House Passes Musk's DOGE Cuts to PBS, NPR and Foreign Aid
The US House approved $9.4 billion in Elon Musk's DOGE federal spending cuts, with Republican moderates swallowing their concerns about cutting previously approved spending for foreign aid and public broadcasting.
The White House's spending cancellation package passed the House on a 214 to 212 vote. It faces a more uncertain future in the Senate where moderates have voiced opposition to some of the cuts and could strip them out of the package. Senate Majority Leader John Thune said the Senate may amend the package before it votes on it in July.

The Model S Plaid has fresh exterior styling that Tesla says is optimized for high-speed stability, but the updated car has a lower top speed than its predecessor. It's down from 200 miles per hour to 149 mph—a huge drop. At least it can still hit 60 miles per hour in 2.5 seconds. Tesla also has new wheel designs for the sedan and SUV, which improve aerodynamics and increase range. Tesla Model S and Model X Range Gains The updates have resulted in Tesla creating its longest-range EV ever—the Model S Long Range. The sedan can travel up to 410 miles on a charge, according to the company, while the Model S Plaid improves to 368 miles. The Model X can now go up to 38 miles more than before—352—while the Plaid gets a 21-mile bump in range to 335. The Model S now costs $86,630, while the Model S Plaid starts at $101,630. If you want the crossover, you'll pay $91,630 for the Model X with all-wheel drive and $106,630 for the high-performance Plaid variant. Teacher's collection of over 130 ancient Roman coins auctions for over $1 million
A collection of ancient Roman coins amassed by a former Latin teacher from Connecticut was sold at auction for over $1 million this week. Carol Ross' interest in ancient Roman currency and history led to her collection of over 130 coins. The sale of the coins was handled by New York auction house Doyle. One of the coins is a "fascinating, rare piece," the auction house said. The gold piece shows a "detailed and lifelike" portrait of Marcus Junius Brutus, likely the most well known of Julius Caesar's assassins. Doyle Only a handful of these coins are known to exist today, the auction house said, adding it would have been minted in Greece in 42 or 43 B.C. It was auctioned off for over $314,000, far outpacing an expected sale of between $100,000 and $150,000. Another impressive coin in the collection shows the emperor Augustus. The coin is "very rare" and bears imagery "associated with Augustus' symbolic transfer of power back to the Roman Senate after his defeat of Mark Antony" in 31 B.C., according to the auction house. It was likely made in Rome or at a Spanish Mint. That coin, which Ross described as "very important," sold for over $180,000. Some other coins in the collection were sold for as much as $30,000, while others went for as cheap as $120, according to Doyle's website.

Trump DOJ Veteran Aaron Reitz Announces Run For Texas AG
(Texas Scorecard) – Aaron Reitz, a former deputy attorney general under Ken Paxton and recent Trump administration appointee, announced his campaign for the Republican nomination for Texas attorney general. Reitz made the announcement Thursday, a day after resigning as assistant attorney general for legal policy under Pam Bondi in the Department of Justice. He previously served as Paxton's deputy attorney general for legal strategy and as chief of staff to U.S. Sen. Ted Cruz. 'We are in a fight for the soul of Texas, our nation, and Western civilization itself,' said Reitz in a campaign statement. 'This is no time for half-measures or untested cowards.' 'As Attorney General, I'll use every ounce of legal firepower to defend President Trump, crush the radical Left, advance the America and Texas First agenda, and look out for everyday Texans,' he added. Reitz said he would use the office to pursue policies aligned with President Donald Trump's agenda, including increased border security, mass deportations, opposition to progressive prosecutors, and efforts to uncover election fraud. He also pledged to target Big Tech, support law enforcement, and defend constitutional rights. 'I led the fight on virtually every major legal campaign that Texans care about,' said Reitz, referring to his time under Paxton. 'I stood shoulder-to-shoulder with Paxton to challenge the 2020 election when others ran scared.' His campaign announcement included praise from Trump, who described Reitz as 'a true MAGA attorney' and 'a warrior for our Constitution.' Reitz becomes the latest Republican to announce a campaign for attorney general, joining State Sen. Mayes Middleton. The race comes as current Attorney General Ken Paxton is not seeking re-election and is instead running for the U.S. Senate against incumbent Sen. John Cornyn. After Reitz resigned from his federal position yesterday, he was greeted with support from those in the Trump administration, including Attorney General Pam Bondi and FBI Director Kash Patel.
