. "Without me, Trump would have lost the election," wrote Mr. Musk, who spent nearly $300 million backing Trump and other Republicans in last year's election. In another post, Mr. Musk asserted that Trump's signature import tariffs would push the U.S. into a recession later this year. "The easiest way to save money in our Budget, Billions and Billions of Dollars, is to terminate Elon's Governmental Subsidies and Contracts," Mr. Trump posted. Minutes after the closing bell, Mr. Musk replied, "Yes," to a post on X saying Trump should be impeached, something that would be highly unlikely given Mr. Trump's Republicans hold majorities in both chambers of Congress. Mr. Musk's businesses also include rocket company and government contractor SpaceX and its satellite unit Starlink. Mr. Musk, whose space business plays a critical role in the U.S. government's space program, said that as a result of Trump's threats he would begin decommissioning SpaceX's Dragon spacecraft. Dragon is the only U.S. spacecraft capable of sending astronauts to the International Space Station. Late on Thursday, Mr. Musk backed off the threat. In another sign of a possible detente to come, Mr. Musk subsequently wrote: "You're not wrong," in response to billionaire investor Bill Ackman saying Mr. Trump and Mr. Musk should make peace.

'US no longer a safe nation for investment': Why Carmignac chief economist thinks Trump's 'revenge tax' will backfire

Raphael Gallardo, chief economist at French asset manager Carmignac. warned that the United States is no longer a secure destination for foreign investors because of risks stemming from President Donald Trump's tax and spending bill, as reported by Bloomberg. Gallardo is the latest market commentator to speak about the deep concerns over Section 899 of the bill, a provision that would increase tax rates for individuals and companies from countries whose tax policies the US considers 'discriminatory'. Some have dubbed the measure a 'revenge tax'. During a briefing on the outlook for the second half of the year, Gallardo said, 'The United States is no longer a safe nation for investment.' Carmignac, which had about $39 billion under management at the end of 2024, titled its presentation ''From America First' to Global Financial Anarchy'. Gallardo believes that Trump's unpredictable decisions on trade, along with the concerns around his foreign policy and the rule of law are all prompting traditional allies of the US to reduce their dependence and ties to the world's biggest economy. 'Why de-risk? Because the United States has become a totally unreliable military ally and so, one has to secure supply chains, find new markets,' as reported by Bloomberg. According to Bloomberg data, the Wall Street consensus is that the tax provision would further decrease investors' confidence in US assets, which are already shaken by Trump's trade policies and America's deteriorating fiscal accounts. The tax provision could trigger a 5 per cent fall in the dollar and a 10 per cent selloff across equities, according to Allianz SE chief investment officer Ludovic Subran. Carmignac is diversifying asset allocations from the US to Europe, where Germany's historic fiscal reforms have given a boost to economic growth, reported Bloomberg. German Chancellor Friedrich Merz has taken a series of measures to add weight to the country's military capacity, accelerate infrastructure spending and revive the economy through comprehensive corporate tax breaks. 'Trump managed to achieve what no one had managed before, and that's to make the Germans start to spend,' Gallardo said. Bloomberg reported that European equities have emerged as clear winners worldwide this year as concerns over the Trump administration's trade policies encourage investors to reduce holdings of US assets. At the end of May, eight of the world's 10 best-performing stock indexes were European. Carmignac handles a range of funds across equity, fixed income, diversified and alternative asset classes with different geographical focuses and target outcomes. It was among asset managers who predicted the rally in global shares last year, dismissing talk of a bubble in equity markets, as per Bloomberg

Albania, Serbia clash in high-stakes, politically charged WC qualifier

The roar of the crowd or the thrill of the game are hallmarks of international soccer. But when Albania and Serbia meet Saturday in a 2026 World Cup qualifier, the energy will be different. The match in Tirana isn't just about three points as echoes of past confrontations are impossible to ignore. It's a clash deeply rooted in national identities that organizers are fighting hard to put aside. It is one of the most politically charged and emotionally intense rivalries in European football, rooted in deep historical and ethnic tensions, especially relating to the Kosovo conflict and broader Balkan history. Serbia and Albania are in the same European qualifying group alongside England, Latvia and Andorra. The last time they met on Albanian soil was in 2015, when Serbia won 2-0 even though Serbian fans were banned from the match. The 2014 Belgrade brawl fresh in memoriesA 2014 game between the teams in Belgrade was abandoned when a drone carrying an Albanian flag sparked a full-scale brawl. Albania was awarded a 3-0 victory after a ruling said the match couldn't be continued due to the hostile environment at the stadium. That clinched Albania's qualification to the 2016 European Championship a first for the team. That match had already been considered high risk. Kosovo, which has a majority Albanian population, declared independence from Serbia in 2008 a move Serbia does not recognize. Football, often a mirror of nationalism and politics, reflected this deep divide. As Tirana braces for the latest showdown, memories of that night and the nationalistic fervor it unleashed hover just beneath the surface. Serbia's tense ties with KosovoSerbia and Albania remain at odds over the status of now-independent Kosovo, and fan rivalry is still intense. Almost half of the Albanian squad is of Albanian origin from Kosovo, North Macedonia or southern Serbia. For players, this is a contest overshadowed by history, politics, and national pride a reminder that sometimes sport is anything but just a game. Albania defender Elseid Hysaj, who was part of the 2014 match, said the chaos "should not be repeated." We should be calm and be conscious that we are football players," he said. We are here to please the fans and give our best for the victory. Organizers remind fans it's a gameArmand Duka, president of the Albanian Football Federation, called on Albanians to see the match as a sports event where the team gets support and positive energy from the fans to achieve the goal. We want to give the message: let's live it as a sport festivity, Duka told The Associated Press. There will be a heavy police presence, road closures, and searches of fans entering the stadium. Serbian fans are barred, which "will contribute to a quieter environment, Duka said. The sides have taken steps to forge a better relationship. Albania and Serbia will co-host the men's Under-21 European Championship in 2027 in a project that aims to overcome political tensions. Players do not bear the burden of history or of the political tensions, Duka said. They compete on the pitch to win, to give the best for the jersey they represent and, above all, to build the bridge of respect through the game. Nationalists and soccer fans at oddsAlthough political tensions have somewhat subsided in recent years, nationalists and soccer fans on both sides are deeply at odds. Both Albania and Serbia have faced sanctions from European soccer's governing body because of politically-charged incidents involving fans. Serbia's populist President Aleksandar Vucic, however, recently added fuel by telling Serbia coach Dragan Stojkovic at a big rally of his supporters that Serbia must win. Go there and beat them, he said, addressing Stojkovic who was in the crowd. Stojkovic and some players have tried to ease tensions, saying it is just another match. Everyone says that the first game is very important," Stojkovic said of Serbia's opener in Group K. We are very focused on starting the way we want to and we will prepare to play the best we can in that sense, with all due respect to Albania.
