Some opposition parties in Gauteng Legislature remain critical of Maile's revised budget
Maile retabled the budget on Wednesday to accommodate key changes in the province's projected revenue.
An additional R886 million has been added, bringing the total projected revenue to R172 billion for the current financial year.

Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF) provincial chairperson Nkululeko Dunga said Maile's budget doesn't reflect the true state of the province.
"I think the priorities on the budget are skewed on the basis that you have R1.2 billion that is allocated for the provincial legislature and political parties while you still have about R240 million allocated towards housing. A sound decision would have been to allocate R1.2 billion to the housing and the R200 million to the political parties."
The Democratic Alliance (DA)'s Ruhan Robinson said that budget allocation could have been better.
"All in all, many of our concerns stay exactly the same as with the previous budget. It's the enormous allocation of almost R5 billion to pay for the e-toll debt, which we still believe is not for the province to pay. We shouldn't be paying that money."

JOHANNESBURG - Economic Freedom Front (EFF) leader Julius Malema has taken aim at African heads of state, accusing them of presenting themselves for a humiliation ritual in the United States Oval Office. Malema delivered this message at the party's 3rd central command team meeting in Bela Bela. He is calling on his party to force Africa to cut ties with imperialist powers. Malema caught the ire of US President Donald Trump when South Africa visited the Oval Office in May—where Trump showed visuals of the firebrand chanting "shoot the boer"—as she sought to substantiate a false claim that whites were under siege in the country. Five African heads of state have recently been hosted by the US president. With President Cyril Ramaphosa being one of them, Malema has accused him of going to the Oval for the sole purpose of discussing the EFF. He says Ramaphosa failed to even defend the "shoot the boer" chant—which is rooted in the president's own political party—the African National Congress (ANC). The EFF leader—in his observations—also notes the lack of improvement in relations between South Africa and the US. During his address, Malema also took a swipe at the US president, describing him as the most unstable imperialist—with ties to sex traffickers. He has further labelled Trump's tariff war as irrational and illiterate—lacking the understanding of the concept of a trade deficit. Malema has called on the global forces on the left to unite against the US.

DA blames Trade & International Relations ministers for unfavourable trade deal with USA
CAPE TOWN - The Democratic Alliance (DA) is blaming Trade and International Relations ministers for not securing a more favourable trade deal with the United States. The party said not having a permanent diplomat based in the US has also placed South Africa on the back foot. Although President Cyril Ramaphosa remained optimistic today (Friday) that a more preferential trade deal can still be struck from next Thursday, South African products exported to the US will be charged a 30% tariff. ALSO READ: Govt intervening to cushion blow of harsh US tariffs on local businesses - Ramaphosa The DA's Toby Chance said if it's been possible for neighbouring Botswana to whittle down import tariffs from the originally planned 37% to 15%, Trade Minister Parks Tau and International Relations Minister Ronald Lamola should hang their heads in shame. Most other Southern African Development Community (SADC) countries will be paying half the 30% tariff to be imposed on South Africa. "This no-deal scenario is due to sheer negligence, failed diplomacy and ineptitude. The South African negotiators missed their first deadline to secure trade terms to the United States. And after missing the deadline, we're forced to ask for an extension." Chance has lambasted tau for not having a contingency plan in place, saying his help desk to assist fearful exporters is laughable. He said a further indictment of Tau's leadership is the vacancies for trade representatives in thirty countries. Chance said the DA will continue to negotiate where it can for favourable trade relations, even if it comes under attack from the African National Congress, which has been insistent on controlling both the trade and international relations portfolios.
