A 13-year-old girl in Odisha, with two male friends, killed her adoptive mother, Rajalaxmi Kar, over relationship objections and property. They were caught via Instagram messages.
In a bone chilling incident, a 13-year-old girl killed her adoptive mother with the help of her two aides. The girl, a Class 8 student, was adopted by the victim when she was found abandoned on the roadside in Odisha at the age of three.
According to media reports, the deceased has been identified as Rajalaxmi Kar (54).
Reports citing police mentioned that the teen, along with her two male friends, allegedly conspired to kill the woman at their rented residence in Paralakhemundi town in Gajapati district on April 29.
Police believe the motive behind the killing of Rajalaxmi was her opposition to her teen's relationship with the two young men and the desire to gain control over her property.
It is learnt that the accused allegedly drugged Rajalaxmi with sleeping pills before smothering her with pillows. The woman was then shifted to a hospital where she was declared dead. The following day, she was cremated in Bhubaneswar in the presence of her relatives, who were informed that she had suffered a fatal heart attack.
The exact matter related to the killing came to light after Rajalaxmi's brother, Siba Prasad Mishra, found the girl's mobile phone, which had been left behind in Bhubaneswar.
Following the examination of the device, it was revealed that the girl had laid out the murder plan in detail in Instagram conversations. The chats included specific references to killing Rajalaxmi and taking possession of her gold ornaments and cash.
Thereafter, Mishra lodged a police complaint in this regard on May 14 which subsequently led to the arrest of the three accused, the teenage girl, temple priest Ganesh Rath (21), and his friend Dinesh Sahu (20), both from the same town.
The report citing Gajapati Superintendent of Police (SP) Jatindra Kumar Panda, reported that Rajalaxmi and her husband had found the infant on a roadside in Bhubaneswar nearly a decade ago. The couple, who were childless, adopted the baby and raised her as their own.
Rajalaxmi's husband passed away just a year later. Since then, she raised the girl as a single mother. Several years ago, she relocated to Paralakhemundi so that her daughter could study at Kendriya Vidyalaya, enrolling her there and renting a house in town.
The report claimed that later the girl allegedly entered into a relationship with Rath and Sahu. Rajalaxmi reportedly objected to the relationship, which triggered tensions between them.
The NDTV report citing police mentioned that Rath allegedly instigated the teen to carry out the murder. It is suspected that Rath convinced her that by eliminating her mother, they could continue their relationship and gain access to her property.
On the evening of April 29, the girl allegedly gave sleeping pills to the victim. Once Rajalaxmi lost consciousness, she called both the men. The trio then allegedly smothered Rajalaxmi with pillows. Notably, Rajalaxmi had a prior heart condition, so the claim was not questioned.
Further, police seized about 30 grams of gold jewellery from the accused, along with three mobile phones and two pillows allegedly used in the murder.
