Janaza-Ghaib: Symbolic funeral of Pahalgam attacker in POK confirms Pakistan's role in attack, says report
The funeral in absentia of Tahir Habib, an ex-Pak Army soldier and Lashkar terrorist killed in Op Mahadev, was held in Pakistan-occupied Kashmir, offering fresh proof of Islamabad's role in the April 22 Pahalgam terror attack that killed 26 civilians. read more Indian security officers inspect the site in Pahalgam where militants indiscriminately opened fired at tourists at Pahalgam. AP File The funeral in absentia (Janaza-Ghaib) of Tahir Habib, a former Pakistan Army soldier and Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT) operative killed during Operation Mahadev in Jammu & Kashmir, was recently held in his native village of Khai Gala in Pakistan-occupied Kashmir (POK), The Times of India reported. The event further reinforces evidence of Islamabad's involvement in the April 22 Pahalgam terror attack, which left 26 civilians dead. Visuals shared on Telegram show elderly residents of Khai Gala offering prayers for Tahir, who was one of the key operatives behind the Pahalgam massacre. The funeral adds to mounting proof that the attack was executed by terrorists from across the border, with clear interstate and cross-border links. STORY CONTINUES BELOW THIS AD The gathering turned tense when local LeT commander Rizwan Hanif attempted to join the funeral, despite explicit objections from Tahir's family. A heated confrontation followed, highlighting growing friction even within militant circles. Tahir, classified as a Category 'A' terrorist, had long been on the radar of Indian security agencies for his involvement in cross-border militancy. His killing, along with two others in Srinagar last week, marked a major breakthrough for Indian forces. According to a local source, Lashkar operatives even threatened mourners at gunpoint, triggering outrage in the village. 'People here have long been uneasy about radicalisation. After this incident, Khai Gala residents are planning a public boycott against terror recruitment,' the source said. This incident not only reaffirms Pakistan's direct hand in the Pahalgam attack, but also reflects a growing resistance in POK against Pakistan's terror machinery. It also signals the far-reaching impact of Operation Sindoor, India's counter-offensive launched in response to the April 22 strike. On April 22, Pakistan-backed and trained terrorists opened fire on tourists in Pahalgam, a popular destination in Jammu and Kashmir, killing 26 civilians in one of the deadliest attacks in the Valley in recent years. Pakistan has long been accused of using terror as an instrument of state policy. Groups like Lashkar-e-Taiba and Jaish-e-Mohammed, backed by Islamabad, have repeatedly targeted civilians in Kashmir and beyond. STORY CONTINUES BELOW THIS AD

Op Akhal: One terrorist killed in encounter with security forces in J-K's Kulgam; operation continues
One terrorist has been killed in an encounter between security forces and terrorists in Jammu and Kashmir's Kulgam district on Saturday, police said. Security forces said Friday's search operation had turned into an encounter after the terrorists hiding in the forest area in the south Kashmir district's Akhal opened fire at the forces. The SOG, J&K Police, Army, and CRPF are conducting this retaliatory encounter, which has continued for a second day on Saturday. According to Chinar Corps, the Indian Army tweeted, the 'intermittent and intense firefight continued through the night.' 'Alert troops responded with calibrated fire and tightened the nooze while maintaining contact. One terrorist has been neutralised by the security forces so far,' they said. The operation, Op Akhal, is continuing, they added. On Friday, the security forces launched a cordon and search operation in Akhal after receiving specific intelligence inputs about the presence of terrorists there. The official said the cordon is being strengthened, and additional reinforcements have been rushed to the area. This comes days after three terrorists were killed in an intense firefight with security forces in the Harwan area near Dachigam National Park of Srinagar in Jammu and Kashmir. The anti-terror operation, named Op Mahadev, took place in the general area of Lidwas, the Chinar Corps of the Indian Army said.

2 terrorists killed near LoC, infiltration bid foiled
File photo JAMMU: Soldiers gunned down two terrorists early Wednesday during a fierce gunfight near the LoC in Poonch district of J&K, foiling an infiltration attempt based on joint intelligence inputs from military and police sources. The shooting started after troops spotted suspicious movement in a forested area close to the LoC. 'The operation was based on credible inputs from military intelligence and J&K police regarding the presence of terrorists in the area,' said defence PRO Lt Col Suneel Bartwal. Troops found two assault rifles, a pistol with ammunition, hand grenades, IEDs, and a cache of other war-like stores, including medicines, a communication device, and logistical supplies. The area remains under cordon as a search operation continues. Wednesday's killings come days after three terrorists linked to the April 22 Pahalgam attack were shot dead in Srinagar under 'Op Mahadev' on July 28.

"Congress Gave Away PoK, BJP WIll Get It Back": Amit Shah In Rajya Sabha
New Delhi: Union Home Minister Amit Shah issued a strong response to the Special discussion on Operation Sindoor in Rajya Sabha today -- complete with a message to terrorists, a promise to "get back Pakistan-Occupied Kashmir" and multiple jibes at the Opposition, especially the Congress. There was also a chilling detail from the minister about Operation Mahadev, in which, the government said, the terrorists involved in the Pahalgam attack was killed. "After Pahalgam terror attack, I had received a lot of calls from the relatives of the people who were killed. They requested me to kill these terrorists by firing bullet to their heads. Our officials killed them by shooting on their heads," said the minister. "The identity of 3 terrorists killed in Op Mahadev established Lashkar-e-Taiba's hand in Pahalgam attack," added Mr Shah, who had spent the night confirming that it was indeed the Pahalgam terrorists who were killed in the encounter with security forces near Srinagar on Monday with the help of ballistic reports. The government had said the bullet casings recovered from the spot had a 99 percent match with the casings found in Pahalgam. "I want to give a strong message that Kashmir will be free of terrorism," Mr Shah told the Upper House this evening. "I also met family members of Pahalgam terror attack... they all were wailing at the loss of their loved ones... Terrorists had killed their family members after asking their religion," he said. The Home Minister's speech was preceded by protests by the Congress, which questioned why Prime Minister Narendra Modi was not present in the house and replying to the discussion. The party then staged a walkout, skipping the minister's response. Unperturbed, the minister delivered a jibe: "The Congress gave away Pak-occupied-Kashmir to Pakistan, but BJP govt will get Pakistan-Occupied Kashmir back... Till now, they have not done anything to stop cannot listen to anything."

'I have not seen them, I do not know who they are. Only those who have seen them (the terrorists), can identify them." This came after Amit Shah announced in the Lok Sabha on Tuesday that Suleiman Shah alias Hashim Musa, and two others – identified as Jibran and Hamza Afghani – were killed in the Dachigam encounter in Srinagar under 'Operation Mahadev' on Monday. 'In the freezing heights, our Army and IB officers kept moving through the terrain to intercept their signals. On July 22, their presence in the area was finally confirmed. The Army, CRPF, and the Jammu and Kashmir Police jointly carried out a coordinated operation to surround them," Amit Shah said.
