Op Akhal: One terrorist killed in encounter with security forces in J-K's Kulgam; operation continues
Security forces said Friday's search operation had turned into an encounter after the terrorists hiding in the forest area in the south Kashmir district's Akhal opened fire at the forces.
The SOG, J&K Police, Army, and CRPF are conducting this retaliatory encounter, which has continued for a second day on Saturday.
According to Chinar Corps, the Indian Army tweeted, the 'intermittent and intense firefight continued through the night.'
'Alert troops responded with calibrated fire and tightened the nooze while maintaining contact. One terrorist has been neutralised by the security forces so far,' they said.
The operation, Op Akhal, is continuing, they added.
On Friday, the security forces launched a cordon and search operation in Akhal after receiving specific intelligence inputs about the presence of terrorists there.
The official said the cordon is being strengthened, and additional reinforcements have been rushed to the area.
This comes days after three terrorists were killed in an intense firefight with security forces in the Harwan area near Dachigam National Park of Srinagar in Jammu and Kashmir.
The anti-terror operation, named Op Mahadev, took place in the general area of Lidwas, the Chinar Corps of the Indian Army said.

Army says no ceasefire violation along LoC
NEW DELHI: The Army on Tuesday said there has been no ceasefire violation along the Line of Control (LoC) in Jammu and Kashmir. "There have been some media and social media reports regarding ceasefire violation in Poonch region. It is clarified that there has been no ceasefire violation along the LoC. Please avoid spreading unverified information," the Army said in a statement here. Earlier, official sources in Jammu said the Pakistan Army had on Tuesday evening indulged in "unprovoked" firing on forward Indian posts along the LoC, prompting strong retaliation by the Indian Army. The exchange of small arms firing between the two sides continued for nearly 15 minutes in the Mankote sector but there was no immediate report of any casualties, the sources had said, adding it was the first instance of ceasefire violation since Operation Sindoor. Indian and Pakistani militaries engaged in intense clashes between May 7 and 10 after India launched missile strikes targeting terror infrastructure across the border under Operation Sindoor to avenge the Pahalgam terror attack. The border clashes, however, died down after the two countries reached an understanding. At least 28 persons were killed in Pakistani shelling, missile and drone attacks along the LoC in J-K with 13 of these deaths reported in Poonch district alone.

Drug peddler tries to run over cops during raid, held
Ahmedabad: A drug peddler allegedly attempted to run over a cop with his car during a raid by the special operations group (SOG) on Ashram Road in the city, prompting the registration of an FIR with the detection of crime branch (DCB) on Aug 1, SOG officials said on Tuesday. Tired of too many ads? go ad free now According to the complaint filed by sub-inspector R K Vania with DCB police, SOG inspectors Mitesh Trivedi and V H Joshi received a tip-off that Mohammed Hamza alias Mulla Sheikh, a resident of Behrampura, would arrive in a white car to sell mephedrone. Acting on the input, the SOG team reached the location around 5.55 pm on July 31. As Hamza arrived, the officers signalled him to stop. Instead, he locked the doors and attempted to flee, ramming into a police constable's two-wheeler. The bike fell, and the car's tyre climbed over it—narrowly missing the constable. While reversing, Hamza hit another police motorcycle. Constables Bhagyadeep and Kuldeep managed to enter the vehicle from the passenger side, switched off the ignition, and apprehended Hamza. A search led to the recovery of 58.1g of mephedrone worth Rs 5.81 lakh from a black pouch in his possession. Police also seized a digital weighing scale, small-sized empty ziplock packets, two mobile phones, and the vehicle — bringing the total seizure value to Rs 10.91 lakh. During interrogation, Hamza confessed that he had sourced the drugs from Maqbul Pathan, a resident of Relief Road, and admitted to panicking and trying to escape upon spotting the cops. He was booked under the NDPS Act, and also charged with attempt to murder and causing harm to govt officials performing their duty.
