ICC confirm England as host for WTC Finals in 2027, 2029, and 2031
The International Cricket Council (ICC) made several key decisions in the Annual General Meeting (AGM) in Singapore on Sunday. One among them is that the body has awarded England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) the hosting rights for the next three editions of the World Test Championship (WTC) finals. Therefore, the WTC finals of 2027, 2029, and 2031 will be held in England.
The ICC justified handing ECB hosting rights for the next three WTC finals by citing England's successful track record in hosting the event. Notably, all three WTC finals held so far have taken place in England.
STORY CONTINUES BELOW THIS AD
Challenging ECB's monopoly over the event, BCCI pushed its candidature in front of the ICC to host the WTC final but the body remained unbudged with its earlier stance. It was previously said, England gets to host the finals because of its weather conditions in July.
New associates join ICC
The ICC also announced the addition of the Timor-Leste Cricket Federation and the Zambia Cricket Union as associate members of the body, bringing the total count to 110.

The ICC also gave an update on the exiled Afghan Women's cricket team, which is being supported by three prominent boards after it faced a ban from the Taliban after they came to power in the country.
'This initiative is being advanced through a collaborative effort led by the ICC, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI), the England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB), and Cricket Australia (CA), under the supervision of ICC Deputy Chair Mr Imran Khwaja. The programme aims to deliver structured support through high-performance initiatives, domestic playing opportunities, and engagement at key ICC global events, including the ICC Women's Cricket World Cup 2025 in India and the ICC Women's T20 World Cup 2026 in England,' the ICC said.
More time for USA cricket
The ICC further stalled a decision on the future of USA cricket, which is enduring administrative issues and had been asked earlier to clean the house.
'ICC reiterated its previous position and confirmed that the organisation remains on notice. USA Cricket is required to undertake comprehensive governance reforms, including but not limited to completing free and fair elections within a three-month period. The Board, however, reserves the right to take such actions as it deems appropriate.'
The situation is extra grave because the USA will help host and participate in the 2028 Olympics.

Only One Ground Receives 'Very Good': ICC Reveals Pitch Ratings For India vs England Tests
Last Updated: The ICC rated pitches for the Tendulkar-Anderson Trophy, which ended 2-2. Shubman Gill led India with 754 runs, earning Player of the Series. Harry Brook led England with 481 runs. The International Cricket Council (ICC) has announced pitch ratings for the recently concluded Tendulkar-Anderson Trophy, which ended in a 2-2 draw. The five-match Test series between England and India saw all games reach the fifth day, with the Manchester Test being the only one to end in a draw. The opening Test at Headingley, Leeds, was rated 'very good' for both the pitch and the outfield. The second Test at Edgbaston, Birmingham, received a 'satisfactory' pitch rating, while its outfield was deemed 'very good'. The same ratings — 'satisfactory' for the pitch and 'very good' for the outfield — were maintained for the third and fourth Tests, played at Lord's, London, and Old Trafford, Manchester, respectively. IND vs ENG Anderson-Tendulkar Trophy Pitch Rating 1st Test – Headingley, Leeds Pitch: Very Good | Outfield: Very Good 2nd Test – Edgbaston, Birmingham Pitch: Satisfactory | Outfield: Very Good 3rd Test – Lord's, London The series proved to be one of the most dramatic contests in recent memory. England and India were locked at 2-2 going into the final game at The Oval, where Shubman Gill's young Indian side pulled off a thrilling six-run victory to level the series and secure the trophy. The nail-biting finish added to the spectacle of a series that had already provided plenty of drama, high-quality cricket, and individual brilliance. Shubman Gill emerged as the standout performer, finishing as the leading run-scorer of the series. The Indian skipper amassed a staggering 754 runs in 10 innings at an average of 75.40, which included four centuries. His consistent dominance with the bat earned him the Player of the Series award for India. For England, Harry Brook stood tall, scoring 481 runs at an average of 53. His aggressive stroke play and ability to deliver under pressure made him the hosts' Player of the Series. Rishabh Pant's tour of England ended in heartbreak as he suffered a freak injury, fracturing his right foot during the fourth Test in Manchester. With Pant ruled out of the deciding match, he now faces several weeks of rehabilitation, likely missing the Asia Cup. In July, Suryakumar had undergone surgery for a sports hernia in the lower-right abdomen in Munich, Germany, and then checked into the CoE for rehabilitation. Though Suryakumar showed in a video on his Instagram account on Friday that he's resumed batting at the CoE, IANS understands that the right-handed batter already began his batting practice from the fag end of last week. 'Can't wait to be back doing what I love,' wrote Suryakumar in the caption of the video, where he's also seen doing exercises and running, all of which are a part of building his workload towards full fitness. View this post on Instagram A post shared by Surya Kumar Yadav (SKY) (@surya_14kumar) Suryakumar enjoyed a stellar run in the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025 by finishing as the tournament's Most Valuable Player (MVP) after scoring 717 runs for the Mumbai Indians (MI), who played in Qualifier 2.
