The proposal for MML was made by a committee formed in January under the Devendra Fadnavis-led government, headed by then additional chief secretary Valsa Nair. The committee submitted its report in April, and the cabinet cleared it on June 10.
According to the order, MML made from grains will be priced at Rs 148 for 180 ml and have an alcohol strength of 42.8 per cent by volume.
Live Events
The aim is to bridge the price gap between country liquor and IMFL, the order stated.
The brand cannot be manufactured in any other state or under other liquor categories, such as country liquor, IML, beer or wine. PLL licensees producing MML must have their head office in Maharashtra.
Of the 70 PLL units in the state, 22 are defunct and 16 operate only as retailers, while the remaining 32 manufacture liquor, with 10 of them producing 70 per cent of the
IMFL in Maharashtra
.
This is not the first attempt to promote grain-based liquor in the state. In 2007, the Congress-NCP government had launched a scheme to set up grain-based distilleries, but it was scrapped following objections from activists and a stay by the Bombay High Court in 2010.

‘Time for Indian tech companies to focus on country's needs': PM Modi in Bengaluru
'Indian tech companies have made a mark globally, developing software and products for the entire world. It is now time to prioritise India's own needs more strongly and must accelerate the development of new products, especially as software and apps are now being used across every domain,' PM Modi said after inaugurating critical mobility infrastructure projects in Bengaluru. On Sunday, Modi inaugurated the 19.16 km Yellow Line of Bengaluru metro worth around Rs 7,160 crore, thus expanding the city's metro network to 96 km. He also laid the foundation stone of the Bengaluru Metro Phase-3 project worth over Rs 15,610 crore and flagged off three Vande Bharat Express trains at KSR railway station, Bengaluru. Vande Bharat trains were launched between Bengaluru and Belagavi, Nagpur and Pune, and Shri Mata Vaishno Devi Katra and Amritsar. Modi also undertook a metro ride on the newly inaugurated metro line from Ragigudda metro station to Electronic City station. Addressing the gathering at the International Institute of Information Technology Bangalore, Modi stated that it is essential for India to reach new heights in emerging fields. Calling for focused efforts to lead in emerging fields, the prime minister stressed the need to strengthen Bengaluru and Karnataka's presence in 'Make in India' and the manufacturing sector. He urged that India's products must adhere to the 'Zero Defect, Zero Effect' standard, meaning they should be flawless in quality and have no negative impact on the environment. Stressing India's economic strides, PM Modi said, 'India is currently the fastest-growing major economy in the world. In the past 11 years, India's economy has risen from the 10th position to the top five globally, and is rapidly progressing toward becoming one of the top three economies.' He attributed this momentum to the spirit of 'Reform, Perform and Transform,' driven by clear intent and honest efforts. Modi also highlighted that before 2014, India's total exports had reached only $468 billion, whereas today, that figure has risen to $824 billion. He also remarked that earlier, India used to import mobile phones, but now, the country is among the top five exporters of mobile handsets. He noted that Bengaluru has played a significant role in this transformation and that India's electronics exports have now increased to nearly $38 billion from $6 billion in 2014. He also highlighted that 11 years ago, India's automobile exports stood at approximately $16 billion, and that figure has more than doubled, making India the fourth-largest automobile exporter globally. Acknowledging the contribution of the youth of Bengaluru and Karnataka in Operation Sindoor, Modi highlighted the success of Indian forces in the operation, noting their capability to destroy terrorist hideouts deep across the border. He attributed the success of Operation Sindoor to the power of technology and the strength of 'Make in India' in the defence sector.

Gold rate outlook: Gold may extend rally amid macroeconomic uncertainty; analysts flag tariffs, central bank buying as key drivers
Gold prices are poised to extend gains in the coming week as macroeconomic uncertainty, trade tensions and central bank buying continue to fuel investor demand, analysts said. Traders will track a string of key economic data releases, including GDP figures from the UK and EU, and US Core PPI and Core CPI data. Tired of too many ads? go ad free now Speeches from US Federal Reserve officials will also be closely watched for clues on the near-term trajectory of gold prices, PTI reported. Prathamesh Mallya, DVP – Research, Non-Agri Commodities and Currencies at Angel One, said gold is making fresh highs in both domestic and international futures markets. 'From the lows of Rs 98,079 per 10 grams on July 28, to the highs of Rs 1,02,250 per 10 grams, the shine in gold prices continues to increase the wealth of gold investors. In the international markets, prices have surged from $3,268 per ounce on July 30 to $3,534.10 per ounce as of August 8. The rally seems unstoppable,' he said. Last week, the most traded October gold futures climbed Rs 1,763, or 1.77 per cent, on the Multi Commodity Exchange (MCX). Mallya attributed part of the surge to heightened tariff tensions. 'If it escalates further, gold might rally towards the $3,800 per ounce mark internationally, while MCX futures could head to Rs 1,10,000 per 10 grams over the next three months,' he said. He added, 'Tariffs, tariffs, tariffs — it goes round and unending. In order to reshape global trade in America's favour, the US has started imposing higher tariffs on goods from dozens of trading partners, and India has found itself in the crosshairs of US President Donald Trump as he announced doubling tariffs on India to 50 per cent over its move to purchase oil from Russia. This macro uncertainty has led investors globally to realign their portfolios, increasing allocations to gold. Tired of too many ads? go ad free now ' Jateen Trivedi, VP Research Analyst – Commodity and Currency at LKP Securities, said the near-term bias for gold remains positive as long as it holds above Rs 99,000 per 10 grams. 'While the dollar's strength last week capped upside in gold, domestic prices are cushioned by rupee weakness, which is likely to keep the downside limited. Volatility is expected to persist, with a broader trading range of $3,360–3,425 on Comex and Rs 98,500–1,03,000 per 10 grams on the MCX,' he noted, quoted PTI. NS Ramaswamy, Head of Commodity & CRM at Ventura Securities, said weaker-than-expected US economic data has intensified speculation about a Federal Reserve rate cut. On Friday, Comex gold futures for December delivery touched an all-time high of $3,534.10 per ounce before settling at $3,491.30. 'With both US growth and inflation worsening after last week's soft jobs report, gold remains at record levels. Central banks are buying, global trade wars are ongoing, geopolitical risks are elevated, and ETF holdings continue to expand. The Fed cutting interest rates could be the missing catalyst to reignite a record-breaking rally,' he said. Ramaswamy also pointed to fresh triggers, including the US imposing import tariffs on one-kilo and 100-ounce gold bars, raising supply concerns, and fears about the Federal Reserve's independence, both of which are boosting investor demand. 'Looking ahead, investors believe central banks will continue to add gold to their reserves given the still-uncertain economic environment and the drive to diversify away from the US Dollar,' he added. Analysts said unless macroeconomic conditions reverse sharply, the mix of geopolitical uncertainty, trade tensions, currency fluctuations and central bank demand is likely to keep gold on an upward trajectory in the medium term.
