Lack of coordination between Railways and Smart City delayed twin RuB commissioning: Chowta
Dakshina Kannada MP Captain Brijesh Chowta told officials of Mangaluru Smart City Ltd. and the Southern Railway to work in coordination to commission the twin Railway Underbridges (RuBs) on Morgan's Gate-Jeppinamogaru Road at Mahakalipadpu in the city.
Visiting the worksite with Mangaluru City South MLA D. Vedavyasa Kamath on Wednesday, Capt. Chowta said the delay in completing the project appeared to have been caused by the absence of coordination between the Railways and the MSCL. Even though the Railways pushed the concrete boxes for the RuB, concreting of the underpasses and approach roads could not be completed, he regretted.
Meanwhile, Smart City officials blamed untimely rains for the delay in commissioning the RuBs and said that water stagnation in the underpass was hindering the completion of the approach roads.
Railways has to lay a pipeline to pump and drain out stagnant water towards the Netravathi, after which the approach roads could be completed, they said. Notwithstanding these claims, the officials promised to open at least one carriageway of the underpass for traffic by July 15.
The Hindu had reported on June 2 about the opening of the RuBs, work on which had started in March 2021, getting stalled and thereby forcing people to endure the inconvenience indefinitely.
The then MP Nalin Kumar Kateel and Mr. Kamath had laid the foundation stone for the twin RuB project under 'deposit' scheme with the MSCL depositing ₹30.7 crore for the RuBs with the Railways, and the MP getting ₹19.87 crore from the MPLAD funds for the construction of the 1.07 km four-lane road. The work did not gain momentum for nearly a year thereafter and picked up only after December 2022, when the Railways closed the Mahakalipadpu Railway Level Crossing to all vehicles, except two-wheelers.

Indian Railways invites applications for K-Ride MD post to fast-track Bengaluru Suburban Rail project
BENGALURU: After a long gap to speed up completion of the Suburban Rail project, Indian Railways has put out an advertisement, calling for applications for the post of Managing Director of Rail Infrastructure Development Company (Karnataka) Limited (K-Ride). Experts and officials in K-Ride said this is a welcome and much-needed move to pace up the project. The Railways has listed details of the post which is for a duration of three years. According to K-Ride sources, the only time the department had a full time managing director was in 2021, when Amit Garg held the post. After that, many IAS officers have been posted, holding concurrent charge. 'With Railways inviting applications, it shows the push. But this is also late -- when the foundation for the project was laid in June 2022 by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, he had assured its completion in 40 months, and the term ends in October 2025. However, the MD's official posting will take at least another two months as the last date to submit applications for the post is July 5, 2025,' the source said. The government has listed out criteria details for the post: The applicant should not be above 55 years of age as on March 31, 2025. The applicant should have a minimum of 25 years experience of which at least five years should be in Senior Administrative Grade. The applicant should also have five years experience or more in the planning/ design/ execution of railway-related infrastructure projects. The criterion also stated: 'It is desirable to have the experience of projects report preparation, sanction, resource mobilization and coordination with other ministers and stake holders.' Experts also pointed out that the state and central governments have not taken serious note of the need to execute the project. The long delays have only made Bengaluru's traffic management worse.

"Huge blessing for Kashmir": Ashwini Vaishnaw on Chenab rail bridge
New Delhi [India] June 7 (ANI): In a landmark achievement for India's infrastructure and connectivity, Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated the Katra-Srinagar railway line, including the iconic Chenab rail bridge. This fulfilled a long-cherished dream of Kashmir's integration with the nation. Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw said the railway line bridge will be a 'huge blessing' for Kashmir. 'The decades-old dream of Kashmir has been fulfilled today. PM Modi inaugurated the Katra-Srinagar railway line and two bridges today. This is a huge achievement, and it will prove to be a huge blessing for Kashmir,' he told reporters on Friday. Union Minister Jyotiraditya Scindia told reporters invoked Prime Minister Narendra Modi and said, ''The Prime Minister has always said that India will emerge as a shining star on the world stage of development and progress, and the forces that will try to stop development will be given a befitting reply, and India will continue to develop...' Earlier in the day, Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated the world's highest railway arch bridge, Chenab Railway Bridge, and India's first cable-stayed bridge, Anji Bridge, in Jammu and Kashmir's Reasi district. In a remarkable gesture, Prime Minister Modi waved the Tiranga, the Indian national flag and carried it forward on the deck of the bridge on the Chenab River. Jammu and Kashmir Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha, Chief Minister Omar Abdullah and Railways Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw were present during the inauguration. Before the inauguration of the bridge on the Chenab, the Prime Minister inspected the railway arch bridge. These bridges are part of the Udhampur-Srinagar-Baramulla Railway Link (USBRL) project in Jammu and Kashmir. The iconic Chenab Railway Bridge, the world's highest railway arch bridge, is part of the Katra-to-Sangaldan stretch, connecting New Delhi directly with Kashmir via Katra. Situated in the Reasi district of Jammu and Kashmir, the Chenab Bridge is an engineering marvel standing at 359 meters above the riverbed. It will officially connect the Kashmir Valley with the rest of India via rail for the first time. The project faced numerous engineering and logistical challenges due to the region's difficult terrain and seismic sensitivity. Yet, after years of meticulous work, the bridge now stands as a testament to India's technological prowess and commitment to inclusive development. It marks a transformative chapter in India's infrastructural landscape, promising greater connectivity, economic growth, and regional social integration. (ANI)

Why Indian Railways Deactivated 2.5 Crore "Bogus" IDs On IRCTC
The Indian Railways has deactivated 2.5 crore "bogus" user IDs and put around 20 lakh others under revalidation to curb unauthorised automated bookings by unscrupulous agents. This will significantly improve the access to genuine users on IRCTC website and app, the Ministry of Railways said. The department deployed cutting-edge anti-BOT systems and integrated with a leading Content Delivery Network (CDN) service provider to make it possible. Besides enhancing transparency, the step will improve security and user experience as well. Within the past five months (January to May), the Railways detected 2.9 lakh suspicious PNRs. This was done while analysing ticket bookings in the first five minutes after it started for both general and Tatkal tickets, The Times of India reported. A Railways official shared that 134 complaints were registered with the national cybercrime portal and they have blocked more than 6,800 disposal email domains. Fraudsters used unique email IDs for every contact or entity. These are usually for a limited number of times. This helps them charge extra money from the passengers. Through the new system, the Railways has been able to mitigate all bot traffic effectively. They typically peaked during the first five minutes of Tatkal bookings. During this period, the bot traffic accounted for up to 50 per cent of the overall login attempts. Notably, the highest-ever per-minute booking of 31,814 tickets was witnessed on May 22, 2025. The latest enhancement will further ensure better accessibility to genuine users and cut down 'bogus' attempts. For fairness and efficiency, the Indian Railways has also come up with new user protocols. Under this, Aadhaar-verified users will be able to book train tickets on the IRCTC website and app without facing any delays; those not authenticated via Aadhaar can book Opening ARP, Tatkal or Premium Tatkal tickets can make bookings only after three days of registration. These efforts have shown measurable improvements in recent times. The average daily user logins was 69.08 lakh in financial year 2023–24 and increased to 82.57 lakh in FY 2024–25, witnessing a 19.53 per cent rise. The average daily ticket bookings jumped by 11.85 per cent during the same period. At present, E-Ticketing accounts for 86.38 per cent of total reserved ticket bookings. With CDN, 87 per cent of static content is being served for faster load times and reduced server load, the Railway Ministry said. The AI algorithms have been able to detect and mitigate bot traffic actively. As there is a "genuine shortage of confirmed tickets," efforts are being made to run more trains to increase capacity, sources told The Times Of India.
