VINCI unit secures Eastern Freeway upgrade contract in Australia

Seymour Whyte, VINCI Construction's Australian subsidiary, has received a contract to upgrade the Eastern Freeway in Melbourne, Victoria. Specifically, the company will be responsible for enhancing the Hoddle to Burke section of the road as part of a design-and-build alliance. This alliance also includes John Holland, Jacobs, Mott MacDonald, and Major Road Projects Victoria. The construction contract is valued at around €450m ($524m), with Seymour Whyte and John Holland sharing the work on a 50:50 basis. The project is set for completion by mid-2028. It entails adding one lane in each direction and building a new dedicated busway. The project also involves the construction of shared-use paths, several civil structures, and noise barriers. Meanwhile, last month, Seymour Whyte obtained three contracts in Australia worth a combined €431m across Queensland and New South Wales. These comprise the construction of a 4.4km section of the Coomera Connector Stage 1 South on the Gold Coast, the M5 Motorway Westbound Upgrade in Sydney, and a 1.1km road upgrade with a 212m flood-resistant bridge over the North Pine River in Moreton Bay. In 2024, the company also secured two contracts worth a total of A$340m for the 3.8km Mamre Road upgrade in Sydney, as well as the Clyde Road enhancement in Melbourne for Major Road Projects Victoria. The Clyde Road and Mamre Road projects are due to be completed by 2027 and 2028, respectively.
