Relief For Elvish Yadav, Supreme Court Stays Trial Court Proceedings In Snake Venom Case

In a big development in the snake venom case involving Elvish Yadav, the Supreme Court has now granted a stay on trial court proceedings against the YouTuber. A Bench of Justices M.M. Sundresh and Joymalya Bagchi issued notice to the Uttar Pradesh government and the complainant Gaurav Gupta on Wednesday. The apex court was hearing Elvish's plea challenging the chargesheet and the criminal proceedings against him in the case.
What Is The Snake Venom Case Involving Elvish Yadav?
Elvish Yadav has been making headlines in connection to the Noida Snake Venom case for a long time now. The YouTuber was arrested by Noida Police in March 2024. The case was lodged under provisions of the Wildlife Protection Act, 1972 and for criminal conspiracy under section 120B of the Indian Penal Code, they said. A day after his arrest, NDTV claimed Elvish had admitted to his crimes. However, no official statement was released.
A week later, Yadav was granted bail, on a 50,000 bail bond. Talking about the same, his lawyer Prashant Rathi had said, 'Our arguments in this case was that he was falsely accused and no substance was obtained from him or his friends that violated the NDPS act. The court has granted bail to him (Elvish Yadav) as well as his two friends on two sureties of Rs 50,000 each."

In one of his previous YouTube vlogs, Bigg Boss OTT 2 winner answered several fan questions when he also recalled the time he spent in prison. 'Bhagwan na kare koi jail jaaye, bas itna hi kehna chahenge (God forbid anyone goes to jail, that's all I would like to say)," he said.
Prior to this too, in one of his vlogs, Yadav called the time in prison as a 'very bad phase of his life" and expressed his gratitude towards those who supported him. 'The one week that went by, no doubt, was a very bad phase of life. What to talk about the time I was inside (jail). Let's start a new chapter on a positive note. All those who supported me didn't support me, talked badly or well about me, thanks to all. I can only thank everyone. I am back to my work," he had said.

ED attaches Rs 29,176 bank deposit in cooker blast case
New Delhi: Funds worth Rs 29,176 kept in the bank account of an accused in the ISIS-inspired 2022 Mangaluru cooker bomb blast have been attached under the anti-money laundering law, the Enforcement Directorate (ED) said on Wednesday. The blast took place in an auto rickshaw at the outskirts of Mangaluru on November 19, 2022 and the man who was allegedly handling the explosives in the three-wheeler, Mohammed Shariq, was injured and was named as the main accused in the case. The bomb was supposed to be planted at the Dharmasthala Manjunatha Swamy Temple in Mangaluru. However, it exploded in the autorickshaw as the timer was set as 09 seconds instead of 90 minutes, the federal probe agency said in a statement. The ED filed a case under the Prevention of Money Laundering Act (PMLA) in November 2022, taking cognisance of a National Investigation Agency (NIA) FIR. The bank deposit of Rs 29,176 was kept in the bank account of another accused named Syed Yasin and it has been provisionally attached under the PMLA by an order issued by the Bengaluru office of the ED on August 5, the ED said. A chargesheet filed in the case by the NIA said that the blast was part of a plan of the banned terrorist group ISIS to spread terror, wage war against the Government of India and to threaten the integrity and sovereignty of India, it said. The agency said an online ISIS handler named 'Colonel' had given training over Wickr app/Telegram etc. to Shariq alias Premraj and some other accused to prepare an improvised explosive device (IED). He (Colonel) also arranged funds through certain mule (illegal) accounts and also through cryptocurrencies, which were 'encashed' by Yasin and Shariq through PoS (point of sale) agents. In some instances, the ED said, the encashed cryptocurrencies were routed through 'fraudulently opened mule accounts in FINO Payments Bank'. Funds worth Rs 2,86,008 were deposited by different cryptocurrency dealers in the mule accounts and Rs 41,680 was collected in cash, it said. The amount was 'utilised' for the purchase of some goods online to assemble the IED and for hiring 'hideouts' in Mysuru and other places and also for conducting reconnaissance at various places in Tamil Nadu, Kerala and Karnataka. The ED said another accused in the case, Maaz Munir, was the person who provided the details of the FINO payments bank mule accounts to Shariq so that he could receive payments sent by the online handler, Colonel.

Customs officials arrest passenger in Mumbai airport for smuggling hydroponic ganja worth ₹14.5 crore
The Customs Department officials arrested a passenger who arrived from Bangkok at the Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport early on Wednesday and seized suspected hydroponic cannabis weed valued at Rs 14.5 crore from his possession. The passenger was trying to smuggle the contraband, also called hydro ganja, by cleverly concealing it under clothes in his trolley bag. The customs department stated on Thursday that the passenger was stopped at the airport based on the passenger's spot profiling exercise. During the examination of the baggage, the officers recovered 14.548 kg of greenish product, suspected to be hydroponic weed, officials said. A sample of the contraband was tested in the narcotics field test kit, and its result prima facie confirmed that the seized item was hydroponic weed or marijuana, which has an illicit market value of approximately ₹14.5 crore, said a Customs source. The passenger was subsequently arrested under the provisions of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act, 1985, the customs officials stated. He told the officials that he was offered a hefty commission for smuggling the contraband, sources said. The Customs Department said that it was checking the international travel history of the passenger to confirm if he had travelled abroad for the same purpose. Investigators are also collecting the details of the carrier's handler and the person who was supposed to receive the consignment from him. Last week, the Customs officials arrested a passenger who was attempting to smuggle hydroponic weed by falsely declaring it as confidential diplomatic cargo linked to national security. The contraband was concealed inside envelopes bearing Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) markings and sealed with official MEA tape. The arrested passenger's bag also contained copies of various United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC) reports and fake top-secret mission reports.

Tourism Minister meets investors on theme parks, eco projects; launches ‘O Prema' film poster
VIJAYAWADA: Tourism Minister Kandula Durgesh met several investors at the Secretariat in Amaravati on Wednesday to discuss potential tourism projects in the state. Tourism Special Chief Secretary Ajay Jain participated in the meeting, reviewing proposals aimed at boosting the state's tourism sector. Representatives of Pangaea presented a plan to establish a theme park in the State, similar to those in Europe and Hong Kong, with an estimated investment of Rs 30-35 crore. The proposed park, to be set up on five acres, would include a wellness center and attractions inspired by Indian culture. Another proposal came from Ram Dev Rao, Chairman of Xperience, who suggested developing an eco-friendly park in Amaravati or near a beach, modeled after a project in Hyderabad. The park would feature a botanical garden and offer visitors a nature-based experience. Discussions were also held on setting up wellness centers and 50 tent cities in Araku, Lambasingi, Maredumilli, and Visakhapatnam, offering luxurious accommodation comparable to five-star hotels to attract high-end tourists. Durgesh also met AP Language and Culture Department Director Regulla Mallikarjuna Rao, who briefed him on the upcoming Har Ghar Tiranga program, aimed at encouraging citizens to hoist the national flag at their homes and foster patriotism ahead of Independence Day celebrations. Later, the minister launched the first look poster of the movie O Prema, directed by Chiranjeevi Krishnapalli and produced by Praveen KV under the banner of Screen Play Pictures. He extended his best wishes to the team for the film's success.
