Florida 'on top' for 4-star OT after official visit
Mount Carmel High School (Chicago) offensive tackle Claude Mpouma has Florida leading his recruitment after an official visit to The Swamp over the weekend.
"On top," Mpouma said to Swamp247. "I mean, it's Florida... I just feel comfortable over here. I feel like I'm home. So that's probably a big thing for me."
The 6-foot-7-inch, 308-pound Cameroon native made his second trip to Gainesville on Friday and stayed through Sunday for a closer look at the program. He spent time with position coaches John DeCoster and Rob Sale, strengthening an already established relationship.
Florida overtook Auburn in the race for Mpouma, but recency bias seems to be a factor with his recruitment. He'll be at Nebraska this upcoming weekend and could decide that, although no timeline has been laid out just yet.

Scouting Report
"Green offensive tackle that lacks game reps, but one with a monster ceiling given the rare physical features and quick movement patterns," 247Sports Director of Scouting Andrew Ivins said in a June scouting report. "Light on his feet and will find ways to cover the corner with his raw athleticism as he can dance to the tune of different pass rushers. Plays a bit upright at times, but has displayed the ability to get low in a three-point stance. More notably, can fire off the ball with some urgency when convicted in his assignment."
"Lacks play strength at this stage and can struggle with power-based defenders. Also needs instruction in how to get the most out of his long levers. Will be a longer burn as he's still in the early stages of his development, but should be viewed as a potential multi-year starter for a College Football Playoff hopeful that will have a chance to man the left side of the line with his reach and fluidity. Could certainly outplay his projection if he flips the switch in the run game."

CJ Carr named starting quarterback for No. 6 Notre Dame over Kenny Minchey: ‘Their strengths are very similar'

CJ Carr will be Notre Dame's starting quarterback when the No. 6 Irish open the season at No. 10 Miami on Aug. 31. Notre Dame, last season's College Football Playoff runner-up, made the announcement Tuesday morning via its football social media pages on X and Instagram. Carr replaces Riley Leonard, who was a sixth-round pick by the Indianapolis Colts in the spring. Carr, in his second year with the Irish, hasn't yet thrown a pass in a collegiate game. The four-star recruit out of Saline, Mich., is the grandson of former Michigan coach Lloyd Carr. He was in competition during fall camp with Kenny Minchey, a third-year Notre Dame player who completed 3 of 3 passes for 16 yards and rushed for 12 yards and a touchdown in four games. The pair split reps with the first team throughout camp. 'Their strengths are very similar,' Notre Dame quarterbacks coach Gino Guidugli told reporters at the beginning of camp. 'Both guys are really good in terms of their routine and their preparation. Both have really high football IQs. It means a lot to both of them. Both have a lot of arm talent. 'CJ is probably a little bit more vocal than Kenny is. Kenny is probably a little more athletic than CJ is. But all in all, we've got two really good quarterbacks that are competing their butts off.' Notre Dame coach Marcus Freeman and offensive coordinator Mike Denbrock said earlier this week that they saw positives from both quarterbacks during camp, with Denbrock declaring them 'both good enough to help us win football games.' Freeman said he thought both QBs worked hard, were coachable and were able to move on quickly from mistakes. He wasn't ready to name a starter Sunday morning when he met with reporters, but had laid out the criteria for the winner, including demonstrating consistency and sound decision-making. 'I don't want to just sit here and watch the outcome, good or bad, and blame the quarterback,' Freeman said. 'It's like, 'What decision was he supposed to make? Did he make the right decision?' Then you look and say, 'OK, was the ball good? Was the protection right?' All those different things that are on his plate. But that is more important to me than anything, the decision-making.' After winning the competition, Carr faces a big challenge in getting ready for the road opener against a ranked opponent. The Irish then host No. 19 Texas A&M in their second game on Sept. 13. Denbrock offered a word of caution to those observing. 'I hope everybody knows that no matter who we name the quarterback, it's no easy task going down to Miami and playing in a season opener,' Denbrock said. 'No matter who the starter is, there will be a learning curve involved in all of this. But we're confident we've got two guys who can compete at a very high level and do a really, really good job.'

Watch: Notre Dame's new starting quarterback CJ Carr's high school highlight reel

While we haven't seen much of Notre Dame football's new starting quarterback CJ Carr at this level, we can go back and look at what he did in high school. Coming out of Saline High School in Michigan, Carr was a nationally ranked prospect as the No. 68 overall recruit in the 2024 class according to the 247Sports Composite. Sure, we saw him during the past two years of Blue and Gold games, but those are set up for success for the quarterbacks. During his final season of high school, Carr would throw for 2,754 yards with 24 touchdowns and 9 interceptions, while running for 91 yards, but accounting for 9 other scores. Over his three years starting, he threw for a total of 8,135 yards with 78 touchdowns and 18 interceptions, while accounting for 312 yards rushing and 16 scores. Those are very impressive numbers from Carr, and hopefully he can replicate that success with the Irish. Check out below his senior year highlights, for a glimpse of what is to come when Notre Dame takes the field on the road against Miami at the end of the month. Where Clemson landed in ESPN's 2025 college football preseason power rankings

Clemson has been one of the most talked-about teams all offseason, and ESPN's first power rankings of 2025 only added fuel to the fire. Dabo Swinney's Tigers landed at No. 3, coming in ahead of both their AP Poll and Coaches Poll placements. ESPN's David Hale pointed to how complete this roster looks compared to recent years. 'Is it a national championship or bust at Clemson this season? That might be a lofty expectation, but the stars have aligned for a team that has all the players in place, from a veteran quarterback (Cade Klubnik) to a trio of elite receivers to a revamped defense led by high-level NFL talent in Peter Woods and T.J. Parker,' Hale said. He also highlighted the addition of defensive coordinator Tom Allen, who is expected to bring back the intensity that once defined Clemson's defense. In Hale's view, this is Swinney's best roster since 2020, and following a surprise playoff berth last season, the bar has been raised even higher. Clemson trails only Texas and Penn State in ESPN's Top 25, while Georgia and Ohio State sit just behind. The Tigers will open their season on Aug. 30 against LSU in Death Valley, a top-10 clash that will immediately test Swinney's squad. Their regular-season finale against South Carolina also shapes up as one of the year's marquee rivalry games, with both teams ranked in the top 15. Elsewhere in the ACC, Miami is ranked No. 10, while SMU and Louisville also cracked the Top 25. The league's depth gives Clemson several chances to prove itself as the Tigers aim to return to the College Football Playoff and push for another national championship.
