City reeling from County's eight goal blitz

Edinburgh City travelled to Dingwall to meet Ross County, a side recently relegated from the William Hill Premiership, and it was a night Citizens fans may wish to forget.
Don Cowie's men thrashed the men from Meadowbank Stadium 8-0 in the Premier Sports Cup, Group B, on Matchday four of five, three goals coming in the first-half and five in the second.
This left City boss Michael McIndoe with much to ponder on the long trip back to the Capital from the Highlands.
Northern Ireland international striker Ronan Hale completed his hat-trick with a penalty after 47 minutes after opening the scoring in 22 minutes. Jay Henderson added No 2 in 37 minutes and Hale was back on the scoresheet two minutes later.
He claimed his third from the penalty spot two minutes into the second half with Henderson netting his second after 57 minutes.
Joe Coyle scored a double after 76 and 89 minutes, his second completing the scoring, and Kieran Phillips also netted after 82 minutes.
Edinburgh City bosses thanked the 12 fans who travelled to support their team in the fixture and the dominant display from the second tier club who are close to sealing their spot in the next round.
Cowie was understandably pleased with the performance of his men and said: 'We had to be patient for the first goal and a real moment of quality from Ronan breaks the deadlock.
'You could see the freedom which came after that.
'I spoke at half-time when it was 3-0, could we kick on from there and be ruthless and we got the two goals right after half-time. Overall 8-0, two debuts for Academy graduates, so delighted.'
On a positive note, City gave two Academy graduates their first professional appearance and, overall, Ross County had 23 shots against ten in reply, 12 on target against two from the opposition, and enjoyed 54 per cent of possession against 46 per cent
Partick Thistle still top the section with nine points from three games, followed by County on seven points also from three starts.
Third are Queen of the South with three points from the same number of games, Stranraer are fourth on four points from three starts and City prop up the rest with two points from four games.

Livingston striker tipped to get into double figures in Premiership

Martindale, whose men take on Kilmarnock through at Rugby Park in their league opener tomorrow afternoon, secured the signing of Congolese international forward Bokila, who played in the Eredivisie in the Netherlands with Willem II last term, earlier this week. He joined Muirhead, who has had spells at [[Kilmarnock]], Dundee United and Hearts previously in his career, Rudden, who arrived from Queen's Park at the start of June, and Stevie May, who spent last season on loan in West Lothian from St Johnstone, in the promoted team's squad. Read more: However, the Livingston manager is confident that the former, who scored in Premier Sports Cup group games against lower league East Fife and Kelty Hearts last month, will be able to cope with the step up to the top flight and retain his place in the starting line-up in the months ahead. (Image: SNS Group) 'Robbie's got the No 9 jersey,' he said. 'He's back and it's his to lose. I spoke to Robbie and the other strikers about that. Robbie was unbelievable for us last season (the 29-year-old netted 19 goals in all competitions in the 2024/25 campaign). 'He had two moments in that play-off game against Ross County that got us promoted to the Premiership. He played a massive part in that. His goal in Dingwall was a world class goal, a phenomenal goal. That's what he brings. Read more: 'I think Robbie Muirhead's going to get double figures in the league this year. I'll be honest with you, I'll be very disappointed if he doesn't.' Martindale added, 'I've got Zac Rudden who's been very, very good in pre-season, and I've got Jeremy Bokila, who's 36-years-old and has a wealth of experience. But I do believe we need the options up front in the Premiership. 'Between the three of them, I feel that we've got 20 plus goals there. But I do think Robbie will be sitting in double figures in the league come the end of the season given the quality that he's got.'

Txiki Begiristain leaves role as Manchester City director of foootball

Begiristain announced he would be leaving the club in October 2024 and Hugo Viana is set to take over his role ahead of the new season. The 60-year-old joined City back in 2012 and saw the club achieve 21 trophies during his reign, including seven Premier League titles, two FA Cups and their first Champions League. City will celebrate Begiristain's achievements around the Manchester derby on September 14, where he will be the special guest for the match. Begiristain spent seven years as Barcelona's technical director between 2003 and 2010 before joining City and played an important role during Pep Guardiola's time in Spain as well as in England. Guardiola previously said a part of him will leave when Begiristain decides to walk away. He said: 'Part of me is leaving, I would say. 'A friend of mine and one of the architects of one of the best teams ever from Barcelona, and now here.'
