Four people injured including child after two serious collisions in Rochdale as man arrested

Four people have been injured after collisions with a car at two major roads in Rochdale. Officers were called at around 2.30pm on Saturday, May 3, following reports of collisions involving one car and multiple pedestrians on Woodgate Avenue and Whitworth Road.
On Woodgate Avenue, three people were injured, including a child. All suffered minor injuries, none of which are life-threatening or life-changing, and were taken to hospital for treatment, Greater Manchester Police said.
On Whitworth Road, one woman was injured and airlifted to hospital with potentially life-threatening injuries.

The male driver, a 49-year-old man, was arrested on suspicion of assault and attempted murder. He has since been detained in hospital.
A scene remains in place while emergency services personnel conduct their enquiries. This incident is not being treated as terrorism related, the fore confirmed.
Images from the scene show a large cordon around St Mary's Gate near to Whitworth Road. There remains heavy traffic in the area. Bury Road remains closed as officers conduct their enquiries.
Assistant Chief Constable John Webster said: "We are deeply saddened by the tragic events that occurred in Rochdale today. Our officers are supporting the victims and their families at this time.
'We believe this to be an isolated incident with one lone offender arrested and in hospital.
'Additional resources will remain deployed to the local area, please speak to officers if you have any concerns.
'We are working tirelessly to investigate the incident and ensure the safety of our community.
'We urge anyone with information to come forward and assist us in our efforts. We will provide updates as more details become available."

Mother of Salford teenager killed in motorbike crash pays tribute to son

The mother of a teenager who died in a motorbike crash in Salford has paid tribute to her "lovable" son and thanked the community for its overwhelming support. Kailem Robinson, 16, died alongside 17-year-old Kaine Darby after their motorbike was involved in a collision with a car on Lower Broughton Road at around 8.20pm on Wednesday, May 22. In a tribute released through Greater Manchester Police, Kailem's mum Jill described her son as a caring and popular boy who had a 'cheeky smile and infectious laugh'. She said: 'Kailem was someone who was always polite; he was popular with everyone and would do anything to help people out. READ MORE: 'He was known as the class clown in school, always making everyone laugh. He always had a passion for bikes from a young age and would help other kids on the street fix theirs. 'He was very lovable with me, always telling me he loved me.' She said Kailem's death had 'shocked the community' and thanked residents of Lower Broughton for rallying around her family with flowers, donations and a GoFundMe page set up to help with funeral costs. 'Kailem's friends have been amazing, bringing shopping round and just being here trying to comfort me and give me some normality,' she said. 'Kailem will be missed by everyone – the reaction from the community has shown how loved he was by everyone who knew him. 'My life will never be the same again. He was my baby. I miss you, son.' Both families are being supported by specialist officers as the investigation into the crash continues. The 24-year-old woman who was driving the car remained at the scene and is assisting police with their enquiries. No arrests have been made. Specialist collision investigators are continuing to appeal for information. Police have arrested two men after a digger was stolen from a building site. The theft was reported last Sunday, June 1, when the vehicle was found to be missing from the building site on Lower Bridgeman Street in Bolton. Officers said that they they believe a white flatbed truck was used to take the yellow 1.6 JCB Excavator Digger away. They said that two men have been arrested on suspicion of theft, but have since been bailed while police investigate the incident further. Police are now appealing to the public for information about the incident. They have asked for anyone who may have seen anything suspicious on Lower Bridgeman Street at around 12.30pm to get in touch with them.
