New Delhi: In a big update for the people of Delhi, the Delhi government has scrapped the Rs 60 lakh renovation tender for chief minister Rekha Gupta's official residence citing 'administrative reasons'. As per a report by PTI news agency carried last week, the Public Works Department (PWD) had to carry out upgradation work worth over Rs 59.40 lakh at Bungalow Number 1, Raj Niwas Marg, which has been allotted to Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta.
The work consisted of fix electrical and civil work, involving the installation of 14 split air conditioners worth Rs 7.7 lakh, five LED TVs worth Rs 9.9 lakh, and 23 ceiling fans with a remote control costing Rs 1.8 lakh. Washing machines, toast grill and Dishwasher: What was on upgradation list?
Fourteen CCTV cameras worth Rs 5.74 lakh will be installed, and the residence with UPS system for power backup were expected to be placed. Not stopping here, other appliances include six geysers for Rs 91,000, one automatic washing machine for Rs 77,000, a toast grill for Rs 85,000, and one dishwasher for Rs 60,000 were also planned under the upgradation work.
A total of 23 ceiling fans worth Rs 1.8 lakh and, as part of illumination work, 115 lamps, hanging lights, and three big chandeliers will be put up in the house at the cost of Rs 6 lakh. The overall cost of renovation is Rs 59,40,170.
Meanwhile, Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta welcomed the Commission for Air Quality Management's (CAQM) decision to stay the implementation of the policy regarding end-of-life (EOL) vehicles in the national capital till November 1, stating that the Delhi government had raised the concerns of the people and the commission took cognisance of it.
Speaking to reporters, CM Rekha Gupta said, 'The previous governments never understood this problem being faced by the people. They neither worked on pollution nor on policy. When the CAQM decided to issue this order and the decision of the Court was also included in the order, we had put forward the problem being faced by the people of Delhi, and they should not face injustice. Taking cognisance of our stand, they have put this order on hold till 1 November 2025, and we will also work towards giving relief to the people of Delhi… All this chaos was created by the previous government and our government will work towards solving it.'

Uttarakhand mulls minority status for non-Muslim educational institutions
Dehradun : The Uttarakhand Minority Educational Institutions Bill, 2025, was approved by the state cabinet on Sunday for tabling in the upcoming monsoon assembly session scheduled to be held on Tuesday at the summer capital in Gairsain of Chamoli district. The bill seeks to extend minority status to non-Muslim educational institutions in the state. Sikh, Jain, Christian, Buddhist and Parsi communities will also be eligible to establish and run institutions with minority recognition under the proposed law that the cabinet, chaired by CM Pushkar Singh Dhami, cleared. Officials said the legislation is designed to create a transparent and modern process for granting such status while ensuring quality benchmarks in education. The Bill provides for the creation of Uttarakhand State Minority Education Authority, which will serve as the nodal body to process applications and grant recognition. The authority will also be responsible for monitoring institutions to ensure compliance with the standards prescribed by the Uttarakhand Board of School Education and for maintaining fairness in student assessment. 'Once enacted, Uttarakhand will become the first state in the country to bring in a law that not only grants minority status but also lays down clear provisions to ensure academic excellence, accountability and protection of the constitutional rights of minority communities,' a senior state government official said on condition of anonymity. Under the new framework, recognition will be mandatory for all educational institutions set up by Muslim, Christian, Sikh, Buddhist, Jain or Parsi communities. Institutions will be required to be registered under the Society Act, Trust Act or Company Act, and their properties and bank accounts must be maintained in the name of the institution itself. According to officials, the law will streamline a process that until now lacked uniformity and bring it under a single accountable authority. While it seeks to safeguard the autonomy of minority institutions, the government will retain powers to oversee their functioning and issue directions when necessary. 'The bill balances independence with accountability. The emphasis will remain on transparency and quality in education, but without infringing upon the institutional rights of minority communities,' the official added. Officials further said the legislation is expected to not only strengthen the recognition process but also raise the overall quality of education in minority-run institutions, benefitting both students and the communities involved.
