Nintendo explains why Zelda and Splatoon racers aren't in Mario Kart World
Before Mario Kart World was announced, some fans hoped it would take some cues from Super Smash Bros. and become a crossover of all Nintendo properties.
The precedent for this was set in Mario Kart 8 Deluxe, where Splatoon Inklings, Link from The Legend Of Zelda, and villagers from Animal Crossing made the roster. This was the first time Nintendo characters outside of the Mushroom Kingdom had made it into Mario Kart, with courses based on F-Zero and Excitebike thrown in too.
While it seemed logical that this would continue in Mario Kart World, the sequel doesn't feature any other Nintendo characters – instead opting for an influx of minor Mario freakos like Conkdor, Cataquack, Penguin, and the Cow from Moo Moo Meadows.
Mario Kart World producer Kosuke Yabuki has explained why this is the case in an interview with Ouest-France, where he described the potential inclusion of other Nintendo characters in the sequel as 'incongruous'.
'As developers, it would have seemed incongruous to us to add characters from other games into this universe,' he told the outlet (via machine translation). 'And it didn't seem necessary to us, given everything we could already do with Mario.' More Trending
Yabuki, who also served as a producer on ARMS, was asked if he ever considered adding characters from that game to the roster. 'Absolutely not!' he replied with a laugh.

Speaking about the slew of new minor Mario characters, he added: 'We were hoping that the addition of these new drivers would be a pleasant surprise for players. But the reception has been so warm that it surprised even us! It definitely exceeded our expectations.'
The big question is whether his comments rule out any potential Nintendo crossovers for Mario Kart World in the future. Characters from Zelda and Animal Crossing were added to Mario Kart 8 via DLC packs, and the open structure of Mario Kart World lends itself to extra courses being added as a potentially separate island down the line.
Based on the success of Mario Kart 8 Deluxe, which sold over 68 million copies and received DLC in the form of the Booster Course Pass, new tracks and characters for Mario Kart World feels inevitable – but then again, Nintendo has a knack for doing the unexpected.

Super Mario Bros. 40th anniversary leaks are fake but what is Nintendo planning?
Anticipation around the 40th anniversary of Super Mario Bros. has led to some questionable leaks around about a new collection, but it's unclear if any of it is real. Nintendo has a track record of unexpected celebrations for its core characters (hello, Year Of Luigi), but the inexplicably loud fanfare around the 35th anniversary of Super Mario Bros. is one of the more peculiar in recent memory. For the title's 35th birthday, which is hardly a major milestone, Nintendo released Super Mario 3D All-Stars, Super Mario Bros. 35, Super Mario 3D World + Bowser's Fury, special Lego sets, a limited edition Game & Watch handheld, and a whole line of 35th anniversary apparel. This was likely because it was in the middle of the Covid pandemic, and Nintendo literally had nothing else to promote, but it makes it very hard to predict what Nintendo will do about the more significant 40th anniversary on September 13. Earlier this week, several posts on Reddit appeared to out one part of Nintendo's plans. One post showed alleged images of a New Super Mario Bros. Collection, containing 2006's New Super Mario Bros, New Super Mario Bros. Wii, and 2012's New Super Mario Bros. 2. This same rumour was seemingly corroborated by an alleged leaker named John Skinny on Reddit (via MyNintendoNews), who claimed they had received information on the same collection via internal scheduling docs and localisation assets via a contractor Q&A team. However, while believable on the surface, the rumour starts to fall apart once you dig into the details. Many have pointed out how the barcode on the 'leaked' box art is the same as 2012's Super Mario Bros. U. Likewise, Skinny claimed they played a 'new Zelda game' during a Switch 2 demo event last year – something we've never heard about since. Sign up to the GameCentral newsletter for a unique take on the week in gaming, alongside the latest reviews and more. Delivered to your inbox every Saturday morning. This appears to rule out this rumour, but it still leaves the question of what (if anything) Nintendo is planning for the 40th anniversary. There's been rumbles of a potential secret Christmas game for the Switch 2 but while that's very unlikely to be a new big budget title, a remaster compilation is much more plausible. More Trending There are some other, smaller announcements which also seem likely. We already know Super Mario Sunshine is coming to Nintendo Switch Online at some point, so the timing of that could line up with the 40th celebrations in September. The limited time multiplayer battle royale title, Super Mario Bros. 35, could be rebranded for the 40th anniversary and re-released on Nintendo Switch Online. There might even be some kind of update for Mario Kart World, angled around retro cosmetics. Nintendo hasn't announced any plans for the 40th anniversary but, after its huge celebration for the 35th, it would be weird if it does go by without any fanfare. Although, of course, weird is Nintendo's stock in trade… Email gamecentral@ leave a comment below, follow us on Twitter. Thylane Blondeau shows off her svelte physique in a high-leg swimsuit as she soaks up the sun in Saint Tropez
Thylane Blondeau showed off her svelte physique in a high-leg black swimsuit as she soaked up the sun in Saint Tropez, France on Tuesday. The 24-year-old model, who is dubbed 'most beautiful girl in the world', enjoyed a dip in the ocean after enjoying lunch at beachfront Le Club 55. Fans recently discovered Thylane was once named the most beautiful girl in the world and shared her modelling snaps over the years. While very much now a grown up, the striking features that made her a recognisable child are still apparent. The French model looked out of this world in her skimpy swimwear during her relaxing beach day. She teamed her stylish ensemble with black-rimmed chunky sunglasses and gold jewellery. The 24-year-old model, who is dubbed 'most beautiful girl in the world', enjoyed a dip in the ocean after enjoying lunch at celebrity hotspot Le Club 55 Thylane was three when she was catapulted to the spotlight after an agent for the legendary fashion designer Jean Paul Gaultier picked her out of a crowd in The Champs-Elysees and sent her strutting down a runway. As well as her infamous cover shoot for Vogue Enfants, she has gone on to work for some of the biggest couture brands in the world including Miu Miu, Dolce & Gabbana, L'Oréal Paris, Versace, Ralph Lauren and Hugo Boss. Thylane walked for Jean Paul Gaultier at the age of four and then later, aged 10, became the youngest ever model to pose for Vogue Paris. In a 2018 interview with The Telegraph, she said she distanced herself from the girl who was once declared the world's 'most beautiful'. 'Even today, people are like, "you are the most beautiful girl," and I'm like, "no, I'm still not, I'm just a human being, a teenager.' Since reaching adulthood, the model has also used her platform to share a private health battle that affects women the world over. In 2021, Paris-based Blondeau revealed she'd recently had multiple surgeries for complications with ovarian cysts. The French beauty explained that on Instagram she had surgery in 2020 after an ovarian cyst 'exploded in my stomach.' Thylane tried not to get herself soaked as she dipped her feet in the sea Sharing photos of herself in her hospital gown and an image of her scan, Thylane went on to explain that she began experiencing pain again three months after her first surgery. However, when she sought medical treatment she was told that the pain she was experiencing was 'all in your head'. Thylane said she had to go to A&E 'because my belly was hurting so much I couldn't handle it anymore and they said that everything was fine and that I had a lil kyste [cyst] and I will have to do a check up in 2-3 months.' 'The day after this I had this appointment with an amazing doctor who directly saw that I had a kyste [cyst] of 5,6 cm who was touching my ovary so he sent me to do an IRM and an hour after this, the doctor called me and ask me to go straight to the hospital to do an emergency operation.' 'From this experience I've learned that when you're body hurts, don't let it slide and take care of it, you must see different doctors until some of them find the problem and heals it. 'Any pain even the little ones can hide something way more important.'

Genshin Impact sparks fan fury as it shuts down PS4 version
Developer MiHoYo has announced it will stop supporting the PS4 version of Genshin Impact, as it raises the specifications on mobile and PC. Between the rise of live service games and movements like Stop Killing Games, there's increasing concern around the future and preservation of online titles. While this usually applies to games that are at risk of being wiped out entirely, for popular live service titles like Fortnite and Apex Legends, there's the awkward task of navigating between console generations, as older versions on aging hardware become obsolete. Developer MiHoYo is the latest studio to make this transition, with the announcement that it is shutting down the PlayStation 4 version of Genshin Impact. In a post on the game's website, MiHoYo cites 'limitations related to hardware performance and platform application size' as the reason for the decision. For anyone who still plays on PlayStation 4, you still have some time to migrate over to another platform, such as the PlayStation 5, Xbox Series S/X, PC, or mobile. The termination of the PlayStation 4 version will be rolled out in three phases. Starting from October 9, 2025, anyone who hasn't previously downloaded Genshin Impact on PlayStation 4 will no longer be able to download it on the PlayStation Store. However, if you have, you can still re-download this version following this date, even if it's deleted from the console. Notice on the Removal and Discontinuation of Updates for Genshin Impact on PS4®#GenshinImpact Dear Traveler,Thank you for your continued support and love for Genshin Impact on PS4®! Due to limitations related to hardware performance and platform application size, we will be… — Genshin Impact (@GenshinImpact) August 6, 2025 The second deadline is on February 25, 2026, when all in-game purchases will be removed from the PlayStation 4 version. However, any purchased items from the PlayStation Store that have not yet been claimed after this date can still be obtained by logging into the PlayStation 4 version. The final deathblow takes place on April 8, 2026, when update support will officially end for Genshin Impact on PlayStation 4. From this date, you will no longer be able to log in or play this version, while any unclaimed items after this date can only be redeemed by accessing the PlayStation 5 version. MiHoYo has assured PlayStation 4 players can transfer their progress to other versions of Genshin Impact by 'binding' their login via email. Preview of Changes to Device Performance Requirements#GenshinImpact Dear Traveler,To support future version updates and optimize game performance, Genshin Impact will raise its device specifications starting with the "Song of the Welkin Moon" that time, both the… — Genshin Impact (@GenshinImpact) August 6, 2025 Shortly after this announcement, the developer revealed plans to raise the minimum and recommended specifications for Genshin Impact across mobile and PC. 'Devices below the minimum specifications may still launch the game, but may experience performance issues including frame rate drops, instability, or crashes during gameplay,' they note. These changes will roll out with its upcoming Song Of The Welkin Moon update. More Trending While many have questioned how the 'limitations' of the PlayStation 4 can be an issue when Genshin Impact runs on mobile devices, the audience for the latter is very likely far bigger – so it's more important for MiHoYo to keep it running on those platforms. Nevertheless, not everyone's happy about it. 'A huge chunk of people are no longer gonna be able to play Genshin now. Good job Hoyo,' one X user posted. 'People are going to be so mad about this, but it's time to upgrade the game, it's a good thing,' another added. It might be an annoyance for those who haven't yet upgraded to a PlayStation 5, but this will likely become more commonplace in the coming years – especially for titles like Fortnite, which still support the PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and the original Nintendo Switch.
