Shaquille O'Neal delivers scathing assessment of NBA's direction as Finals approach
Basketball Hall of Famer Shaquille O'Neal is not happy with the current state of NBA basketball. O'Neal, 53, lamented how the game had gone "soft." "The league is getting soft, the game is getting soft and it's going to take a couple of people to bring it back," O'Neal said during a recent appearance on "New Heights." The 15-time NBA All-Star does not like the trend of centers shooting 3-pointers and prefers the big men dominating in the paint. "Like, I hate big guys shooting (3-pointers). Victor Wembanyama is a great player, but I would love to just see him dominate so much that people start complaining, and they change the rules like when I did. I could shoot, but I'm not going to shoot a (3-pointer)," O'Neal said. "Why would I shoot a (3-pointer) when I could put your little a-- in the basket and dunk on you and put these balls in your face." O'Neal also expressed his disdain for the current NBA All-Star game format. "Our NBA All-Star format is terrible. I don't know who's in charge, but it's terrible," O'Neal said. The NBA's format this season had four different teams in a mini-tournament drafted by O'Neal, Charles Barkley and Kenny Smith. The fourth team in the format was the winner of the Rising Stars challenge. Over the years, the NBA has tinkered with the format in hopes of getting more effort from players. Regardless of the format, the players have not given 100% effort during the game and the product has declined. NBA Commissioner Adam Silver said next year's All-Star game will be USA vs. World, but he is "not exactly sure what the format will be yet" during a recent appearance on "Breakfast Ball." The NBA Finals begin Thursday at 8:30 p.m. ET between the Oklahoma City Thunder and the Indiana Pacers. One of Indianapolis Colts' 3 preseason games in 2025 to be broadcast on NFL Network
One of Indianapolis Colts' 3 preseason games in 2025 to be broadcast on NFL Network One of the Indianapolis Colts' three preseason games will be broadcast live on the NFL Network in August. One of the Indianapolis Colts' three preseason games will be broadcast live on the NFL Network in August. League-wide, there will be 21 preseason games broadcast nationally on the NFL Network during that three-week span, with the Indianapolis Colts vs. Baltimore Ravens being aired at 7:00 PM ET on Thursday, August 7th, to open up the preseason action in Week 1. In addition to the Colts kicking off their preseason on the road against the Ravens, the two teams will also have at least one joint practice prior to that matchup. It's also been confirmed by head coach Shane Steichen that the Colts will host the Green Bay Packers for a joint practice prior to their Week 2 preseason matchup. Throughout training camp and the preseason, all eyes will be on the Colts' quarterback competition between Anthony Richardson and Daniel Jones. As Shane Steichen has said, throughout the offseason and into the summer, the two will split the starting reps, and ultimately, the most consistent of the two will win the Week 1 job. Matt Goncalves at right guard, Tanor Bortolini at center, Tyler Warren at tight end, and Jaylon Carlies at linebacker will be some of the other players and position groups to keep our eyes on. "It is an open competition," Steichen said after last week's OTA practice. "Those guys are competing. We're breaking down the reps; they're both getting one reps, they're both getting two reps. I think through OTAs, we got nine good practices, they'll both get about 170 reps a piece with those guys, with the ones and twos. We'll flip-flop them." Indianapolis Colts' preseason schedule with dates and times Week 1 (Aug. 7): at Ravens, 7:00 PM Week 2 (Aug. 16): vs. Packers, 1:00 PM Week 3 (Aug. 23): at Bengals, 1:00 PM Local Colts fans will be able to watch these preseason games locally or listen in on the radio.

Lightning's Nikita Kucherov Wins Ted Lindsay Award – Is The Hart Trophy Next?
Tampa Bay Lightning right winger Nikita Kucherov won the Ted Lindsay Award as the most outstanding player in the NHL this season. This is Kucherov's second time winning the Ted Lindsay after his fellow members of the NHL Players' Association also voted him as the recipient in 2018-19. Advertisement Much like Florida Panthers captain Aleksander Barkov, who received the Selke Trophy and King Clancy Trophy, Kucherov received the trophy as a surprise with his teammates and other staff in the room. The Russian forward was called into GM Julien BriseBois' office while the rest of the team gathered outside the room with the Ted Lindsay Award. In BriseBois' conversation with Kucherov, he suggested there is an award show in Los Angeles and asked Kucherov if he wanted the trophy delivered to him instead of travelling to California. 'What trophy?' Kucherov asked. 'Well, if you win one,' BriseBois replied. Advertisement 'Oh, which is none,' Kucherov said. After that conversation ended, Lightning captain Victor Hedman stood in the other room with his teammates and team staff, holding the Ted Lindsay Award. Kucherov had a big smile on his face as Hedman presented the trophy to him. 'Without you guys, I wouldn't have this, so thanks a lot to all of you and, you know, the rest of the guys, it really means a lot to me,' Kucherov said to those in the room. Kucherov is now the confirmed winner of the Ted Lindsay and the Art Ross Trophy after leading the NHL with 121 points. He's also won the Art Ross Trophy in 2023-24 and in 2018-19. Nikita Kucherov (Kim Klement Neitzel-Imagn Images) But Kucherov could still win another award. Advertisement Kucherov is also a finalist for the Hart Trophy as 'the player adjudged to be the most valuable to his team." He also won that award in 2018-19. Edmonton Oilers center Leon Draisaitl and Winnipeg Jets goaltender Connor Hellebuyck are the other finalists for the Hart. The winner for that award will be announced during the NHL's one-hour show on Thursday, June 12, at 6 p.m. ET. That said, Kucherov winning the Ted Lindsay could suggest another Hart Trophy win is on the way. It's fairly common for the Ted Lindsay winner to receive the Hart Trophy as well. In the last six seasons, the same player won both awards. There have only been separate winners of the awards twice since 2012-13. Advertisement Colorado Avalanche center Nathan MacKinnon won both last year. After him, it was Connor McDavid, Auston Matthews, McDavid again, Draisaitl and Kucherov.
