'We want adversity' Texas A&M HC Bucky McMillan is confident ahead of his inaugural season
New Texas A&M basketball head coach Bucky McMillan has been one of the lone bright spots for Texas A&M Athletics over the past three months, as the Buzz Williams era came to a close after six seasons, which never included a trip to the Sweet 16 despite three consecutive NCAA Tournament appearances.
McMillan's fast-paced offense, energy, and consistent passion for the game have rejuvenated a program that was considered successful but had been falling short when it mattered year after year. Since taking over, McMillan has proven to be an elite recruiter from the transfer portal, landing 12 commitments, led by former Indiana star forward Mackenzie Mgbako and former Creighton standout guard Pop Issacs.
Outside of several of the 13 new additions who have yet to make it to campus for summer camp, McMillan's 2025 roster has enough talent to compete for a postseason bid this coming season. While he is looking to add two more players to fill out the 15-man roster, that shouldn't be an issue based on his recent success.
On Wednesday night, McMillan joined Texas A&M Football head coach Mike Elko in Dallas for the second consecutive Coach's Night, marking McMillan's first appearance this offseason. In stark contrast to Buzz Williams, McMillan's confidence and belief in what the basketball program can be should excite every Aggie fan come this fall.
"I do think that this place is destined to compete for championships. I want to do that here. We will compete for championships when we don't focus so much on what we're going to do and instead focus on how we're going to do it."
Texas A&M's basketball program has never advanced to the Elite Eight. While the Aggies are likely a ways away from making serious noise in the NCAA Tournament, McMillan's vision and underdog mentality align perfectly with the Aggies' fan base, as he craves adversity to keep the team on its toes throughout the season.
"We want adversity. We want that. When there is true adversity and things aren't going exactly how we want it to go, that's an opportunity for all these Aggies to come together and do something incredible."
On the court, one of the major issues that plagued the Aggies last season was a lack of offensive consistency, as well as struggles at the free-throw line. These two areas will be addressed and improved with better shooting talent and coaching that begins this summer. Good things are on the horizon, and the 2025 Aggie basketball squad will be one of the highest-scoring offenses in the SEC.
"We take free-throws, layups and threes, and we get really good at it."

Florida 'on top' for 4-star OT after official visit

Florida 'on top' for 4-star OT after official visit Mount Carmel High School (Chicago) offensive tackle Claude Mpouma has Florida leading his recruitment after an official visit to The Swamp over the weekend. "On top," Mpouma said to Swamp247. "I mean, it's Florida... I just feel comfortable over here. I feel like I'm home. So that's probably a big thing for me." The 6-foot-7-inch, 308-pound Cameroon native made his second trip to Gainesville on Friday and stayed through Sunday for a closer look at the program. He spent time with position coaches John DeCoster and Rob Sale, strengthening an already established relationship. Florida overtook Auburn in the race for Mpouma, but recency bias seems to be a factor with his recruitment. He'll be at Nebraska this upcoming weekend and could decide that, although no timeline has been laid out just yet. Recruiting Summary Recruiting Service Star Rating Natl. Rank Pos. "Light on his feet and will find ways to cover the corner with his raw athleticism as he can dance to the tune of different pass rushers. Plays a bit upright at times, but has displayed the ability to get low in a three-point stance. More notably, can fire off the ball with some urgency when convicted in his assignment." "Lacks play strength at this stage and can struggle with power-based defenders. Also needs instruction in how to get the most out of his long levers. Will be a longer burn as he's still in the early stages of his development, but should be viewed as a potential multi-year starter for a College Football Playoff hopeful that will have a chance to man the left side of the line with his reach and fluidity. Could certainly outplay his projection if he flips the switch in the run game." Previewing the 2025 season for Texas A&M DL DJ Hicks with his player profile

Previewing the 2025 season for Texas A&M DL DJ Hicks with his player profile As we gear up for the 2025 football season, Aggies Wire is breaking down every player on the Texas A&M roster. Throughout the preseason, each profile will highlight the player's background, recruiting rankings out of high school, and their projected role under head coach Mike Elko this year. DJ Hicks, the top-rated recruit from Texas A&M's 2023 class, enters the season as a veteran presence on the defensive line. The Aggies will rely on Hicks to help fortify their run defense, lining up alongside Albert Regis and Cashius Howell to create a formidable front. While Hicks' statistics through two seasons may not leap off the page, his experience across 24 games, mostly in rotational roles behind current NFL talent, has prepared him for a breakout junior year. With his name now penciled in atop the depth chart, Hicks is expected to see his most significant playing time yet. Preseason Player Profile Hometown: Katy, Texas Height: 6-5 Weight: 310 lbs. Class in 2025: Junior Recruiting Rankings (Class of 2023) National: No. 11 No. 11 Position (DL): No. 1 No. 1 Texas: No. 2 The former five-star prospect, Hicks earned 2022 Texas District 19-6A Co-Defensive MVP honors his senior year. After contributing in nearly every game since arriving in College Station, 2025 could be the year he cements his legacy. Depth Chart Outlook For the first time, Hicks enters fall camp as a projected starter, listed beside senior Albert Regis. Expect him to play a key role in Texas A&M's defensive success this season. Here's what coach Mike Elko had to say about the junior DL during the Dallas Coach's Night: "I think DJ Hicks is probably that guy who is going to step into that limelight this year and fulfill his potential."
