OpenAI executive to students: 'Studying computer science is…'
chairman
Bret Taylor
said that studying computer science remains "extremely valuable' in the era of
artificial intelligence
(AI). The executive emphasized that these degrees build 'systems thinking', a key skill that remains important even as
AI coding tools
become widespread. He emphasized that the skill helps in product development and is a critical skill that AI tools cannot replace.
According to a Business Insider report, Taylor emphasized that this skill will continue to be essential even as AI coding tools progresses. He said a computer science degree gives students a deeper understanding of important topics like Big O notation, complexity theory, randomized algorithms, and cache misses.
'Studying computer science is a different answer than learning to code, but I would say I still think it's extremely valuable to study computer science,' Taylor said.

Speaking in early July, the Microsoft co-founder said that programming will 'remain a human job for at least a century'. Writing software, he argues, is less about typing syntax and more about spotting unseen patterns, judging trade-offs and making a leap no algorithm can anticipate. AI can already draft snippets, debug routine errors and suggest architectural templates, yet the spark that turns a half-baked idea into working logic still comes from a person at a keyboard.
Gates shared the view in separate conversations with The Economic Times and The Tonight Show, then echoed it during a podcast with Zerodha's Nikhil Kamath. Each time, he circled back to the same point: tools like Copilot and ChatGPT are power chisels, not replacement carpenters. They enhance human productivity, creativity, and problem-solving across multiple industries and sectors. These AI tools shorten repetitive grunt work but ultimately leave the blueprint and decision-making to us.

Elon Musk Receives $29 Billion Stock Award from Tesla
Tesla has offered the chief executive Elon Musk $29bn (PS21.7bn) worth of Tesla stock award Elon Musk, to try to retain the billionaire in the company. The decision comes after an US judge rejected Tesla CEO bonus plan that was worth over $50 billion, and ruled that the pay is "unfair to shareholders". Elon Musk has been fighting a Delaware court ruling made earlier in 2024. On Monday, Tesla informed shareholders they expect Musk's $29 billion Elon Musk $29bn shares package will keep him 'focused and incentivized' as competition for top AI talent heats up. Tesla's board on Monday detailed in a post on X, Musk's social platform, the importance of retaining the company's world-class team and keeping them motivated and aligned — starting with Musk. The board said his unique combination of technical skills, leadership, and visionary drive is 'unparalleled.' Tesla announced that it would take place if they were to see the Delware tribunal reinstated Elon Musk Tesla bonus from 2018 the company would either forfeit or exchange the most recent share aware in order to keep from an "double dip". The board of the carmaker said it was hopeful that its chief executive will get the contract Elon Musk net worth 2025 $56 billion that would make it the largest Tesla leadership payout for a CEO in American history. The contract was structured to ensure that the event that Mr. Musk didn't meet certain milestones, such as Tesla's sales, market value and the underlying profit - he could not be paid in any way. 'Musk is Tesla's biggest asset, and I view the board's action as a very positive development.' He said that during"the "AI arms race", the firm was unable to keep Musk just "semi-committed". News outlets reported that Meta (Facebook) founder Mark Zuckerberg had recently offered top developers at OpenAI, the maker of ChatGPT, salaries Tesla executive compensation, worth tens of millions of dollars. Zoho's Sridhar Vembu has a big warning for students entering IT industry, hints at a 'borrowing' crisis hurting young people
Synopsis A student's ₹70L debt for a US master's degree highlights the risks of heavy borrowing for education, especially with a challenging IT job market. The author urges caution, advocating for employer-funded training programs and industry acceptance of alternative credentials to prevent trapping young people in debt. Companies should invest in skill development. Agencies Zoho founder Sridhar Vembu on Monday took to X to highlight the financial risks students face when burdened by hefty education loans in an unpredictable job market. He cautioned against borrowing large sums to pursue foreign degrees, especially when job opportunities are uncertain. Citing a real-life example, Vembu shared the story of a student who took a loan of around Rs 70 lakh (approximately $80,000) at a steep 12% annual interest to study at a lesser-known U.S. university. With limited job prospects—particularly for international students in the IT sector—the student now struggles to meet repayment deadlines without stable employment. A recent distress call: a student has taken about ₹70L ($80K) debt at 12% to get a master's degree in a small college in the US. The problem: the job scene in IT is bad, especially so for foreign students and payments on the loan are starting soon. I don't know what we could do in this situation because we have not been hiring much as we transform ourselves for the AI era. That caution in hiring is also because we have a policy of not resorting to lay-offs. I urge students and parents to be cautious in borrowing heavily to pursue degrees abroad. Borrowing heavily to pursue degrees in India is unwise too. I strongly believe we should not trap young people in debt in the name of education. The only smart course is for prospective employers to fund training programs and for the industry to broadly accept such alternative credentials rather than ask for formal degrees. The best investment we make as a company is in training and skill development. I hope companies do this widely so we don't strand young people in debt. "A Tsunami of this is coming ! Most governments are not ready to handle mass unemployment , not just IT," said one user. Another user said, "I support higher education when admits are to good colleges. College experience is still useful for getting new perspectives at a young age. But so many of our youth are chasing useless degrees which adds no value than a course done for free online.""Very hard for freshers to land in a job if they don't get selected through campus placement. I feel companies should hire from broader pool. I also felt the same struggle right after my college days. It is also important to revise courses and adapt US style college education having ability to choose the topics that they can study. Even with same college degree we would get people excel at various areas, by investing deeper into their interests," said one user.

Mumbai court grants bail to high-end furniture businessman in Rs 30 crore customs duty evasion case
Mumbai: The Mumbai metropolitan magistrate court on Saturday granted bail to Falgun Shroff, a key accused in the Rs 30 crore customs duty evasion racket unearthed by the Directorate of Revenue Intelligence (DRI). Shroff, the owner of Di Lusso Furniture LLP, was arrested on July 20 for allegedly importing high-end Italian luxury furniture by grossly undervaluing goods and evading customs duties. While granting bail, the court observed that Shroff had no prior criminal antecedents and cooperated with the investigation. The court noted that the DRI had already seized all documentary and electronic evidence, including emails, account books, and devices, during searches at Shroff's office and residence. The accused also deposited Rs 5 crore towards duty payment and expressed willingness to pay more, without admitting any liability, although his bank accounts are currently frozen, argued his advocate Sujay Kantawala. The court directed Shroff to be released on a personal bond of Rs 2 lakh with sureties and imposed strict conditions prohibiting him from tampering with evidence or influencing witnesses. The court remarked that further custodial interrogation was not necessary at this stage as the investigation into past imports will take considerable time. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like TV providers are furious: this gadget gives you access to all channels Techno Mag Learn More Undo You Can Also Check: Mumbai AQI | Weather in Mumbai | Bank Holidays in Mumbai | Public Holidays in Mumbai DRI officials alleged that Shroff, along with co-accused Sambhaji Bhosale and Manoj Rai, imported premium furniture brands like Poltrona Frau, Fendi, and Minotti using shell companies and dummy Importer Exporter Codes (IECs). The syndicate allegedly fabricated invoices through front firms in Dubai and Singapore to undervalue imports, thereby suppressing customs duty liabilities. All three were released on bail. Officials said the racket has international ramifications and more arrests are likely as several dummy companies and overseas collaborators remain under the scanner.
