Chido and Kone primed for Brentford role

BBC News30-04-2025

Manchester United duo Chido Obi and Sekou Kone look certain to be involved at Brentford on Sunday after being named in Ruben Amorim's Europa League travelling squad even though they cannot play.Obi was signed from Arsenal and Kone from Mali-based club Guidars earlier this season so they could not be named on the club's 'B' list for European competition. However, Amorim has elected to keep his squad in Spain overnight after the first leg of their Europa League semi-final with Athletic Bilbao and is planning a full training session on Friday before returning to Manchester.Amorim is expected to make a significant number of changes for the Brentford game and his decision to involve Chido and Kone this week indicates they will play some part at Gtech Community Stadium.Seventeen-year-old Chido made his sixth substitute appearance for United in the 1-1 draw at Bournemouth on 27 April, while Kone, 19, is yet to make his debut.

Scott McTominay and Kieran Tierney out of Liechtenstein clash as Steve Clarke dealt another blow

The Scots take on the European minnows in Vaduz on Monday night Scott McTominay and Kieran Tierney have both pulled out of Scotland's friendly clash with Liechtenstein. The duo started in Friday night's disappointing 3-1 defeat to Iceland at Hampden. Defender Tierney - who will seal a sensational return to Celtic from Arsenal next month - played the first 68 minutes while Napoli title winner McTominay was replaced with 10 minutes remaining. ‌ It serves as a further blow to boss Steve Clarke who has been forced to draft two uncapped goalkeepers into his squad. ‌ Ross Doohan - who is expected to sign for Celtic after leaving Aberdeen - and AFC Bournemouth teen Callan McKenna have both been brought in as last minute call-ups after first choice stopper Gunn and back-up Robby McCrorie both pulled out. Gunn limped off in the early stages of the loss to Iceland on Friday and with McCrorie picking up an injury in the warm-up, uncapped Ipswich keeper Cieran Slicker had to be brought on having played just nine minutes of senior football in his career. The former Manchester City youngster had a debut to forget and made errors that led to all three goals conceded by the Scots that has extended their miserable run of form to just four wins in their last 20 matches in all competitions. Clarke's men will be expected to score a convincing victory against minnows Liechtenstein when the sides face off in Vaduz but the national team boss knows the importance of trying to regain some confidence ahead of the 2026 World Cup qualifying campaign. Uncapped quartet Josh Doig, Connor Barron, Andy Irving and Kieron Bowie will be hoping to make their senior bows tomorrow night. The likes of Che Adams, Scott McKenna and Nathan Patterson could also be handed starts if Clarke decides to shake things up. ‌ Scotland kick off their quest to reach the finals in North America next year with a tough trip to take on Denmark in Copenhagen on September 5. Three days later, the Tartan Army will be on the road again to face Belarus, although the game will not take place on Belarussian soil due to the nation's involvement in Russia's invasion of Ukraine. The Scots will finish off their first round of fixtures in Group C by hosting Denmark in Glasgow's south side on October 9. They will be out for revenge against the Greeks, who sent them toiling down to Nations League B back in March. Clarke's team had claimed a 1-0 away victory in the first leg of the relegation play-off, only to suffer a heavy 3-0 loss in the return fixture.

Benjamin Sesko to Arsenal transfer takes new twist with Chelsea ready to strike

Chelsea have already signed Liam Delap this summer, but the Blues are still pursuing a deal for another striker and that could lead them to gazump Arsenal for Benjamin Sesko Chelsea could rival Arsenal for the signature of Benjamin Sesko this summer, with the Gunners still yet to make up their minds. Sesko is on Arsenal 's shortlist as they look to sign a world-class striker in the summer transfer window, but so is Viktor Gyokeres – and that indecision could cost them. Mikel Arteta 's side know they need to splash the cash to sign a centre-forward this summer, having finished second in the Premier League for three straight seasons and come up short in the semi-finals of the Champions League. They have been monitoring Sesko for some time and came close to signing him last summer – yet their failure to move quickly could come back to bite them. ‌ Chelsea have already signed a striker this summer, having beaten Manchester United to the £30million signing of Liam Delap from Ipswich. Yet the Blues might not be done there, with another striker a real possibility. ‌ Enzo Maresca's side are currently locked in negotiations with Borussia Dortmund over the signing of winger Jamie Gittens. They have seen an initial offer of €35m (£29.5m) rejected by Dortmund, but are expected to return with an improved bid in the coming days. However, Sky Sports says they are also pondering whether to push for another striker, with Hugo Ekitike and Sesko on their shortlist. As Mirror Football have reported, Chelsea have reached an advanced stage of talks with Eintracht Frankfurt star Ekitike, who could cost £84m (€100m). But Sesko would represent a cheaper alternative, with Mirror Football understanding that the RB Leipzig striker is available for £60m this summer. Arsenal have held discussions with Leipzig and the Slovenian striker's representatives, yet nothing has been agreed. Arsenal already face competition from United for Gyokeres, who previously played under Ruben Amorim at Sporting, and now face fresh competition from Chelsea for Sesko. It is a tricky situation for the Gunners, who desperately need new firepower up front after injuries to Kai Havertz and Gabriel Jesus showed their limitations in the position. HAVE YOUR SAY! Which striker should Arsenal go for: Benjamin Sesko or Viktor Gyokeres? Comment below. ‌ Sesko pulled out of Slovenia's clash against Luxembourg on Friday to intensify speculation that he is about to seal a transfer away from Germany. Arsenal asked Leipzig about the possibility of signing Sesko in January, only to be told they would not sell mid-season. The 22-year-old striker scored 21 goals and notched six assists in all competitions for Leipzig last season. But Leipzig finished seventh in the Bundesliga to miss out on European football for 2025/26 and the time has come for them to cash in on their star player. Arsenal sporting director Andrea Berta is the man tasked with overseeing their transfer plans this summer. As well as a striker, that includes the £5m signing of Kepa Arrizabalaga from Chelsea to provide back-up to David Raya, and the £51m signing of Real Sociedad midfielder Martin Zubimendi.

PSG star 'tempted' by Man Utd transfer as Ruben Amorim considers major change

Manchester United no longer has the pull it once had but a PSG star is nonetheless willing to leave the Champions League winners to join the Premier League strugglers. United endured a miserable 2025-26 campaign under Erik ten Hag and his successor Ruben Amorim, finishing just 15th in the Premier League table, some 24 points outside the Champions League places. The Red Devils fared better in Europe but losing to Tottenham in the Europa League final means Manchester United will not be involved in any European competition next season. Paris Saint-Germain, in contrast, enjoyed a stunning 12 months, winning their first ever Champions League trophy and a domestic double under Luis Enrique. One of the key members of Enrique's squad, despite the abundance of attacking talent in Paris, was Italian goalkeeper Gianluigi Donnarumma. The 26-year-old European Championship winner produced a string of superb saves in PSG's Champions League knockout wins over Liverpool, Aston Villa and Arsenal. Given Donnarumma's influence in the French capital, it is a surprise that he has entered the final 12 months of his contract with PSG and yet to put pen to paper on a new deal. L'Equipe say contract talks began 'several months ago' but a positive outcome is still yet to be reached, with Donnarumma's camp said to be disappointed by the terms offered in earlier offers. The French outlet say a number of clubs are monitoring Donnarumma's situation, with Manchester United and Manchester City showing interest in bringing the shot-stopper to the Premier League. It is claimed Donnarumma is 'tempted' by switches to both clubs and has even discussed a move to the Premier League with some of his international teammates. United's interest in Donnarumma suggests Amorim is considering replacing current Old Trafford No. 1 Andre Onana, who endured an inconsistent season in Manchester. Onana featured in a Champions League final shortly before his £47m move from Inter Milan but has largely struggled at Manchester United. Man City, meanwhile, are looking for a long-term replacement for Ederson, who has spent almost a decade at the Etihad Stadium, lifting six league title. The 31-year-old Brazilian has been one of the best goalkeepers in the worldsince joining Manchester City but appears to be on the decline approaching his 32nd birthday. Asked about his future at PSG after lifting the Champions League trophy, Donnarumma said: 'I don't know yet what's going to happen. 'I haven't decided anything. For the moment, I want to focus on the matches with the national team, and nothing else. 'I will discuss the situation at the club in the coming days with the management and my staff. For now, it's still too early.' More Trending Donnarumma is not the only PSG player being linked with Manchester United. His teammate Goncalo Ramos has reportedly been offered to Sir Jim Ratcliffe. Amorim is desperate to sign a new striker this summer and Portugal international Ramos would be a cheaper alternative to Viktor Gyokeres and Benjamin Sesko. Ramos, 23, scored 18 goals for PSG last season and has nine goals in 15 games for Portugal. Manchester United considered a move for Ramos before his move to PSG in 2023 and Bruno Fernandes was at the time full of praise for his compatriot. For more stories like this, check our sport page.
