Trump Avoids Media Interaction As Putin Questioned On Civilian Killings In Ukraine
Last Updated: One journalist directed a sharp question at President Putin, asking when Russia would stop killing civilians in Ukraine. US President Donald Trump welcomed Russian President Vladimir Putin to Anchorage, Alaska, with a red carpet reception as the much-anticipated summit between the two leaders officially began. The two presidents briefly posed for the media before proceeding to the meeting venue, but not before facing a barrage of pointed questions from reporters. One journalist directed a sharp question at President Putin, asking when Russia would stop killing civilians in Ukraine. The Russian leader appeared startled and responded by pretending not to hear the question. President Trump glanced at Putin, and the two briefly exchanged words in what seemed to be a light, private conversation. Moments later, both leaders were seen smiling as Trump placed a hand on Putin's back, guiding him toward the presidential limousine, nicknamed 'The Beast." The pair then made their way to the main summit venue. Inside, the summit commenced under the banner 'Pursuing Peace." Seated with their respective envoys, Trump and Putin again posed for the press. Yet once more, Putin faced uncomfortable questions about civilian casualties in Ukraine. The moment was cut short when Trump abruptly ended the photo op, thanking the media. Putin, meanwhile, maintained a bemused expression, appearing surprised by the press's persistence. 🚨BREAKING: Shortly after a reporter asks Putin if he'll commit to stop killing innocent civilians, Trump KICKS out the press is protecting Putin. — CALL TO ACTIVISM (@CalltoActivism) August 15, 2025 The two leaders are expected to find a possible solution for the Russia-Ukraine conflict in today's high-stakes meet. view comments First Published: Disclaimer: Comments reflect users' views, not News18's. ‘Russia Killing On Day Of Negotiations': Zelenskyy Targets Putin As Trump Holds Alaska Summit
Last Updated: Donald Trump held Alaska summit with Vladimir Putin but left Zelenskyy out of it, raising fears among Ukrainians of his possible shift towards Moscow by the end of the meeting. Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said on Friday that Russia was still killing people and was not showing any intent to end the war, hours before the Alaska summit got underway. Donald Trump held a historic meeting with Vladimir Putin in Alaska on the backdrop of 'Pursuing Peace". He gave a red carpet welcome to the Russian President, and the two leaders shook hands in a warm welcome. 'On the day of negotiations, the Russians are killing as well. And that speaks volumes," Zelenskyy posted on X. 'There is no order, nor any signals from Moscow that it is preparing to end this war… they are also killing on the day of the negotiations," he said in a video address on social media. He affirmed that Ukraine was ready to work to bring the war to an end and said that Kyiv was counting on a 'strong position" from America. On the day of negotiations, the Russians are killing as well. And that speaks volumes. Recently, weʼve discussed with the U.S. and Europeans what can truly work. Everyone needs a just end to the war. Ukraine is ready to work as productively as possible to bring the war to an end,… — Volodymyr Zelenskyy / Володимир Зеленський (@ZelenskyyUa) August 15, 2025 'We are also receiving reports from Ukraine's regions following Russian strikes," he wrote. He called for a trilateral meeting with Putin, in which he is also one of the participants, stressing that only then can 'effective decisions" be possible. 'Russia must end the war that it itself started and has been dragging out for years. The killings must stop. A meeting of leaders is needed – at the very least, Ukraine, America, and the Russian side – and it is precisely in such a format that effective decisions are possible. Security guarantees are needed. Lasting peace is needed. Everyone knows the key objectives," he said. view comments Disclaimer: Comments reflect users' views, not News18's. Zelenskyy Urges India's Help To End Russia-Ukraine War As Trump Meets Putin At Alaska
Last Updated: Zelenskyy extended wishes to Modi on the occasion of India's Independence Day and referenced their recent phone call earlier this week. As US President Donald Trump and Russian President Vladimir Putin meet in Anchorage, Alaska, for talks aimed at ending the Russia-Ukraine war, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy has voiced strong concerns about being left out of the negotiations. Zelenskyy insists that no final deal should be reached without Ukraine's direct involvement. Amid mounting anxiety over the summit, Zelenskyy has turned to India, reaching out with a symbolic and timely message for Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi. Just hours before the Trump-Putin meeting began, Zelenskyy extended wishes to Modi on the occasion of India's Independence Day and referenced their recent phone call earlier this week. 'Our nations share the experience of standing up for freedom and dignity, as well as the pursuit of peace and development," Zelenskyy wrote. In the same message, the Ukrainian President expressed hope that India would step forward to play a role in ending the ongoing war. 'We hope that India will contribute to efforts aimed at ending the war, so that our freedom and sovereignty are truly secure," he added. Congratulations to the people of India, President @rashtrapatibhvn, and Prime Minister @narendramodi on the Independence Day!This week we had a good, candid conversation with Prime Minister @narendramodi when I had an opportunity to personally convey my best wishes on this… — Volodymyr Zelenskyy / Володимир Зеленський (@ZelenskyyUa) August 15, 2025 The message to India comes at a critical juncture, as President Putin sits down with Trump to explore possible solutions to the nearly four-year-long conflict. European leaders, along with Zelenskyy, remain wary of what concessions Trump might be willing to entertain. Earlier this week, Trump held a virtual meeting with Zelenskyy and several European heads of state, where he reiterated his support for Ukraine. According to two European diplomats who spoke to CNN, Trump told participants that he would advocate for an unconditional ceasefire during his discussions with Putin. The sources also noted that Trump stated the issue of Ukrainian territory was 'not for him to negotiate." Zelenskyy also held a separate call with US Special Envoy Steve Witkoff ahead of the summit. While he sees the Trump-Putin meeting as a symbolic win for Putin, Zelenskyy remains cautiously hopeful. Trump has hinted that if today's talks in Alaska go well, a trilateral summit involving Ukraine could follow. view comments First Published: August 16, 2025, 02:25 IST Disclaimer: Comments reflect users' views, not News18's.
