Op Sohor: MACC Received Information From Johor Regent
Its chief commissioner, Tan Sri Azam Baki said the Regent also wanted to curb smuggling at the country's borders.
"I would like to inform that His Royal Highness Tunku Mahkota Johor as Regent of Johor, has been very cooperative in this matter and wants such activities to be curbed," he told the media after the close of the Anti-Corruption Graduates Convention (KOMAWAR) here today, adding that the syndicate is believed to be focused only in the southern region of the country with no new arrests being made.
"I expect so far there has been no (new arrests), if there are any links, (for instance) when we look into money laundering it might be possible there are other parties benefitting from this activity, and if so, we will investigate further,' he said.
He also said that the commission was looking into the reasons behind the existence of the online media company that two of the suspects arrested under Op Sohor were working for and confirmed that both suspects were not from any mainstream media.
'They work for a company, which name I can't reveal, and we're looking into why it was set up,' Azam said, adding that they believed that both the suspects acted as enablers by leaking information to the syndicate.
The MACC had arrested five senior armed forces officers on Wednesday for allegedly leaking military operation information to smugglers and colluding with a syndicate to smuggle in contraband, including drugs and cigarettes, estimated to be worth RM5 million a month.
Meanwhile, Azam said during his speech at the close of KOMAWAR that it was organised not only to provide exposure and education on corruption and integrity but to instill values and build character among university students.
The biennial KOMAWAR's objective is to shape a generation of graduates to reject corruption and allow youth to support integrity and transparency in the country's administration, he added.

'Malam Himpunan Dan Selawat Malaysiaku Bersama Gaza' At Dataran Merdeka On Aug 24
KUALA LUMPUR, Aug 17 (Bernama) -- The "Malam Himpunan dan Selawat Malaysiaku Bersama Gaza" gathering will be held at Dataran Merdeka here on Aug 24 in conjunction with the Sumud Nusantara Carnival 2025. The three-day carnival, organised by MAPIM Malaysia and Cinta Gaza Malaysia in strategic collaboration with the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission, the Department of Islamic Development Malaysia and MyAqsaDefender, will take place from Aug 22. According to a spokesman of the organising secretariat, next Sunday's programme will begin at 5 pm with the arrival of the Sumud Nusantara Convoy, followed by a public address by Gaza figures and activists, congregational Maghrib prayers, and a special solat hajat led by Sheikh Abdul Karim Omar Al-Fatani Al-Makki. 'The programme will feature a 'Tausiyah Peduli Ummah' (lecture of care for the ummah) by Habib Ali Zainal Abidin Al-Hamid and Perlis Mufti Datuk Dr Mohd Asri Zainul Abidin, followed by a selawat and qasidah recital by the Az Zahir group,' the spokesman told Bernama. Adding to the significance, Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim is expected to attend and deliver a special address on that night. The highlight of that evening includes the symbolic flag-off of the Sumud Nusantara delegation for the Gaza Flotilla and Qunut Nazilah supplication before the event draws to a close at midnight. Chinese national assaults KLIA immigration officer
A CHINESE national was arrested at the Kuala Lumpur International Airport (KLIA) Terminal 1 yesterday for behaving aggressively and injuring an immigration officer during departure checks. According to Bernama, the incident occurred at around 7.40pm where the woman alongside a man and two children were at the immigration counter. The officer discovered that they had no entry records and referred the case to a supervisor for further review. A statement issued by the Border Control and Protection Agency (AKPS) explained that the suspect became upset when she was told to allow other passengers to proceed while her documents were being examined. The Chinese national then allegedly shouted abusive words at the officer, yanked her headscarf and pushed her head against a pillar in front of the counter. 'A minor scuffle broke out, and the suspect refused to calm down despite being instructed to do so. AKPS enforcement officers then called in the Aviation Security Team (AVSEC) to control the situation,' it said. The incident left the officer with swelling in her left eye, a headache on the right side of her head and body aches. She was then sent to Cyberjaya Hospital for treatment and to obtain a medical report. A police report has been filed and the suspect is currently in police custody for investigation under Section 186 of the Penal Code for obstructing a public servant, Section 332 for causing injury to a public servant and Section 353 for using criminal force against a public servant. AKPS stressed that it will not tolerate any form of violence, abuse or threats against officers on duty and expects the suspect to face appropriate legal action. Meanwhile, the Immigration Services Union Peninsular Malaysia (KPISM) strongly condemned the physical and verbal attack on the female officer. President Ajeet Singh stated that such actions undermine the sovereignty of Malaysian law and reminded tourists that they must respect the laws of any country they visit. 'Immigration officers are the frontline defenders of the nation's sovereignty.
