Respectfully, Why Would Anyone Ever Go on ‘The Ultimatum: Queer Love'?

Vogue2 days ago
There was lesbian mess aplenty on the last season of Queer Ultimatum, and I became addicted to the point that I still follow several of the principals on Instagram. (Guys, Aussie and Sam are still together, I think! And Rae and Lexi both have new partners, whick rocks, because they were…ill-suited!) Season 2, though, makes the last look like a particularly polite episode of The Great British Bake Off, with sex, lies, drama, and allegations of Spotify-cheating abounding from every direction. What is Spotify-cheating, you ask? I wouldn't want to give away too much, but just know that you should always make your Spotify playlists private, especially if you share an account with your ex and you're holed up with your new 'trial wife,' cooking truffle-infused foods and listening to alleged sex music.
As a queer person myself, I totally get the appeal of being around a bunch of other queer people—with no straights in sight—for almost two months, and I always think the cast members look like they're having the most fun at the show's outset, when everyone is just cruising and flirting and giggling in beachwear. One thing I simply do not understand, though, is why a couple that seems to be compatible and reasonably happy—like Season 2's Bridget and Kyle—would sign up to go on a show that's basically the reality equivalent of U-Hauling with someone you met at Woods Wednesdays for three weeks straight, only to realize that you don't actually have as much in common as you thought you did over margaritas and subtle vape drags.
Of course, there are some Queer Ultimatum couples who genuinely seemed to grow into their relationship on the show, like Britney and A.J., and some who probably never should have dated in the first place (Ashley and Marita seem like a classic case of 'We're from an area with a reasonably small queer community and everyone threw us together because we're both gay'), but as someone in what I'd like to think is a healthy and non-codependent queer relationship, those 'this and never going on Queer Ultimatum' memes are very real.
Obviously, nobody's going to force me and my partner to appear on a Netflix reality show, but even the thought of watching the love of my life literally hand-select someone new from a small cluster of queers to play house with for the next three weeks sends a frisson of fear down my spine. Does this mean I'm not as emotionally evolved as the people on Queer Ultimatum, or just that Queer Ultimatum is the most chaotic queer reality show there has ever been? Either way, someone greenlight Season 3, stat, and maybe throw in a masc-for-masc couple while you're at it!

General Hospital Recap: Lucas Asks Carly to Protect Marco From Sonny

General Hospital Recap: Lucas Asks Carly to Protect Marco From Sonny originally appeared on Daytime Confidential. On today's General Hospital recap: Felicia says she found Jacinda in Sydney and tells Curtis she'll be back in Port Charles in 24 hours. Curtis is grateful for Felicia's hard work and discretion. When Jordan shows up, Curtis tells her about Jacinda's return. Curtis brings up what happened the other day, but Jordan says Portia was sending a clear message to stay away. Curtis says Jordan has been a friend and doesn't deserve Portia's wrath. Jordan mentions Portia throwing a drink on her which upsets Curtis even more. She doesn't want to be responsible for his marriage falling apart and says it's best if they don't see each other anymore. Curtis accepts her decision. Drew is grateful to Kai for telling him about Curtis' conversation since the negative publicity would hinder Willow's chances of getting her kids back. Kai's worried Trina will think he betrayed her and hopes she'll understand her parents are in the wrong. Felicia returns to tell Curtis it looks like Jacinda got cold feet and disappeared. Curtis thinks Drew got to her and doesn't know how Drew would have figured out what he was up to, as Kai overhears. Cody tells Kristina he overplayed things with Ava and likely won't break her up from Ric. He tells her about the kiss and how Ava slapped him. Kristina isn't concerned since Ava allowed Cody to continue his handiwork. Cody feels some guilt since he's gotten to know Ava, but Kristina isn't swayed. She says it's all an act and says Molly would be happier if Ric was with Liz. Cody thinks they should tell Molly, but Kristina says it's better if they keep this from her sister. Molly arrives, surprised to see Cody. Kristina claims he stopped by to see how she's feeling. Cody heads out after telling Molly about the exhibit at Ava's gallery. Molly worries about Cody hanging out with Ava, so Kristina asks if there is more between them other than friendship. Molly swears there is nothing between her and Cody but doesn't want him in Ava's orbit. Ric asks Liz out for the night, but she says she's going to the exhibit at the gallery. He offers to go with her, but Liz says she doesn't want to mislead him. Ric apologizes for overstepping and swears he just wants her friendship. Carly is angry with Willow for approaching Wylie at the pool and says she can see him if she doesn't marry Drew. Willow says Carly and Michael can't tell her how to live her life. Carly says she'll ban Willow from the Metro Court if it happens again. Willow accuses Carly of being heartless, but she turns it back on Willow until Lucas breaks them up. Willow tells Drew that Carly banned her from the pool for approaching Wylie. Drew reminds her that they have to be careful because the visitation hearing is coming up. They don't want to give Michael any ammunition. Drew promises everything will be fixed once they get married. He apologizes but Willow believes everything is all Michael's fault. She promises she's marrying him because she loves him. Lucas asks Carly to help protect Marco from Sonny. He says Sonny and Sidwell are at odds and worries about retaliation. Carly questions how close Marco is to his father's business, but Lucas swears he only deals with the legit side. Lucas begs her to talk to Sonny not to trigger a war with Sidwell. Tricia is surprised when Ava tells her Cody was the handyman who helped her set up the gallery. Cody returns and he and Ava get flirty. Ric delivers flowers to Ava along with a check for her to use towards the gallery. He reminds them that they are in this together and she appreciates his apology. Jason says the police found two of Selina's men in the harbor. Sonny knows Sidwell was behind it since he and Selina had a truce. Sonny says Sidwell needs to answer for almost killing Kristina. Jason points out the two fires were completely different and thinks the one at Charlie's may not have been set by the same person who set the one at the penthouse. Sonny mentions Natalia's death and how it was an overdose and how ADA Turner doesn't believe it was murder. Sonny says they need to send a message to Sidwell that if you come after his child, his child will pay. Carly shows up, saying she's stopping him from doing whatever will get another person killed. Sasha says she's not letting the baby out of her sight ever again. She swears she left the baby in the nursery and doesn't know how she ended up in the living room. Sasha lists all the weird events that happened, and Michael has no explanation. Sasha worries Michael thinks she's crazy. Michael says he doesn't doubt her and knows she's telling the truth about what's happening. Sasha says someone is either trying to gaslight her or prove they can get to Daisy whenever they want. She thinks she and the baby need to move and begs him not to fight her on it. She says she should get out of Port Charles and, despite his protests, insists she can't lose another child. Michael says he can't let her leave. Keep checking back for the latest General Hospital recaps! This story was originally reported by Daytime Confidential on Jul 10, 2025, where it first appeared.

Cierra Ortega Takes Full Responsibility After Love Island USA Season 7 Exit: 'I Am So Sorry To The Asian Community'

Cierra Ortega is finally speaking out after her abrupt and highly scrutinized exit from Love Island USA Season 7. In a candid, emotionally raw Instagram video shared on Tuesday, the reality TV bombshell addressed the growing controversy surrounding her departure, taking accountability for a resurfaced social media post in which she used a racial slur, and acknowledging the pain caused by her actions. Her exit, announced vaguely on the July 6 episode by narrator Iain Stirling as being due to 'a personal situation,' left both fans and fellow Islanders stunned, particularly her on-screen partner Nic Vansteenberg, who was rendered 'officially single' with just one week to go before the finale. But behind the scenes, the situation was spiraling into something far more serious, and public backlash was reaching a boiling point. 'Now that I've been back in the U.S. for about 48 hours and I've had the chance to process, I now feel like I'm at a space where I can speak about this without being highly emotional because I am not the victim in this situation,' Ortega opened in her four-minute-plus video, which has already been viewed over 1.3 million times on Instagram and reposted widely across TikTok and X. The 24-year-old reality star confirmed that during her time inside the Villa, a post from her past had resurfaced in which she used a racial slur directed at the Asian community, an incident fans had already been loudly condemning online and calling for action from producers. 'While I was in the Villa, there were some posts that resurfaced from my past where I was very naively using an incredibly offensive and derogatory term,' she said. 'Before I get into the details, I want to first start by addressing not just anyone that I have hurt or deeply offended, but most importantly, the entire Asian community. I am deeply, truly, honestly, so sorry.' Ortega emphasized that her statement was not an apology tour but a moment of ownership. 'This is not an apology video,' she declared. 'This is an accountability video.' She went on to explain that she did not understand the historical pain and violent legacy behind the word she used, but firmly stated that ignorance is not a justification. 'I had no ill intention when I was using it, but that's absolutely no excuse because intent doesn't excuse ignorance. It just doesn't.' Addressing claims that she had doubled down or dismissed criticism at the time, Ortega pushed back: 'The truth is that in that moment, the lesson was learned, the word was removed and it was a true learning moment for me… I think since that moment I've done so much growing as an individual.' She also revealed that she agreed with her removal from the show. 'I completely agree with the network's decision to remove me from the Villa. I think that this is something that deserved punishment, and the punishment has absolutely been received for sure.' Ortega's video also highlighted the personal toll the backlash has taken, not just on her, but on her loved ones. 'My family doesn't feel safe in their own home,' she said tearfully. 'I've been receiving death threats. There's no need to fight hate with hate. I don't think that that's justice.' While Ortega did not disclose whether she is pursuing any form of protective measures or legal recourse, she urged viewers to recognize the difference between accountability and destruction. 'All I can ask for is even if you won't give me forgiveness if you can just allow me to grow with grace.' Ortega is the second contestant to be removed from Love Island USA Season 7 for racially insensitive language. Earlier this season, contestant Yulissa Escobar was also ousted after old podcast clips surfaced showing her using a racial slur. Like Ortega, Escobar also issued a formal statement acknowledging the harm. 'In those clips, I used a word I never should've used, a racial slur,' Escobar said. 'I used it ignorantly, not fully understanding the weight, history, or pain behind it… The impact of that word is real. It's tied to generations of trauma, and it is not mine to use.' While Peacock and ITV have not commented in depth on either removal, both women's exits appear to indicate a zero-tolerance approach from the network moving forward. Despite the controversy swirling outside the Villa, Love Island USA continues to steam ahead toward its dramatic finale. Ariana Madix, fresh off her triumphant hosting return, is still guiding the action, and the couples currently left standing include: Chelley and Ace Huda and Chris Olandria and Nic Amaya and Bryan Iris and Pepe The finale is expected to air next week on Peacock, with fans still reeling from the emotional fallout. In closing, Ortega made it clear she doesn't expect instant redemption. Instead, she's hoping for time and space to prove her growth. 'Hopefully… instead of sitting here and trying to convince you that I am this amazing person who spreads light in the world and celebrates cultures and dynamics and backgrounds, then one day you can see that from me,' she said. 'I'm deeply sorry again, and I thank anyone who's listening.' Whether that day comes is now in the hands of the public and time. Love Island USA Season 7 is currently streaming on Peacock.
