NBA releases 2025-26 schedule, all teams getting at least two national TV games
The reason: There simply are more national games than ever, now that the league's new 11-year, $76 billion agreements with ABC-ESPN, NBC-Peacock and Amazon Prime Video are about to formally begin.
There will be 247 games scheduled on those networks this season, up from 172 last season between ABC, ESPN and TNT.
Other notes from this season's schedule release:
Election Day
The NBA, which did not play on Election Day in 2022, 2023 or 2024, will have games on that date this season. It falls on Nov. 4.
The NBA champion Oklahoma City Thunder play the Los Angeles Clippers as part of the six-game slate on that date.
There is one special election to fill a congressional seat on that date this year, along with two gubernatorial races and numerous state and local races. The NBA still plans to not have games on Election Days during midterm and Presidential election years, which would mean no games on those dates in 2026 or 2028.
NCAA championship
There will be games this season on April 6, the day of the NCAA men's basketball national championship game in Indianapolis.
Atlanta, Orlando, Memphis, San Antonio and Denver all host games on that date. The Knicks at Atlanta is the Peacock game.
There were two games on NCAA title day last season, breaking the unofficial tradition of the league not playing on that night.
The last day
The final day of the regular season is April 12, and all 30 teams will be playing. But the league is rolling back the start times; all games were at either 1 p.m. or 3:30 p.m. Eastern last season, and it'll be either 6 p.m. or 8:30 p.m. this season.
One advantage to that: All games will end, and some will be played in their entirety, after the final putt drops in the final round of the Masters at Augusta National Golf Club that same day. The Masters typically ends around 7 p.m. Eastern.
All 30 teams also will play on Friday, April 10. There are no games on Saturday, April 11. The play-in tournament begins on April 14.
Marquee game protection
The league tried again this season to minimize back-to-backs (the average is just under 15 of those per team) in an effort to keep teams as rested as possible.
That rule also will apply to marquee games. No team will play the day before having games during opening week, the NBA Cup tournament, Christmas Day (nobody plays on Dec. 24), the four games on Peacock or NBC on Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Day, the 10-game ABC Saturday schedule, the eight-game ABC Sunday schedule or the 11-game NBC Sunday schedule.
80 games, for now
As usual, all teams will play 82 regular-season games. The schedules released this week only list 80, since the two remaining slots will be filled depending on how teams fare in round-robin play during the NBA Cup.
The NBA Cup championship game in Las Vegas will once again not count in the schedule for those teams, since it technically would push their season total to 83 games.
Luka in Dallas
Luka Doncic and the Los Angeles Lakers will face his former team, the Dallas Mavericks, four times this season.
The games at Dallas are Jan. 24 (on ABC) and April 5 (on NBC/Peacock). The games in Los Angeles are Nov. 28 (on Prime) and Feb. 12 (on Prime).
Finals rematches
Oklahoma City and Indiana won't wait long for a rematch of last season's NBA Finals. The Thunder go to Indianapolis on Oct. 23.
The Pacers go back to Oklahoma City on Jan. 23.
New TV deals
For the most part, the NBA's 2025-26 national telecast schedule generally will feature Mondays on Peacock, Tuesdays on NBC, Wednesdays on ESPN, Thursdays on Prime Video, Fridays on Prime Video and ESPN, Saturdays on Prime Video in the afternoon and ABC at night, and Sundays on ABC in the afternoon and NBC at night.

Aug. 14—CANTON — SUNY Canton announced the promotion of two members of its men's hockey staff Thursday, adding Christiano Versich as an associate head coach. Head coach Alex Boak promoted Versich, a former assistant coach for the Kangaroos, and also elevated former volunteer assistant Trevor Christopher to assistant coach. Versich, who played NCAA Division I hockey for Colorado College, has spent the past two seasons as an assistant, helping SUNY Canton transition to the State University of New York Athletic Conference. "Christiano has truly excelled in his role, bringing invaluable knowledge to our forward group and enhancing our power play," Boak said in the university's release. Christopher is a 2024 SUNY Canton graduate who played four years as a defenseman for the Roos, appearing in 48 games. He spent last season as a volunteer assistant for the team. SUNY Canton begins its 2025-26 season on Oct. 31 against Trine University in Canton. FOOTBALL SAINTS ADD 4 GRADUATE ASSISTANTS St. Lawrence University's football team announced Wednesday the addition of some familiar faces to the coaching squad as graduate assistants. Saints head coach Dan Puckhaber has appointed Teaghin Andre, Trey Everson, Josh Larson and Dainel Lawther to the coaching staff. Andre played for the Saints baseball team in 2024. Lawther and Larson, graduates last spring, each played for the St. Lawrence football team. Lawther was a three-year captain for the Saints and started four seasons at quarterback, appearing in 31 games and recording 398 completions and 28 touchdowns. Larson played tight end for the Saints. Everson graduated from Pace University where he played defensive back for the football team. He will work for the Saints as a defensive assistant, focusing on the cornerbacks. Larson will work as a coach on the defensive side. Lawther and Andre will coach the offense with Lawther working with the quarterbacks. The Saints open the season Sept. 5 with a 7 p.m. game against Norwich at Leckonby Stadium in Canton.

What is a 'show cause' penalty in the Michigan football punishment?
Jim Harbaugh's NCAA coaching career is pretty much over -- at least until 2038. That's how long he'll be under show-cause penalties thanks to NCAA investigations into improprieties along the Michigan Wolverines' sideline. Harbaugh spent nine season rebuilding his alma mater into a powerhouse. He left to return to the NFL after winning a national championship in 2023 -- right as a handful of scandals began crash around his program. Harbaugh was already under a four-year NCAA show-cause order and was suspended from the game for a full year after a previous investigation showed he had improper contact with recruits in the midst of the Covid-19 pandemic. A 10-year sentence handed down Friday will run consecutively with that penalty. When his first show-cause order runs out Aug. 7, 2028, his new countdown clock kicks in. What is an NCAA show-cause penalty? A show-cause penalty is used by the NCAA in cases involving serious rule violations and effectively pin a coach to his or her infractions for a certain amount of time. These orders include specific punishments that follow a coach across any job he or she may be interested in taking in the future. In Harbaugh's case, the NCAA ruling "restrict[s] him from all athletically related activities during the show-cause period." That effectively bans him from coaching in the college ranks for the next 13 years. It doesn't necessarily mean teams can't hire him, but he'll be beholden to the NCAA restrictions throughout his tenure. An interested team could plead its case to why a coach should be freed from his sanctions to take a new job -- showing cause as to why this new program shouldn't be penalized for hiring someone who has a checkered past. They'd have to lay out their argument to an NCAA panel and report back to that panel every six months to update it on the coach in question's progress. The NCAA cannot fire coaches. They can make them incredibly difficult to employ and make almost every other candidate in a job search more appealing. That's the show-cause penalty in a nutshell. How Steph Curry is preparing for Warriors season despite roster 'uncertainty' originally appeared on NBC Sports Bay Area The Warriors are the only team in the NBA who haven't made an offseason move leading up to the 82-game slate in 2025-26. But Golden State superstar guard Steph Curry isn't worried. At his Curry Camp on Thursday, the 11-time NBA All-Star detailed to reporters where his confidence in the Warriors comes from, particularly before training camp starts in late September. 'It's different, for sure,' Curry prefaced about Golden State's move-less offseason. 'But … my confidence is built on the identity that we were able to create over the last third of the regular season last year (and) the playoff journey. We have a really good team, and we do know we need some pieces to help get us to the next level. 'I think the veteran presence that we have — with me, Jimmy [Butler], Draymond [Green] – like, we understand how to prepare through that uncertainty and be able to hit the ground running in training camp, knowing we should have some movement by then.' Curry, a four-time NBA champion and 17-year veteran with his Warriors, isn't writing off the campaign before it even starts. And unlike those fairly critical of Golden State's current makeup, Curry is choosing to remember just how good the Warriors were after acquiring Butler right before the 2025 NBA trade deadline — they had a 23-7 regular-season record with Butler on the floor. Curry also lightly mentioned the Warriors' promising playoff run, which was cut short after he suffered a Grade 1 hamstring strain that kept him out of the devastating second-round series loss to the Minnesota Timberwolves. Whether it's the acquisition of veteran center Al Horford, the trading of up-and-coming forward Jonathan Kuminga or something else up Golden State's sleeve, Curry isn't losing any sleep over the Warriors' current roster. After all, he isn't the one making decisions. 'But, you control what you can control,' Curry said. And no matter how many new experiences you have or whatever the difference is from this offseason to the previous ones, you don't let it affect your own personal preparation for the season and then the conversations that we're having on what we need to do to get ready.'
