Keshav Mittal from Punjab has secured an All India Rank of 7 in the recently released National Eligibility cum Entrance Test (Undergraduate) or NEET (UG) 2025 exam. A native of Tapa Mandi town in Barnala district, Keshav said he always wanted to be a doctor and was inspired by his father, who is also a doctor.
'My father is also a doctor which aspired me to choose the medical field. Besides, I have always enjoyed studying chemistry and biology. Thus, medical was an obvious choice for me," said the 17-year-old.
Not only did he managed to grab a spot in the top 10 in the medical entrance exam, Keshav has been a bright student in school as well. He studied class 10 from Mother Teacher School, Barnala where in he secured 97.6 per cent in the CBSE board exams and completed class 12 from D.M. Public School with an impressive 98 per cent.
Talking about his preparation process for NEET 2025, Keshav said, 'I started my preparation process for NEET after class 10 exams. Right after my boards, when I chose my stream, I had in mind I have to crack the exam and started my deciding how to go about. I had a passion for Chemistry and Biology, and balanced school studies with NEET preparations at the same time. Along with notes, I also did self-study on a daily basis after school." He also took coaching classes from Allen.
The youngster stated that his hard work has finally paid off and acknowledged the significant contributions of his family, teachers, and friends. His father, who inspired him to take up medical, is himself a doctor.
'One must have faith in himself. It is easy to lose faith and confidence during the preparation journey. But one must keep confidence and with the help and guidance of teachers and parents, they will be able to crack the exam," he told News18.
Keshav now plans to take admission at the MBBS course offered by AIIMS Delhi.

Work on PGI's Sarangpur MBBS college to begin by year-end
Work on the much-awaited 100-bedded MBBS medical college in Sarangpur is expected to begin by year-end, Dr Vivek Lal, director of the Post Graduate Institute of Medical Education and Research, shared on Tuesday. The hospital has sent the detailed project report of the ₹987-crore Sarangpur project, which will also include an Advanced Cancer Institute, a Trauma Centre and outpatient departments (OPDs) for 16,000 patients, to the Union ministry of health and family welfare, Dr Lal said while addressing a press conference at Kairon block. PGIMER had received approval for the Sarangpur project by the Institute Body, the top decision-making body of the premier medical institute, in May. Union health minister Jagat Prakash Nadda, who had chaired the meeting, had then directed PGIMER to prepare and submit a detailed project report (DPR) to the health ministry. 'I am confident that the foundation stone for the medical college will be laid by the end of this year. The government is very keen to increase the number of MBBS seats. Sarangpur college will enrol 100 students, and offer hostels and other facilities,' Dr Lal. Speaking later to HT, he revealed that once work begins, the entire multi-crore project should be ready in three to four years. The project is aimed at significantly expanding the institute's healthcare and training infrastructure in the region. So far, PGIMER has only offered postgraduate courses, such as MD and MS, while MBBS seats in Chandigarh are available only at Government Medical College and Hospital, Sector 32. PGIMER had first announced plans to develop health facilities in Sarangpur in 2017 to ease patient load. Initially, the proposal involved shifting trauma, cancer, and kidney transplant services to the 50-acre site. After obtaining land possession on lease from the UT administration in 2021, the proposal was revised to include a new MBBS college, Advanced Cancer Institute, Trauma Centre and OPDs. But only the boundary wall has been constructed since 2022. PGIMER has also set the ball rolling for an all-weather swimming pool for staff and students, a Trolley Way to streamline patient transfers between high-traffic blocks and a Doctors' Cafeteria on the fourth floor of Block A. MORE PROJECTS PICKING UP SPEED Advanced Neuroscience Centre: Launch by Sept Dr Vivek Lal detailed that the ₹284-crore Advanced Neurosciences Centre had been delayed due to the health ministry declining the machine procurement proposal over budget constraints. 'A fresh proposal is being worked upon and we plan to start the OPD services by September first week,' he added. In the works since October 2019, the 300-bedded centre will offer treatment for neurological and neuroscience disorders, including critical and emergency services. The top floor will house 11 operation theatres for cerebrovascular surgery, skull base surgery and spinal functional neurosurgery, among other services. Advanced Mother and Childcare Centre: Launch by Jan 2026 For the launch of the ₹182-crore Advanced Mother and Childcare Centre, the institute is awaiting approval for creation of staff positions from central government's department of expenditure. Machines have already been procured. The centre, being constructed since March 2021, features six floors with two basements, housing 300 beds for obstetrics, newborns, neonatal care, a Level 3 neonatal intensive care unit (NICU), six modular operation theatres, high-risk maternity units and a human milk bank. Multi-level parking: Launch by November Hanging fire for a decade, the long-delayed multi-level parking building is expected to be ready by November. Located opposite the New OPD building, the 800-car parking has missed several deadlines despite the rising parking chaos on the campus. The project, with a budget of around ₹50 crore, had received approval from the Standing Finance Committee in 2015.

14 students from state score 100 percentile in MHT-CET for Sciences
Mumbai: Fourteen students from the state have scored a perfect 100 percentile in the Maharashtra Technical Common Entrance Test (MHT-CET) for pharmacy and agriculture undergraduate courses, whose results were declared on Tuesday. Many CET toppers also performed exceptionally well in the National Eligibility cum Entrance Test (NEET) and wish to pursue medicine. Anshika Shah, a Charni Road resident, has decided to pursue medical education despite securing 100 percentile in CET. Her interest in pursuing medicine stems from her aunt and uncle who are in the medical field. Trisha Sawant from Mulund, who scored 100 percentile in CET and All India Rank (AIR) 3309, wants to pursue a medical degree. She is the daughter of an engineer working in a private firm and her interest in Biology inspires her to become a doctor. 'I studied for the NEET examination, which helped me crack CET easily. I used to study as per the instructions of my teachers, which helped me to achieve this success,' she added. Apurva Kapade, a Nerul resident, who succeeded in NEET as well as JEE Advanced, said 100 percentile has boosted her confidence. He was a student of Ryan International school till class 10 and further studied in a private coaching centre for both national-level examinations. 'I like biology so I am choosing medical education as my career,' said Kapade. Another student from Mumbai, Arya Yadav, has also scored 100 percentile. The MHT-CET exam for the Physics, Chemistry, and Biology (PCB) group examination was held from April 22 to 30. Of the 3,01,072 registered students, 2,82,734 took the test. This year, the number of meritorious students scoring between 90 to 100 percentile has decreased by 1,390 compared to last year. The 100 percentile, which was achieved by 17 students last year, has been reduced to 14 this year. The number of students scoring 80 to 89.99 has also decreased by 1,451 students.

Air India Crash: 163 Victims Identified, 124 Bodies Handed Over To Families
Ahmedabad: Five days after an Air India plane crash in Ahmedabad claimed 270 lives, 163 victims have so far been identified through DNA matching and 124 bodies handed over to their families, officials said on Tuesday. Authorities are carrying out DNA tests to establish the identity of the victims as many bodies were charred beyond recognition or damaged. "So far, 163 DNA samples have been matched, and 124 bodies have been handed over to the respective families. Remaining mortal remains will be handed over soon," Medical Superintendent of Ahmedabad Civil Hospital Dr Rakesh Joshi told reporters. Of the 71 injured persons admitted to the hospital after the crash, nine are currently undergoing treatment while two died during treatment, said Joshi. He dismissed reports which claimed two more MBBS students of BJ Medical College, affiliated to the Civil Hospital, were killed in the crash. "I want to clarify that only four students of BJMC were killed in the crash and there is no change in that count. Of those two doctors who were also killed, one was on board the flight while another was from Surat and came to the hostel to meet his sister who married a resident doctor," said Joshi. He hoped that the DNA profiling of all the victims would be completed by either Tuesday evening or Wednesday morning. All but one of the 242 persons on board the Boeing 787-8 Dreamliner were killed after it crashed into a medical college complex in Ahmedabad moments after taking off from the Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel International Airport at 1.39 pm on June 12. A total of 29 persons were killed on the ground.
